Technically this isn't the first time Goku has overlapped Kaioken. In the non cannon Otherworld tournament arc. Goku used Kaioken while as a Super Sayian in his fight with Pikkon.
For a grand total of three seconds.

Edit: He never specified a multiplier so most assumed it was just the normal multiplier of x2 which is what SSJ2 essentially is according to the manga.

I think the difference between Goku and Vegeta’s strengths is that Goku has the mindset of a martial artist, while Vegeta has the mindset of a brawler. Vegeta has been trying to copy Goku’s path to power but it just doesn’t really work because of their different mindsets. Later on in the manga he ends up realizing this and starts leaning fully into his Saiyan instincts while Goku has to learn to mix his Saiyan instincts with his martial artist instincts.
So Goku tends to be ahead because of his mindset and the masters who taught him he actually has a good amount of advantages over Vegeta. In the manga we find out when Vegeta gets the same treatment he can keep up with Goku easily. Also in the manga they explain why Vegeta in blue couldn’t keep up with Hit like Goku could.
The reason why Goku seemed to always gets a one up on Vegeta before the recent chapters of dragon ball is because Goku despite his seemingly idiotic behavior actually trained smarter than Vegeta, take the cell games for example Vegeta didn't think to master super Saiyan all he did was supercharge Super Saiyan which gave him Super Vegeta or Super Saiyan grade 2, while Goku saw the flaw in that with the more bulky body and preferred to control Super Saiyan which allowed him to use it effectively without losing so much ki.
So in other words:
Vegeta: "More power, more strong"
Goku: "Master Power, fight stronger"

@@courve That was without their transformations so they couldn't go all out, and also, at that point, Vegeta had started training like Goku does, just goes to show that Goku's method is superior considering Vegeta's base is canonically stronger than Goku's after he started training like that.

In my first Dragon Ball fan fiction, I had my oc do the same thing. But as a Super Saiyan 3. He mastered both Super Saiyan 3 and Kaioken without it's drawbacks. But he can't go higher than times 10.
Basically Goku is always ahead of vegeta due to his mindset and teachings from his masters. Not to mention he has more fighting experience. Goku has always been tested whereas vegeta never was and the only time he was is when he first fought goku.
Basically goku has intelligence, experience, and better outlook on fighting than vegeta does. In the manga of super, vegeta is stated to be more of a prodigy than goku is
The reason Goku is stronger then Vegeta, is mostly explained because even though Vegeta Trains harder, Goku trains smarter. This is explicitly shown during the cell saga, where Vegeta trains and creates SSJ grade 2 (Super Vegeta), While Goku focuses on Mastering SSJ leading to him being stronger since SSJ no longer takes up energy/stamina. There is some other factors but at this point in the show this is the main reason

Well to answer that Goku actually trains somewhat smarter than vegeta the best example of that is the cell saga

Its nature talent, vegeta most likely trains harder than anyone but Goku' natural talent and talent and latent potential far exceeds vegeta. When it comes to fighting he is combat genius.
I wouldn't say natural talent or latent potential. In terms of Saiyan class alone, Vegeta should be stronger than Goku as Goku is a low class Saiyan, but Goku has had many masters throughout his lifetime and is more flexible and adaptable when it comes to fighting than Vegeta is. If anything Vegeta has more talent than Goku and does train hard, but Goku trains smarter, is more adaptable and has more experience.
I'm honestly surprised Sean Schemmel's vocal chords survived this episodes. Those screams sounded painful lmao.

What makes Goku diferente is that he was raised by a Martial artist Gohan then Rosi then kami and popo then king Kai so Goku since his childhood kept training he as a Keen eye for fighting something Vegeta never had he was thrown into weak planets to conquer as he grew he got stronger on his own without any master guidance
That creates a huge gap between the two
To me, Goku is just more Durable . He doesnt quit unless his limbs are broken or he cant move anymore from using all his energy . Where as Vegeta just takes damage enough to where if it'll knock him out, he's done . Goku just always gets back up .

Goku has the power of main character a** pulls. Blocking before hit time skips is ridiculous.. all hit would have to do is LOOK where Goku is blocking and hit him somewhere else during his time skip. He also a** pulls extra stamina just because... just wait for the tournament of power. Goku drains himself down to base SEVERAL times yet can somehow still go UI just from getting a little power from Vegeta... the same Vegeta that couldnt even turn Super saiyam after draining down to base only TWICE. Its just inconsistent a** pull MC treatment.

Realistically, the fact that Toriyama hated Vegeta. He said so in an interview. But Vegeta became fan favourite, so he stuck around.
In-universe, it's a bit weirder. Considering Goku never really won a fight against Vegeta.
- Krillin and Gohan managed to get a drop on Vegeta in the first fight after Goku lost.
- They stopped their fight in the Buu saga.
Could you imagine if Toriyama stuck to his own script and wasn't pressured by the fans? Vegeta would've died at the Saiyan/Frieza arc, Gohan would've been the main character after the Cell Saga and Goku would've stayed dead after the Cell Saga. Crazy.

Something I notice when I watch early DBS is that while the animation was fucking jank at some points, the voice acting was actually *better.* Sean Schemmel went way harder in the like, first half of DBS. I don't think even his screams as UI Goku are as intense as his screams in this episode, not by a long shot.
