An amazing movie that was further elevated by watching all six Rocky movies that came before!
Thank you all for the support!
please watch 13 hours and the out post for pretty good war movies
Samantha nailed it, without seeing any of the other movies when you first saw it you probably got nothing out of it. And now you can see what a great movie this was.
And another movie you should watch and react to, Million Dollar Baby, starring Hillary Swank, Clint Eastwood, and Morgan Freeman. (And Freeman narrates as well). Clint Eastwood repeats the Academy Award wins for Best picture, best director, best actress (Swank), and best supporting actor, (Freeman). Eastwood also was again nominated for best actor also, but didn't win. Oh, bring a lot of tissues.
Danny Wheeler who they said was #2 Pound for Pound that he fought in the gym is a real boxer named Andre Ward. Andre Ward was #2 Pound for Pound in real life right behind Floyd Mayweather and retired Undefeated in 2017 after winning championships in Multiple weight classes and being the last man from America to win a Gold Medal in the Olympics in 2004.
Tony Bellew is a real boxer as well and plays the guy he fought at the end.
Andre Ward was one of my favorite fighters. Nice to see a true Master of the Craft of Boxing cast in this movie.
Can't wait to see you two react to Creed 2, since that's one of my personal favourite Rocky/Creed film.
The hardest part for me is when Rocky is talking about how his son moved and how sad he seems and then you realize that Stallone's real life son had died, and that his son from Rocky 5 was was his real life son.
Yes, also his son died of a heart attack when this movie was in pre production so Adonis looking at a picture of young Robert played by Stallone’s real son is very heart breaking. According to Stallone and Coogler, the father and son dynamic between Rocky and Adonis was a tribute to Sage
@@valeria262 I read that the reason Robert wasn’t in this movie was because it was still too difficult for Stallone (being only a few years after Sage’s death) to have his son in it, even though he was played by a different actor.
@@valeria262 Coogler even insisted that picture be in the film. He felt it was only right to honor Sage, both as a person and through is place in the series. It took some coercing, but I'm glad Stallone agreed.
Watched this in theaters and cried like a grown man. This definitely fits in the Rocky series and a great tribute to Apollo. Glad to see you both reacting to all the movies!
My wife asked was I crying and of course I wasn't the damn onions and dust were heavy as hell at this point in the movie
Us as well 😢😢 this was the best idea ever and Michael B. Jordan was Golden casting 🥲🥲🥲🥲
@Antidote then stay with your rocky and don't watch it.
@Antidote like the dead sea 😂
The director of this film, Ryan Coogler, was an actual Rocky fan. You can see how much heart he put in the making of this. that's why everythings fits, why every aspect of previous movie is given due respect. This is what happens when everyone is really commited to the project. (and one of the punches in the colan fight was 100% real and Michael B Jordan was knocked unconscious)
Ryan Coogler made this movie as a love letter to his father who was the ultimate Rocky fan.
Ryan Coogler combined with Michael B. Jordan usually means a great film
Coogler continues to be a terrific writer and director
Stallone wanted Jordan to take a punch. Stallone did it in Rocky IV and ended up in the hospital.
He said he always saw the “Apollo as the hero of Rocky” pretty bizarre if you ask me but whatever.
Stallone should receive the lifetime achievement award just for his portrayal of Rocky alone. He has given us 40+ years of heart.
One of the interesting things with Creed is how sorta melancholy the ending actually is. They never actually say that Rocky beats his cancer - just that he's agreed to fight it. Creed's girlfriend is still losing her hearing and they can't stop that. The champ is good enough to beat Creed for now, but he's going away to prison and when he comes out he won't be in his prime anymore. Nobody in the movie beats time, time is undefeated.
Another boxing themed fiction comes to mind. "A Piece of Steak" by Jack London also explores how fighters cannot beat time, as the old must be destroyed by the young who become old themselves in the battle.
Except for the goat of all goats TOM BRADY kicks father times ass everyday. Ha ha just joking great point.

