let me save ya'll 15 minutes:
1. get to your throttle body where you can expose and see it, removing intake ducting
as necessary
2. turn key to on (but don't start engine)
3. put a weight on gas pedal to open up throttle if drive by wire
4. use throttle body cleaner and a rag
5. reassemble

I recently just had my VR6 rebuilt and I’ve noticed ever sense the rebuild the car would stall especially at stop signs and traffic lights, I popped the hood and I did a visual inspection and I don’t see any broken vacuum lines or anything like that.
I do remember cleaning the maf sensor out last year but I don’t think it could’ve gotten dirty this quick especially at the throttle body. What else do you think I could be?

@@getactivewithlou3386same! Mine says Reinstall intake, and once it shuts off while at a stop a warning light comes on (low oil pressure sensor) and car still stalls. I already changed the oil pressure sensor, mass flow sensor, canister purge valve. It also stalled while driving just going up a small uphill. WTH!

That car has idler sensor that goes bad you might have to change that try this spray some cleaner inside the hole I will see small port inside

I'm really glad that I found your video, I have a Honda pilot VP 2008, about 1 1\2 weeks ago I was at a Red light, as the light turned green I began to accelerate and noticed the vehicle began to stall. I checked the engine oil it was good. I then check the transmission fluid it was above the second Dot. I still couldn't figure out why it was stalling, I have to say TH-cam is great I'm so glad that I found your video I am 5 minutes away from AutoZone where I will go purchase the throttle cleaner spray.
Yeah defiantly do the cleaning in about 30-40k miles these do get lot of build up

Great instructional video brother , specially some throttle bodies have a special clear coat idk if its what is called but if you use any other product besides throttle body cleaner it may damage that special coat like brake cleaner , thanks to your videos i replaced serpentine belt , spark plugs , pcv valve and learned and to change brakes on my 03 Camry .. So thrilled I found this video!! I’m going to try this on my 2012 Honda accord V6
Didn’t know what was going on but the 1201 code came up for the TAC so hope cleaning fixes this issue. My battery drained too..
Code was actually P2101
I have video on accord as well but 4 cylinder after cleaning u might get higher rpm than expected code then u need to build the idle speed all over it’s common on hondas

I watched your video l liked the way you explained everything and I subcribed.
Followed the steps on my 77 280Z. Idle was inconsistent and would stall at stops when cold.
The cleaning helped return the idle to 900 rpms as before. Will check the stalling issues.

WOAH, I didn't expect you to message me cool,,,, I have a 2010 nissan exterra, i bought it for my daughter new ..now I drive it it's got 253,000 miles but still runs great except for this stalling at stops
@@mrgallagher7072 ok cool just to let u know Nissans act up after throttle cleaning u might have check engine light after u clean it cuz it will breath better RPM with be little higher but it will resettle at few drive cycles
My 1998 would die at stop lights and stop sighns and did this procedure and did not work, was pretty clean. So next I changed the idle control valve and it helped, not dieing anymore but it just idles up and down when stop somewhere. Can you help me , this is why I subscribed because it looks like you work on alot of Honda's

My 04 Civic, 1.7 non-vortec (200k), was hesitating/surging while cruising and dying at intersections. I removed the EGR valve. There were carbon chunks stuck in the valve of the EGR, holding it open. I used a boar brush and vacuum to clean out the EGR passage. And, wallah!

@@RBTheMechanic I have a 2005 Altima 2.5l engine S. Tried the on ignition position with key 🔑 without starting the engine and pressed the gas pedal and it didn’t opened or made any whining sound.
@@BlakewrtvKitchen well some cars would do that anyways if u want to clean u can use qtip and slightly clean it and then spray some on the Edge of plate and let the engine to the magic it will but it off

The throttle body was cleaned by Toyota in March 2020, no problem with idle when I left Dealer. In June 2020 I cleaned the MAF. No problem with idle speed. In Sept 2020 I replaced the battery. No problem with idle speed. I installed new plugs in April 2020 and that increased the idle for less than a day. I think it was in December 2020 that when started cold it would stall if put into reverse without a warmup but rarely.
On another occasion with the engine warm, parked for a few minutes, then when started and put in drive, stalled 3 times in a row. The near stalling at red lights in gear is the most common problem when the engine is warm. Sorry it’s so long. The engine speed drops down to 500 rpm when warm and in gear.
Ok try cleaning throttle I double it dealer did good job and I think it should be better trust me they r screw UPs please try cleaning first
quick questio ... kia rio 2012.. stalling at red lights or when going very slowly. No error codes either. Engine does not do a suffocating sound. It just stops. Do you think it could be the throttle or the injectors?

