Do you have anyone in your household or frequent guests that in their 40's or older that wear glasses? If so, you will want to mount the TV so that the bottom 1/3rd or the bottom edge of the TV is at eye level. Why? Because they are likely wearing bifocals or progressive lenses. Only the top half of their glasses are good for distance viewing. The higher the TV is mounted the more comfortably it can be viewed through those glasses in a reclined sitting position. Mount the TV too low it will fall in the reading/short distance part of the lens and become blurry and viewer will have to constantly tilt their head forward Mounting the TV over the fireplace actually works quite well for these people as they can set way back in a recliner and the TV will appear in the distance portion of the lens.
Normal local (European) standard is "eyes of news reader (1/3rd from the top)" is level with the height of the eyes of the viewer. So even lower than your suggestion. In that case, you watch the people on tv in their eyes without tilting your head up or down.
BTW if you have dry eye issues having a monitor or TV too high tends to force you to keep your eyes wider open than they need to be and can make it worse. Sounds made but it's true, keep your head stationary and try looking forward and down/up and pay attention to to how much your eyelids are working to expose more eyeball.
While you have your personal TV at the right height you are most definitely sitting too far away from it. The best viewing distance formula is: measure the size of your screen diagonally and divide that size by .84. so a 60-inch HDTV's require a recommended 1.8m to 2.7m viewing distance. Most people are like you and sit very far away.
Also depends how far you sit from the tv and if your laying or sitting on the sofa. You can put your tv high if you are far away or laying the most time to watch tv.

It's also why when you start to get over 85'' it's recommended you just use a projector and a screen since your screen can just go down to the floor. Or put the TV on the floor and tilt it up lol. Seems legit😂
@@TechSpank Only if you sit straight up, but if you lean back in a comfy sofa then your "straight" line is aiming up, not horizontally. Especially at 10-15 ft. Verify comfortable to me .
@@TechSpank FYI: There are specialized over-the-fireplace mounts that bring the TV back to eye level. (for ex. 'mantlemount') I'd use if I were to mount over the fireplace, I agree with you it would be too high without such a mount.
0:34 start.
The video is only 1:40... cut me a little slack... LOL
No clarity in delivery of talk
In an ironic twist, I don't get what that comment means.
Wow very scientific And useless
James, answer the question. No need to slam the above fireplace location as"stupid." Not to be too judgmental, but your video is pretty bad. Two thumbs down!
R2 huh?
He's calling you stupid.
Ah we found a stupid one.... I hope you learned in these 2 years 😉

Yah, your video is bad, there’s nothing wrong with having a nice sleek tv mounted over a nice modern fireplace with an electric fireplace beneath it. I think you’re living in the dark ages. 3 thumbs down 👎 👎👎
I'd prefer the aesthetic of the living room to look nice rather than trying to appeal to some ideal viewing experience typically reserved for theater rooms. "Low mounted" TVs in many living rooms look rather silly especially when you have high ceilings.
No, you!
Oof
Agree.
Absolute worst “how-to” video I’ve ever seen. Let me bring my couch in my new construction house to figure out viewing angles for all the blocking and wiring I need to run, oh, should I bring my bed too?? I need to hang a tv in my bedroom also...
So you wanted a number? Anyone who says "just mount it X inches off the floor" is making stuff up - each situation is different. But if you're building a new house hopefully you figured that out already...
You're not that bright. Measure your couch, take the measurement to your house, done.