Facts
Creed is one of the best examples of doing a "Passing of the torch" movie right.
Not sure if anyone's mentioned this so my apologies if someone has but Sylvia Meals who played Apollo Creed's wife in Rocky 2 and 4 passed away in 2011, but honestly I don't think they could have possibly found a better replacement to play the character than Phylicia Rashad. Honestly after a few minutes I almost forgot it was a different actress and fully believed it was an older version of Apollo's wife.
I saw this in theaters and this one was HARD to watch. I'd seen all the Rocky films so getting all the references so seeing Paulie's grave hurt, but, for me, it was painful to watch as I'd lost my father to cancer 2 years earlier. He fought for over a year so I spent a LOT of time in hospitals and many long nights helping my Dad while he was violently sick, so when Adonis is carrying Rocky to the bathroom to be ill I FELT that.
Oh noooooo! 😥 I was just googling that character to see if she was Mary Anne was Creed's wife in the earlier movies. Because when I first saw this I remembered that Adonis was like his out-of-marriage kid and I was confused at first and thought Adonis was his son from his marriage because reactions don't show everything.
I’m sorry about your father.
@@holeefuksumtingwong5788 I appreciate that. Thank you. Also your username made me laugh out loud. I'd like to add Wii Tu Lo and Bang Ding Ow! Never gets old! 😆
@@chaospoet lmao I completely forgot about those names. Such an awful thing but so funny at the same time lol.
@@holeefuksumtingwong5788 In total agreement. A genuine tragedy. But the fact they said that on air with a straight face and had the balls to add to it that those names were quote "Confirmed" as the pilots names makes it the funniest thing I've ever seen on the news. And it's been almost 10 years and still nothing else has come close to equaling that let alone surpassing it.
Some facts about Creed: Movie opened November 25, 2015. This date coincides with the 40th anniversary of the opening scene in the original film, where Rocky fights Spider Rico. Sylvester Stallone shocked the world winning the Best Picture Oscar with Rocky. But he never won an acting award. He WON Best Supporting Actor at BOTH the Golden Globes AND the Critics Choice Awards for Creed. He SHOULD have won the Oscar, as well, but lost in a controversial split decision to Mark Rylance for Bridge of Spies. Rylance was great but only appeared in that movie for about 10 cumulative minutes. People gave Sylvester Stallone standing ovations at the Golden Globes and Critics Choice Awards. At the Globes, Will Smith was seen clapping next to Jada Pinkett Smith. No punches were thrown.
This is the last film I saw with my mom. She died March of 2016 without any warning at age 64. Just seeing that date in your comments reminded me of that. She loved this movie.
Also, as someone who grew up on the Rocky films AND is a huge Stallone fan...this movie broke me. Seeing this amazing character who I grew up with go through chemo brought me to tears
If they let Rocky die in this one, Sly would get the Oscar for sure! He got everything else for this roll.
Me too!
This movie people thought would be sort of a joke and it turned out to be a MASTERPIECE, and one of the best movies of the franchise… unbelievable job by Coogler and Stallone as Stallone got an Oscar nomination for this role
He won the Oscar!
@@collapsing_star No, he didn't.
Agreed! This movie really subverted Hollywood's bad habit of badly rehashing old ideas. This might be the best spinoff of a franchise ever.
@@claymccoy wups you’re right lol. I was thinking of the Golden Globe.
@CYB3R2K30 Creed 2 was good it just wasn’t as good as the first movie
Stallone had no plans of playing Rocky again. However he was convinced by Ryan Coogler who's the writer & director. Originally he said no but changed his mind after he watched Fruitvale station. Also starring B Jordan & Directed by Coogler
If Rocky died in this one he'd get the Oscar 100%.
@@4Everlast your probably right. He was the favorite to win it but they robbed him
@@rxtsec1 he got the golden globe, right?
