      Hey,
      Yes, that would make sense as they are closely related, with the difference being the click bar used in each switch. Excellent choice of board! Though, I've heard that lubing clicking switches may get rid of or ruin the click, something to be mindful of! Lubing stabs is a definite go though!

  • @anhhuythethird9469
    @anhhuythethird9469 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    Hi quick question. I have a lot of linear key switch keyboards and wanted to get a ducky one 2 mini with box whites but I'm afraid they may be too heavy of a switch. Would you say they would be too heavy for someone who only uses linear switches? Thanks @ChanningNatum

    • @ohpinyanated1692
      @ohpinyanated1692  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Logan,
      Thanks for the question! It would depend on which linear switches you currently use. Switches like the Cherry/Gateron Reds and Silvers are very light relative to other switches. If you feel that anything even slightly heavier is too much, then the BOX whites may be too much for you. If you're using Gateron Yellows or even Cherry/Gateron Blacks, then you'll be totally fine as the BOX whites are the lightest of the BOX family of switches.
      I regularly rotate between Gateron Yellows and Kailh BOX Whites and don't notice any finger fatigue.
      Hope that helps! Let me know if you have any other questions!
      -Nate

    • @ohpinyanated1692
      @ohpinyanated1692  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ah, no, this board is not hotswappable. Only the Special Edition Year of the Rat Ducky One 2 Mini is hotswappable. It's a special release board that comes with a special green/grey/black colour scheme. Every other board produced in 2020 was supposed to ship with the Year of the Rat spacebar but is unrelated to the aforementioned special model.

    thank you for this video :) I'm looking to get this keyboard with either Kailh Box White or Brown switches, I'm just worried about the White switches being too loud; do you think these white switches are loud enough to be heard from the room next door ??

    • @ohpinyanated1692
      @ohpinyanated1692  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Glad you enjoyed it! If the entire house is quiet and you type fairly loudly, they may be audible. Though in my opinion, I think they are quieter than the Cherry MX Blues and other similar switches. Also depending on how you type, the click is less "audible" than it is "tactile".
      In your position, I would choose the BOX White's over the Brown's, it's a much more satisfying switch.

      I believe Ducky ships them out in waves, so for the last few months, all the North American retailers have been getting the dark blue keycaps. It seems like ~a year ago, it was light red, and before that, light blue. I've only seen the dark blue caps with this particular spacebar.

    Do the Kailh BOX Whites have a tactile bump and are they very loud or an ok volume? I'm buying my first mechanical keyboard and am still learning about the switches. Also how is the keyboard holding up?

    • @ohpinyanated1692
      @ohpinyanated1692  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hey Thomas,
      Welcome to the rabbit hole that is the mechanical keyboard hobby!
      Yes, the BOX White's do have a tactile bump, similar to other clicky switches, as the resistance of the tactile surface is what causes the "click". Unique to Kailh's clicky BOX switches (White, Jade, Navy), is that they use a "clickbar" resulting in 2 audible clicks, one on the downstroke and the other on the returning upstroke. I think the volume is fine as other clicky switches tend to be louder, though sound can be very subjective. If you're sitting next to someone, they may become annoyed.
      The keyboard is holding up pretty well though I have noticed occasional key chatter in the "i" key. I believe this is an isolated issue as I haven't heard of other owners experiencing the same. Otherwise, I find myself enjoying the board more and more, favouring it over my linear (non-clicky) boards.
      Hope that helps and let me know what board you end up getting!

    Since you're in accounting, you don't find that you need the numpad on your keyboard?

    • @ohpinyanated1692
      @ohpinyanated1692  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      IMO, the numpad isn't necessary, but having it can greatly boost speed. I prefer the compact aesthetic of smaller keyboards and forced myself to get by with the upper row for number entry. Instead, I think the arrow cluster is necessary as it is essential when navigating Excel. Are you in a similar field? What are your thoughts?

    • @van2810
      @van2810 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ohpinyanated1692 I am actually in a similar situation. I am an accountant as well, and recently switched to a TKL keyboard. I find that I can get by without the numpad. But if I had more data entry heavy responsibilities like Accounts Payable then I probably would not be able to get away without a numpad. Hopefully, I will never need a numpad again because smaller keyboards are so much better

      @ohpinyanated1692  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Kailh Box White's are a clicky switch so they're the noisiest type of mechanical switch, but I think my mic made them sound louder than they are. If you're using them somewhere with speakers playing audio, or a noisier house, they aren't that noticeable.
      Also, compared to other clicky switches like Cherry Blue's, Razer Green's, and Kailh THICC boiis (Jade and Navy), the White's are much quieter :) If you want the quietest switches, stick to Silent switches (cost more), or soft tactiles like Cherry Brown's and Gateron Oranges.
