I can remember going to a high end bike shop near my grandmothers house . I would spend hours looking at that bike every time I went . I can’t remember the cost of it but in 1981 it was close to $1000 and that was a lot of juice . If you had it your dad was well off or you stole it . I ended up with a team CCM and decked it all up . We road everywhere on those bikes !! Most likely the best times of our lives. Thanks for posting this it really is exact right down to the bear trap pedals.

Yup...this one and the Quadangle were the coolest bikes back around 1980. The PK Ripper is definitely the top dog though.

A brand new pk ripper in 1983 was almost $1,000.... Nobody in my school could afford that,But everyone wanted one

I used to have a pk ripper in the 1980s when I was into bmx. I also had a gt and diamondback but the ripper was by far the best.

I wanted one of those so bad I literally tried stealing one because there was only one in Klamath falls Oregon that the shop sold out from under me and I had put my 30$ deposit and the other kid brought full price so I would stalk it whenever I saw it but could never get to him until one day I paid the poorest neighbor kid Steven to steal it for me and gave him the$30 deposit money to get it,well he did get it but was caught a few blocks away and so he snitched on me before he fully stopped,he got a theft charge and I just denied it and they couldn't get me to confess, so nothing happened to me but the moral of the story is don't steal nothing good comes of it and in my situation I lost a good buddy and gave myself a bad name in 8 th grade and no object no matter how shiney is, is worth that

This was the Bentley of Bikes, I owned one had to keep it riding or in the house all eyes were on me at all times. I eventually let it go but not without something in return. High Commodity back in the 80's.

Very nice! I had a red PK, 1983. I preferred ACS Z-rims to mags, uni hammerhead, Takagi one piece crank, Shimano DX pedals to name a few differences. Been toying with the idea of building an exact replacement, so you might have tipped the scales.... Upgrading to Profile cranks this time! lol
    Cheers! 🍺

Owned a Quad, PK & Floval in the 80s. wish I still had them now. Do SE still make Standing Gear forks? The only drawback with the PK is if you ran the seat pole to high it tended to snap off frame below seat post clamp.

The owner states it's a 1980. Unfortunately, you can't date vintage PKs by serial number, but for sure this is a pre-84. So yeah, it's probably an 80.