@@samanthanickson6478 I think so
@@samanthanickson6478 yes he did
Was disappointed initially that TBR had already seen the movie but then something magical happened… I could see him making the connections to the Rocky lore in real time as he watched. The ‘oh that’s why’ reaction was almost better than watching the movie for the first time ever. Between the reactions of TBR and Sam, this video was one of your best - I thoroughly enjoyed it (and why was I crying too? 😂)
Rocky Jr's absence is because Stallone's son Sage, who'd played him in the fifth film, had tragically died of heart disease at just 36 a few years earlier. Despite his being replaced by Milo Ventimiglia in Balboa, everyone agreed it would be inappropriate to bring the character back (and I can't imagine how painful it would have been for Stallone).
Well they actually do bring him back in Creed II
@@MrTheebs Spoilers for TBR Schmidt
@@MrTheebs Spoilers...
Yeah he died when this film was in pre production actually so it was very fresh in Stallone’s heart that he almost backed out of it
Ryan Coogler did such a great job directing this.
he also wrote the script. This is HIS movie. Wish he did the 2nd one too.
@@ADifferentVibe yea, not to ruin 2nd one for them but I could definitely tell the difference with him not directing the 2nd one although he was on as a producer.
@@florenciohernandezjr.2556 producers just hire the director, cast and crew making the movie, supporting their creative choices without making the choices themselves. Movies are more of a director's medium...either making or breaking the script into a finished film. But Ryan did write the story outline for Creed III so there is a base. Then again, his brother is a co-writer who just finished Space Jam: A New Legacy, which was a terrible film. Let's hope Michael B. will pull it all together in his directorial debut while still being the lead. I'm cautiously optimistic.
@@ADifferentVibe Yeah. It's impossible to not notice the difference in direction for the sequel. But, TBR still might like it.
@@JamesASharp it wasn’t bad, just different.
The soundtrack to this movie is crazy good as well - really incorporates the rocky themes well while building up to a final creed theme!
I love the running scene music when it goes into slow mo and the vocals kick in and then Getting Stronger mixes in a bit is just chills
Ludwig Goransson is one of the best movie composers working today. He won an Oscar for his score on Black Panther.
@@glennwelsh9784 his work on The Mandalorian was great as well.
And having the Roots, a legendary hip hop group from philly is a great modern touch as they are old school and full of heart like Rocky
One of the few reaction channels that i enjoy the last 15 minutes as much as the first 35.
This film really showcases the difference between Stallone and Schwarzenegger. The media would pit the two as action movie rivals, which they were from a marketing standpoint for their action films, but honestly Stallone was more of an "actor" in the traditional sense. Arnold makes movies, whereas Stallone makes FILMS. I've never cried at an Arnold movie, but I have in Stallone films. Another Stallone film you should see is "Cop Land"...and you'll see Stallone in a very different way :)
Arnold had an good performance as a father in Maggie where his daughter was slowly becoming a zombie. Sad movie
While I will definitely, definitely agree Sly had always been more of a 'actor's actor', don't discredit Schwarzenegger too much!
I have watched the interviews and documentaries, but it seems Schwarzenegger had a harder time breaking out of the action-star mold because of his voice and accent. There is some footage out there of people saying Arnie really wanted to expand in to Comedies and Drama's, but publishers didn't think it would work and would leash him to more action-oriented projects.
tl;dr: Stallone /is/ a true actor, but Arnie definitely tried to expand his repertoire.
CopLand is PHENOMENAL and GROSSLY underrated and mistreated! 💗👍💪
"I've never cried at an Arnold movie" - Hello? Never seen Commando? Heartless bastard.
You didn't cry at the end of Terminator 2?
I can see your point though
Trivia: Portraying Rocky's physical deterioration was a humbling experience for Sylvester Stallone. "When you sit in the chair and you come as one person and then you open your eyes an hour and a half later and you've been transformed to a person who's not healthy... it's very relatable," the 69-year-old said. "This is what people live through every day... it made me definitely realize the clock is ticking."
shit .. 🥲
Stallone actually still owns those turtles from the first Rocky film. He posted a pic on FB today. They are 47 years old.
