I think another theme in Book 8 is the gods behaving worse than mortals. Because of how harshly strict Zeus is in the beginning, although he does show some compassion with Athena and by sending the eagle. Also Hera trying to get Poseidon to violate the will of Zeus; she's fighting against fate like Diomedes but not so nobly
Excellent chapter review as always. I remember when I first read The Iliad that I got kinda mad that Zeus starts heavily interfering at this point, and basically makes it impossible for the Greeks to win, esp by forbidding the other Gods and Goddesses from helping; because of Achilles lust for glory(which will come back to bite him in the end). The Ajax the Great and Teucer tag team is great, and so is the Diomedes and Nestor tag team. Diomedes really gets the short end of the stick in this book though; every time he tries to attack Hector Zeus throws a lightning bolt near him; and Hector even starts acting like his brother Paris for a moment and actually mocks and taunts Diomedes for running from Zeus' wrath(and assuming he's running from Hector himself even though he could prob see the lightning bolt explosions egging on Diomedes chariot). Hector, in this chapter and in the next few, loses a bunch of points with me; not enough that I dislike him like I dislike Paris but still he didn't behave very nobly let alone as a hero in these chapters. Anyway great video! I look forward to your book 9 discussion and summary!
