Hi and Greetings from Paris ! I have a defender TD5 year 2003. If I up-shift quickly with high RPM from 1st to 2d, or 2d to 3d, I feel a crunch/grind in my hand (not so loud to hear it in the vehicle, I can just feel it with my hand). If I leave the RPM/rev normal, and leave a 1 second pause on Neutral between these gears, all is fine. No crunch when downshifting. The gearbox runs with new MTF94 oil. Is this a normal behavior for a R380 ? Are we supposed to UP shift slowly with these gearboxes, losing momentum ? Losing momentum is not an issue on flat road, but annoying climbing a slope. Many thanks for your help and feedback ! Julien
thank you. yes it is the 300tdi, the pipes look o.k. i have bought a new up lift pump and fuel filter i am going to try changing them, but i think i am clutching at straws.
how do? my 1996 discovery has been failing to start at petrol station etc. i open the fuel filter and turn it over and it usually fires up after swearing crying and so on. today it cut out whilst i was driving along? i had done about 2 miles fron home and the bugger would not start again. 10 mins later it started and got me home. any ideas man.
Ever since some enthusiastic wading I have a weird high pitched osilating noise coming from my r380 gearbox, I had wading plugs in but when I took my bell housing one out also water came out.. Going to change my oil tomorrow... But suspect some kind if bearing issues in box.. Are there any main culprits/tests I can do? Cheers G
+godzillaisnuclea123 was wondering about this as the noise went away but can't remember what exactly it was.. nothing major.. think it was water related gearbox seems pretty crunchy these days so maybe on its way out..
Excellent! Far less muddled than other You Tube descriptions. Thank you!