Great job guys!! 🙏🏽

Primal Fear is a great choice.
I absolutely loved the small clip of Apollo fighting Rocky from the first film that picked up Adonis from the canvas. What a great moment!
I went to bed early last night, so I get my TBR fix during lunch today.
Yes it should be a prerequisite to watch the entire Rocky saga before watching this movie! Nice job guys!
I think a big part of why Rocky was apprehensive about training Adonis at first was Rocky's previous experience being the trainer for Tommy Gunn.
And Apollo dying in a fight.
That does make sense.
I'm glad they acknowledged it in the film when Rocky told Adonis "I don't do that stuff no more." Referring to him managing Tommy. I know Stallone wasn't pleased with Rocky 5 but it did happen and is worth acknowledging as part of the Rocky story.
@@josephflores2957 I used to be Rocky V doesn't exist but you can't just pick and choose what part of the series you accept though. And without Part V it wouldn't make any sense of why Rocky was suddenly not rich anymore.
Can't wait for Creed III. Very interested in how they carry on and I think Michael B. Jordan is directing the movie.
I loved seeing Phylicia Rashad in this movie. Last time I saw her was when she played Claire Huxtable in "The Cosby Show". She still looks amazing.
Very intuitive comment talking about how Rocky can empathize with Creed not wanting to be in his father's shadow based on his own relationship with his son.
This movie is incredible, especially the music! Love the blending of new themes and the classic Rocky theme. My brother and I were smiling like crazy and the theater clapping when the Rocky theme hit at the end. Also, it's crazy to think Sylvester Stallone and Burgess Meredith, the actor who played Mickey, were the same age when this film was made😮🤯
This is the only time I cried because of a movie trailer. They put a shot of Paulie's headstone in it and you could read the name. I was so shocked and upset just like when someone suddenly calls to tell you an old uncle died. And it was a trailer. 😭 I'll never forget that trauma.
After Creed 2 there is one more powerful Boxing Film I highly recommend. "A million Dollar Baby" directed by Clint Eastwood, starring Clint Eastwood, Morgan Freeman and Hilary Swank. (A girl you will meet again in Karate Kid 4). It won 4 Oscars including Best Picture. And as with Rocky 1, many people think this will be just another boxing movie. But it is so much more.
Great film but boy is it depressing
This is my favorite sports movie of all time!!!! And it home hard for me because this movie came out only 6 months after my mom passed away from complications from cancer. She had fought it on and off for 10 years, and because she was a single mother I was her primary caretaker. The scenes of Rocky struggling from the chemotherapy were hard to watch, but the fact that it was perfectly matched with the training montage definitely uplifted me. The line of “If I fight, you fight” still stays with me because my mom and I had the same deal. She fought for 10 years on and off and while it was a rough fight, it was worth it.
As for the movie itself, it’s a flawless masterpiece. Ryan Coogler actually tried to make Creed his first film but Sly Stallone said he would only work with him after he did at least one film. After he made Fruitvale Station Sly was all in. And I mean this from the bottom of my heart, this is (in my opinion) the best performance of his career. He was robbed of an Oscar but thankfully he got TONS of other awards for this movie. The scene of him telling Donny that he wishes he could spend one more day with his wife still brings me to tears.
Stallone had no intention in continuing the character of Rocky until this story idea was brought to him.
I am so glad he liked this, and wanted to be a part of this movie.
It was definitely incredible so I am so glad the story continues!
This was also the first time a movie in the Rockyverse wasn't written by Sly himself. But Sly did write Creed II.
