      For a power swing the right index and thumb must be off the grip and let go the club head. these are comnomn sense for use centrifugal!

      Yeah, I was studying his grip to see what type he used and I noticed those 2 finger, the thumb in the pointer finger sticking out he probably does that just to keep a lighter grip on the right hand keeps a firmer grip on the left

    This swing is incredibly unique in so many ways. What I notice from the slow mo is how relaxed his hands are on the club even through impact - his thumb and forefinger aren't even on the club in some of the shots! There used to be another Boom Boom video with classical music behind it and I'd watch that before playing which helped me focus on rhythm and it really helped

    7:33 There's daylight between his right pinky and left hand just before impact!! And at impact his index and maybe one other finger or not touching... just wow, how light is his grip pressure?!? His swing is just magical and this may be part of why. And at 63, his driver ball speed is 15 mph faster than anything I can muster.

    • @rlevitta
      @rlevitta 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Agree 100% - but...slowmo is good for checking out that right elbow move. It looks like it's flying out on the backswing, but then he drops it straight down along with his hands to keep his right arm inside the left arm. It's not an easy move to make. I've tried. He's got lots of lag in that swing. That's where his mysterious power comes from.

    • @golfshoe9321
      @golfshoe9321 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@rlevitta That visible uncoiling and separation of the lower body from the upper just before the club reaches the top of the backswing is the holy grail in golf. I think this is the source of his power (X-Factor as Jim M. says). That very still head is hard to achieve as well...most amateur head are moving up and away from the ball.

    I just recently discovered Fred Couples being playing golf for over a year now and this swing really shatters all the nonsense out there. Not only is he a single plane swing, as I noticed almost all older players are, he is also incredibly steep. With the driver there is absolutely no shallowing of the club and with irons only slightly. Its quite insane how he manages to get into impact position. Just goes to show how you gotta adjust your swing to your body, your rhythm and keep the basic principles of the swing.

      Yes, and interesting that many views show that, with woods, he is only holding the club with the fingers of his right hand at the top, his right palm is not in contact. I have learnt to do this as my right wrist is inflexible and will not bend back. I wonder if Fred had a wrist injury in childhood.

    I spent my early and late teens trying to model my swing off Fred's. The best thing it did for me... Tempo.

    Been hitting golf balls for two years and all I want is a swing like thisn

    Love it. Not what you would be told by most golf instructors. Super strong grip, open stance, straightens the right leg in the back swing and pushes up from the ground with his left and straightens into impact. So smooth.

    How does Fred hit fades with such a strong grip and that release?