Liked. Hey man thanks. I was trying to figure out way my car wasnt starting, fuel pump, relay and other reason. I took off my throttle hose to spray starter into it to see if I had spark. It was left off for a while until I figured out what it was. It was the Fule pump relay. The car started up fine . But now, shuts off when I take it put of park or I try to drive. I can get it to drive but I have to baby the peddle and once she going shes fine until I come to a stop, or try to take off from one. Would it be stalling for this reason above. Would leaving the hose off of the throtle body make it not want to run. Prior to my relay goin out , It ran great.
Seems like if you clean the throttle it will fix the issue give it a shot. Let me know how it went. Good job with the relay find

I have a 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited V8. The dealership has no idea what it is. Everytime I stay at a stop sign or red light or in traffic it stalls and I have to start it up again. The RPM like you explained also goes up and down and it eventually will stall if I don't give it gas. Could this be the issue? The replaced the crank sensor but that was not the problem. #Subscribed

Guys replace or clean MAF sensor also...only use MA F sensor cleaner ..don't touch the tip and spray lightly then buy a new one..replaced the throttle body but the tiniest bit of carbon on the MAF will not let the ECM relearn...

I see the air raid system on this car. I had a K&N system on my 2004 Silverado 5.3 truck and it kept trashing my EGR valve thats located inside the valve cover because of the oil you’re supposed to coat the air filter with. Went back to factory equipment and haven’t had a problem since.

I clean my throttle body yesterday with carb cleaner from Walmart, it ran good for a day then it stalled on a hill and wouldn't start back up, I waited 2 hours for a tow truck to come get me off the road, so now I'm back to square one trying to figure out why my car don't run right 😱 I recently replaced the spark plugs, wires, ignition coil, so now the only thing I can think is maybe a fuel filter, I pray it's not the fuel pump 🙏 I wish I would have taken mechanic school as a kid, mechanic skills are worth as much as gold in my opinion

Yes... To me it seemed like it wasn't getting fuel, but I'm not a mechanic in any way, lately I've been learning to do stuff on my own because mechanic shops in my area have a 1 to 2 week waiting list and are way over priced, there are so many things that could be wrong, I just don't know where to start looking
@@TRANSPORTKING1988 ok I think best test would be to spray some starter fluid in to the engine and determin if it starts up that will lead to at least know it’s fuel related That’s what it seems like

Do you spray the starting fluid directly into the throttle body? I know it's extremely flammable, so I'll do one squirt at a time... I know in semi trucks we used to spray ether in the Air canister to start them up, I've been watching videos on how to change a fuel filter and that's no easy task either, my vehicle is a Mercury Mountaineer 5.0 engine.... I've owned it for years and never had any problems now all of a sudden I'm getting a boat load of issues

I have an Infiniti I30 and ever since I bought the car I randomly stall at red light, slow turns, parking, or while idling. Sometimes it runs good but sometimes it just stalls. Just cleaned the throttle body and the problem didn't come back until 2 weeks. After 2 weeks, it started stalling again. When I'm parking, Rpm drops so low between 200 to 400 and sometimes stalls. When I start it right back up, rpm drops so low so I have to press the gas to make the rpm jump until it can maintain an idle without stalling. I took it to the shop awhile ago and the mechanic said its perfectly fine. He test drove the car and it was so smooth and showed no problem. Everytime I get it into a shop, the car magically runs perfectly fine and smooth showing no signs of problem. On the way home awhile ago, I stalled 5 times while parking again. It's insane. Tomorrow I'm taking it to the mechanic to get the throttle body cleaned again. Hoping the throttle body cleaning tomorrow solves it once and for all.
Mat Ivan Arquero you might have bad throttle body try calibration it but u need scan tool to do that