As someone who had to watch a loved one battle cancer and see the devastating side effects of chemotherapy that it inflicts on a person, Sylvester Stallone‘s portrayal of a cancer patient in this movie is by far the most accurate I’ve ever seen put on film
“Cinderella Man”…will blow your mind…!!!!👊🏽🇲🇽
Always been a huge Rocky fan, and I was surprised by how much I liked this movie. They really made a modern Rocky story while not doing a remake and keeping the series going with respect to the originals.
Alot more tears then expected. Great reaction.
The scene when Michael B Jordan went down was really him getting knocked out during the filming of the last fight and that main punch. His/that knockout was real.
Boxing isn't as popular as it used to be when Muhammed Ali was the most famous person in the world, but it's contributed so many common English sayings: it's the origin of "saved by the bell"; having someone "in your corner"; going "toe to toe" with your enemy; "rolling with the punches"; that was "below the belt"; "beating them to the punch"; "throwing in the towel"; "knowing the ropes"; "giving them the old one-two."
Fun fact: the scene with Adonis training by throwing punches while watching film was inspired by a guy who actually trained himself how to box by watching all the Rocky films
I have never seen this movie. My God! I was diagnosed with Non-Hodgekis Lymphoma on July 31st, 2013 @ 11:15 am. So, two day's after Christmas that year they removed my Spleen. I was in remission until late 2016, until the night sweats came back. I started Chemo-Therapy in Jan. 2017, for six month's. Two day's in the IV chair, six hour's each day. It's like dying, but only torture. After my treatment they took a PET Scan to see if they got the Lymphoma. They did, BUT I have Lung Cancer. So, on Friday, October the 13th, 2017 they took out my Left Superior Lung out through my back. Plus, I have 9 Stent's. That's why I could only watch this for a little over half way. Sorry! But, I do love your reaction's. My favorite is when you did "Unforgiven". I relate more to the movie "The Shootist", with John Wayne. His last movie. He was diagnosed with Lung Cancer and had his left Lung and two rib's removed. He lived another 15 year's. It was also Jimmy Stewart's last movie, and it also starred Lauren Bacall and Ron Howard. Thanks again for the great reaction's!
You guys are so great at these reactions. You notice things in movies that I was oblivious to, like when Samantha noticed the parallel between Rocky wanting to keep Adonis out of his dad's shadow, as far as getting there on his own instead of by his name, because he knew his son was going through the same thing (maybe I'm just dim for not connecting it). Also, noticing how he kept warming up his hands, not used to the Philly weather coming from LA. Attention to detail is impressive and appreciated.
Movies don’t make me cry but this one messed me up since my father passed away from Non Hodgkin’s Lymphoma shortly before I saw it. Typically I hate when movies manipulate our emotions by having a character die from cancer. But it was uplifting to see Rocky fight and win. My father had that fight the first time he was sick, unfortunately years later he didn’t have the same fight when he got it again.
I love how right towards the end, Donny finally says what his motivation has always been. To prove that he wasn't a mistake. That one really hits you.
Yup when Rocky says "You're a Creed and I love you kid" and Adonis quietly says "I love you too" that moment made me get emotional. Then the Rocky theme chimes in.
These movies go so hard! Can’t wait for the reaction to Creed 2, it’s by far my favorite.
You can see why Stallone won an award for the role.
When Adonis gets knocked out I believe he sees about three quick scenes back to back, I think one is being training with Rocky and then another one being Rocky on a hospital bed with an IV in the frame, lastly we see a shot of Apollo alive in the ring facing someone with white shorts with a red stripe from the perspective of the stands. It's been awhile since I've watched the movie so maybe they actually confirmed it, but I think it hence that Adonis actually saw Apollo fight Rocky and that emotionally Rocky is an anchor and connection to his father even more so than Apollo's wife. We literally see those shots in succession and it seems like it's saying that he connected Rocky being close to dying to his dead fathwr or losing another father
You guys never fail to deliver the best commentary 👌👏
their post credit breakdowns have been getting better with each new video, it's actually so impressive, I'm kinda jealous.. 😂
I cant believe I just realized one of the reasons Adonis might have freaked out and went to take a dump before his fight with Leo could have been because he remembered what his mom said about his arms being too numb to wipe afterwards. Then again he'd fought before so maybe I'm overthinking it
Wow.. me2
By far...the best follow up/continuation of a beloved franchise. Its not a perfect movie but for both continuing a series that people love and starting it's own story no movie has ever done it better.