@@mativanarquero Did you fix it. I don't think that your problem is a throttle body, I believe it to be sensors, I just don't know which one yet. I replaced the Idle Control Valve in mine, and got excited for two weeks and now the problem is back again. I stalled at the stop light, and later It was choking after I filled it up with gas, so I could't start it at alll. It happened already secon time at the gas station.
@@babycakes8434 Yup. Turns out to be just wiring of the sensors near maf. My mechanic just sprayed electronic spray onto the sockets and my car has been running and idling smooth ever since.
@@mativanarquero You stumbled upon a good mechanic. I will buy myself some electronic spray. I need to also buy a voltage meter to be able to check the cables. I am tired of mechanics who don't know much about the diagnostics, or the ones that want to charge me $120 for diagnosing every problem that I get. They don't even want to apply that to a repair, if I fix it with them. Thank you for sharing.
if your car stalls like that check the mass airflow sensor, because if it is aftermarket, chances are it's a piece of you know what and might need to be replaced with an OEM.

Did the check engine light come on? I have a 2007 Matrix that had the throttle body cleaned a year ago at the Dealer plus I cleaned the MAF at home and replaced the plugs and PCV valve. It is now going down to about 500 rpm in drive at stop lights but it’s not til you have been driving for a while. The check engine light is off. Any thoughts?

Buy any spray that is made to clean throttle body and yes it will work

My problem starts when I stop at red light or stop and the auto stop kick in. When I remove my feet from the gas to go it starts spouting like it's not getting enough gas to go. If pump gas several it will go most times car dies and I gave to restart the car. The dealer charged me for cleaning throttle and reprogramming. Still having the same problem. Please help, what can be the problem?

Hello great explanation I have a question when I park and I come back to turn on the car it takes three or four times to turn on and it feels like it’s choking reversing or going forward I got a press the gas to make sure that it doesn’t star could that be the throttlebody that needs cleaning thanks
David Torres well I would clean the throttle anyways so all doubts are out of the way. But u said dosent star.? Did u mean stall if u did then it possable the engine is chocking due to dirty throttle body

What will happen if your throttle body stop opening and closed?
My car is a 2007 Nissan Bluebird Sylphy and shut off whilst waiting by the stop lights and sometimes if I'm in park with the ac on the car shits off. I would switch off and it starts again. Note if I put it in neutral whilst waiting at the lights it sometimes shuts off when gear changes to Drive. Is it the trottle
My 2010 f 150 had near stalling problem when I'd come to stop. Cleaned this and air mass flow sensor. Now runs smooth

Having same issue , mechanic first told me it was cam shaft synchronizer fixed that happened again. Then he said the IAC solenoid was seized .. fixed that and stalled again smh, happens when I come to a stop.

@@jDot2414 ..also had to replace fuel pump fuse little after too. Truck wouldn't start one time. Checked fuse it was burnt out., so check that too!

I subscribed. I have a Chevy trailblazer 06 and my engine is stalling when I come to a light or stop sign. I be so nervous. When I take off again the engine light blinks and it will accelerate slow and then go really fast. I hope after I do this it will solve the problem. Last winter I had to crank it like 8 times because it would turn off as soon as it started before it stayed running smoothly. 😣

Your trailblazer is going into limp mode because your catalytic converters are being flooded with gas. Either your cats are clogged, a coil is bad, you have a massive vacuum leak or your timing is off. Hearing your issue how it goes slow and blinks the lights is 100% the catalytic converter. Change it and thank me later
Battery cables are loose or broken, also can be with corrosion at their attachment to chassis.
So you don’t have to clean the other side of the throttle? I always thought you had to clean both sides and still have the electrical part connected to the throttlebody
I reached inside to clean the bore the back of the flap dosent make difference I did top of bore and bottom also the edge of the flap those are the areas that restrict the air

This is most likely it or ur throttle is bad if ur car has idle sensor works the same way

@@teddiazjr.6223 ok so it’s idle stall related what is ur rpm right before ur stalls out idle rpm should be like 700-800RPM
@@RBTheMechanic as your slowing down the idle drops to 800 then stalls out around 10ft before the stop sign

Hi Great Videos RB! I Have a Merceds A190 1999 semi auto. It tries to die when i come to a stop unless i manage to accelerate again quick enough. I f not it just stalls but as soon as i start the car again it's fine until i have to stop again. Would this be worth a try please? Thank you.