Just wanted to say how much I've enjoyed going on this Rocky journey with you guys, Its been a really awesome experience. This reaction was everything I hoped it would be. Cant wait till you watch Creed 2
Fun fact: If u noticed how the fights looked so much more realistic, it's because they use 3 legit real-life boxers/former champs: Leo Sporino was played by Gabe Rosado, Danny Wheeler was played by Andre Ward, & "Pretty" Ricky Conlan was played by Tony Bellew.
YES! - Creed 1 and 2 is a new amazing chapter for Rocky!
Creed is a great follow up to the Rocky series. Creed 2 is one of those rare sequels in which it's just as good as, if not better than, its predecessor.
The Rocky films have been a big part of my life during the 1970's through 2006.
Sidenote: Apollo also had two children with Mary Anne, they can be seen briefly in Rocky II. However, they are never mentioned in the Creed films.
I've noticed that too. I would love to see Adonis in a future Creed movie at least acknowledge his brother and sister that have been totally forgotten about.
They actually do mention it in the PTI segment on ESPN they call Adonis the youngest biological kid of Apollo creed by saying “the youngest” they acknowledge it must be older kids.
I love watching both your reactions to movies / shows. Watching you two reactions to Reacher made me like that you understood how deep this movie is. I love that it shows Apollo and Rocky's rivalry blossomed into brotherly love (regardless of race) it was two men who bonded and respected each other. Rocky and Apollo truly loved each other, and Rocky did carry the guilt of did he make right decision to lose his brother and then have to help Apollo's son. I loved that Apollo's son referred to Rocky and his uncle because all in all, Apollo and Rocky were that close.
It shouldn’t be possible that a film makes you cry over a pair of shorts, but it does. What an incredible character and story. Really enjoyed this one. Ty!
Michael B Jordan deserves so much respect for his dedication to the role. The guy legit trained HARD and it shows. Credit to the production as well, the camera work was money.
I agree🙌🏾 A lot of people don’t take that into consideration😭
I'm glad you guys did this whole franchise. Now I'm motivated to watch Creed 2 for the first time.
Just a recommendation that other might agree with. Before watching ‘Creed 2’ perhaps revisit Rocky 4 (but this time the directors cut version)…..by the time you watch ‘Creed 2’ you’ll be glad to have done the rewatch

This movie brought so much tears to me when I watched it. Also, Bianca was my fav character. She's not Adrian, but she's Creed's Adrian, they are such an adorable couple.
The spinoff that nobody saw coming.
Very much on par with the first and last Rocky films.
You couldn't see this film in any other way.
I knew that Apollo had a couple kids (boy and girl) that were in Rocky 2.
Pre-release, I thought that Adonis was one of those kids.
But as the child that nobody knew about was a big surprise.
Loved the writing and direction by Coogler.
Great chorography for the fights.
B. Jordan gives one of the best performances of 2015.
Stallone never dissappoints as Rocky, nominated once again and he wins the Golden Globe (Best Supporting).
The success of CREED reminds us of what Rocky said in the previous film.
It ain't over till it's over. Wait till you see part 2.
What a great reaction, you guys have really made my rewatch in these movies so much more appreciative the great greatness of the Rocky saga continues with Creed … thank you so much, looking forward to Creed 2.
The movie could've felt like bad Rocky fan fiction, but the performances and directing elevate it. Stallone won a Golden Globe and was nominated for an Oscar for his performance in this film, 30 years after being nominated for playing Rocky in the original film.
By the way, that slow-motion punch that nearly knocked Adonis out toward the end? Michael B. Jordan took that punch and was knocked out for real to get that shot.
Saw this in the theatre with a hope this good attitude. Came out loving this movie so much. Cried when rocky said he’s not gonna fight the cancer and especially when creed said to prove I wasn’t a mistake. That hit too close to home for me. That’s what made me love it. Got the soundtrack too for the gym next to the rocky soundtracks
I like the way they put Johnson on the back of the shorts. 😄
Hello guys! I'm late to the watch, but you guys never fail to bring it! I always love when TBR tries not to cry. He looks like someone is off camera sticking pins into the bottom of his feet! LOL. Samantha doesnt care, she just lets it flow! I just love you guys!!!! Im ready for CreedII!
The scene where Adonis goes down, he really got punched. its footage somewhere showing when they shot that part.
Conlan is a real champion boxer as well so it hurt! Even better is that they messed up the first shot so Jordan had to do it a second time!
It's amazing how a movie character can make you cry for him..i don't think I could handle an on screen Rocky death ..it really is like a family member watching the character go thru so many stages
i only listened to this because i was at work but damn i still got choked up
I love how they actually use real boxers in these movies to add legitimacy to the series.
When Samantha cried at seeing the Creed shorts, it got me 😭 😭😭
ANOTHER great reaction, thank you! For Rocky to admit Apollo won the third fight -- I was in the theater, tears streaming down my face. Can't wait for your reaction to Creed II.. again, thank you...
I just want a little backstory on what happened to Clubber Lang like they did with Spider Rico in the early parts of Rocky Balboa. But, Great Reactions, BTW!
Michael B Jordan actually got knocked out in the final boxing match of the movie by the boxer. Sylvester Stallone told him that he had to take a real punch to make the movie authentic
Samantha is me through this whole movie. It was such an emotional, action packed, dramatic story worth telling. The history is legacy. I saw it in theaters and was full of anxiety, tense and teary. So well done.
Love this film, i don't care that its a soft reboot- its so well done.
I'm glad you mentioned that Stallone is a good actor, that gets overlooked a lot. You should definitely react to Copland- the best acting hes ever done imo.
I second this!
There are a lot of reasons I think this is a great movie.
Ryan Coogler, the director, said that he got the idea for this story because his dad got sick when he was young. He had always thought of his dad as a powerful man, and to see him get the wind knocked out of him from the illness was really powerful for him. The Rocky movies were something they watched together, and so the series had great personal meaning for them.
When Coogler went to pitch the movie to Stallone, he was really intimidated because Stallone created the character and was so protective of him. This is the first Rocky movie that Stallone had no part in writing. I think it really works in the film's favor though, in the sense that the movie parallels its own making. You just swap Coogler for Adonis, and Stallone for Rocky -- a young guy comes to lure the famous veteran out of retirement.
In the scene where Donnie finds the photo of Robert, they used a photo from when Stallone's own son played Robert. As many mentioned, Stallone's son passed away, and I think you really feel a weight of emotion in the scene when Stallone talks about how he "moved to Vancouver."
The great payoff for the movie is that Coogler's dad survived his illness and recovered, and got to attend the premiere of this movie that his son made resurrecting the character they loved so much.
I agree with the commenter above that this is the best Rocky. It edges out the original, barely, but I also think Creed could not be what it is without the foundation of all the other Rocky movies. It manages to top it, but only by building on everything that came before. It also helps that I think Stallone gives one of the best performances of his career in the movie. "You're a Creed, and I love you kid" and "My wife tried that" are just such powerful moments. He deserved the Oscar.
Once again guys, you are watching one of my annual film binges and the reviews are amazing, keep up the amazing work, great reaction :)
I watch this film with my friend , she had seen all the Rocky films years ago when she was a kid , and I had already watched the film at the cinema , I told her that it was a really good continuation of the Rocky story , but she was not very hopeful about the film, after watching so much of the crap that Hollywood has been putting out lately . When Rocky got the cancer diagnosis, she made me pause the film , and forced me to tell her if Rocky was going to die, because if he was, she was not going to watch the rest of the film and watch another franchise get ruined lol, I had to promise that HE was going to be OK lol .