Giant stick, rest it on the gas pedal for one end. And the other end recline the seat forward to keep it in place.
I do that now also check brake lights like that

No you can clean the throttle it might help in some way but those cars have IAC which works like this throttle body it’s valve located on throttle body which I use to replace on older cars but they can be cleaned out u have to remove it involve some work also gaskets will brake u might have to replace that. Try this next time car is about to stall step on gas peddle to control the idle slightly press it and it car stays alive then u can try this service clean throttle and IAC

Mark Royes crank sensor is serious sensor car will not start ... check your timing give me the codes you have and please have it scanned with better scanner than Autozone autel scan tool and I will check on my computer
(2012 Toyota Camry) Car sounds like it’s a diesel for a few seconds when I start to accelerate. Shut off on me twice when I was on idle. Could this be the same issue or should I be trouble shooting else where? Thanks in advance for your response.
Well this can be the issue with stall most likely u need to do this to see the out come and the sound u might want to check ur oil if it’s due for oil change change that other than that not sure what the sound it might have to make a small video and post it

Thank for the video sir question I owned a 2011 Chevy Tahoe 5.3 that stalls and turns off when I'm at a red light or in a drive true I already checked for CODES but there's non because the check ingen light is not on will this help I already replaced all the spark plugs and spark plug wires and also replaced the battery terminal. Will this help help me solve my proble? Thanks for your time
Yup it will most likely fix the issue even if it dosent it will make the idle better. But most likely this is very common issue

You mentioned after doing this procedure the RPMs will go up when driving making the check engine light turn on. Is this temporary? If not what to do about this
Rpm will be higher depending on ur car if u got honda u will defiantly get check engine light and it will state rpm higher than expected but it will settle down in few drive cycles just reset the light
I get this idling behavior (and sometimes stall) as well but when I restart the car the problem is gone. My throttle body looks super clean. There is a screw missing on one of the connections (post filter I think). Could that loose connection interrupt the air flow and cause the issue? Intermittently?

It is better to remove the Throttle Body for proper cleaning (4 screws on my car, buy a Throttle Body gasket before, mine was good, but I still replaced it), since there are 2 sensors on it: Idle Air Control Valve and Throttle Position Sensor (both on 2 screws). I don't know if they are there in that particular location on every car, but on my (2001 Saturn SL2) they are there. Clean or better replace them, they get clogged w/carbon. Clean screws, put a small drop of Orange Threadlocker on each, and very little Dielectric Grease on O-ring of IAC Valve, and on all electrical connectors a bit as you normally do. It will be better update for your car. The film is good, thank you, but those 2 sensors are clogged as well as the surrounding walls on the Thr. Body.
Yeah u can do that but on some cars u will loose the memory and also when u open up the throttle plate manually u can damage it then u will need new throttle

I did it on my car, everything works well. The connection between the battery and computer (Powertrain Module in Saturn Sl2) is not good, but they told me at dealer (I need to get State Inspection done) it was bcs I disconnected the battery, so I need to drive more. I saw a film: the author replaced the Thr. Body as well (on Saturn), no complains about memory loss. Hopefully it won't happen on this car, but, again, very interesting fact to know, thank you.

@@RBTheMechanic 2014 Chevy SS it just started doing this the other day. I don't know if the converter stayed locked or if it the throttle body. It has a built LS3 with a 3600 stall. Been running fine for a while.

@@nomthandazonkomo2121 next time u get a stall try using ur gas peddle to keep it alive to confirm the problem is throttle if it stays alive then u can do throttle idle relearn if it’s been cleaned already
Hai! I have 2011 Volkswagen Polo petrol. I have the same issue.My car stalls at junctions where it is in idling rpm speed. Erratic idling. Rpm goes up and down. And the car loses power for a while. This doesn't happen always. And also my car shows error code p0172 rich code bank 1. Today I have cleaned throttle body as you show. Will this solve my issue. I also cleaned my MAP sensor as my car only has map not maf sensor.