Currently the best duo-reactors on the platform!
I feel normal in your company and that's a big relief when the world and I
are desperate for a touch of intellect and some dry but bubbly humor!
The Boxer at the beginning that was number 2 in the world is actually a real boxer and was one of the best of his era, Andre Ward
I didn't even catch that creed was always warming up his hands because he's not used to the east coast. cool detail also I love Samanthas reactions to everything! so sweet
You see Apollo's other kids briefly in Rocky II in the scene where Apollo is reading his hate mail to Mary Anne.
God I love these movies. I honestly forgot how incredible the Rocky and now Creed franchises are; rewatching them with you guys has been so awesome.
Fun fact: the punch in the Conlan fight was real. MBJ took a real punch from the fighter. Also Stallone was nominated for his first Golden Globe for his performance in this movie.
so heres a little fact i didnt realize till the other day micky from the rocky franchise is also the o.g. joker from the Adam west version of batman tv show . it is the original wife of creed same actress
He was the penguin and it's a completely different actress. 🤦♂️
@@dustywaynemusic6297 arh got my batman bad guyz mixed up so its not the wife form rocky 1 as the change her in 2 then again in 4 i thought is was the same one from 1
I grew up with these movies and its great to see the next generation fall in love with them
I've really enjoyed watching you react to the Rocky series and was really anticipating this one. I grew up watching the Rocky movies as they came out. Being in mid 50s now, I can relate much better to where Rocky is in his life. When I first watched Creed, it had been more than a few years since seeing the Rocky movies, so there was a lot I didn't catch. Going through the series with your reactions had given me a much greater appreciation for how good this movie is. Thank you for that.
When that Rocky theme kicks in at the end...Can you say "goosebumps"?
This script was beautifully written and the perfect plot to follow the previous saga. I really liked how it clearly established the direction of the new saga, the callbacks to previous characters while adding new ones. I'm excited for Creed 3 and to see MBJ's directorial debut!
I had the same experience! I watched Creed when it came out without ever seeing any Rocky movies. I’m so glad I’ve gone in this Rocky journey with you two. I’m sobbing watching this video. What a movie!
Only thing that a lot of people were mad about this was that Apollo had a kid in the side. Turned him into the usual pro athlete that would have a kid outside of marriage.
When I watched this film for the first time I never expected to cry as much as I do, I still do everyone, I love how Adonis is there with him whilst Rocky his throwing up in the toilet, so beautiful it broke me.
A couple of real life Boxers in this film , Andre Ward is the guy Adonis fights first, and Pretty Ricky Conlan is my fellow countryman and former Cruiserweight champion of the world Tony Belew.
There’s a lovely echo/callback to Mickey when Rocky says to Adonis “I love ya kid” which were Mickeys last words to Rocky before he dies.
I’m glad you mentioned about how good Stallones acting is, I think it’s generally people who haven’t really watched him who say he’s a bad actor, as far as action stars go he the absolute best!
Love the commentary on all the movies I’ve seen so far! Appreciate the time you’ve spent putting these together and the genuineness of your reactions. Keep ‘em coming! Thank you!
Knew this movie was going to be great when the opening Creed title comes on the screen with the music swelling got chills in the theaters
I'm 46 so I grew up on Rocky movies. Even saw ROCKY IV in the theater. 5 is my fav, but this was so emotional for me too.
Wow, what a journey this was! I watched the movies years ago, and didn't get it. Watching with you two...I got it. Thank you both for doing this series.
This has been the reaction I've been waiting for since I saw you react to the first Rocky. 💙
Hope you enjoy!
I think it's a crime how few reactions there are to this movie. This flick has so many moments that get me emotional. So I am eternally grateful to you.
Same!
