I agree. The three inch just looks right. The extra inch on this one doesn't get you a ton more energy out of the 357, but the sights make it much easier to hit stuff at a distance.
@@lanemerrill Yeah, that's fair. I went and took a glace at Ballistics by the Inch and they show a 100 to over 150 fps (depending on load) difference between the 3" and 4"
Nice gun. I was eyeing that 6-shot bullet loops in the background. That and the holster are very nicely done! Good video and I appreciated the comparison of recoil between the three different loadings. I'm keeping my opinion of round butts to myself. i do like the 3" barrels though.
I bought my mother the 3" barrel version when these first came out, phew, probably 30 years ago? She kept it as her bedside gun until she passed a few years back. I have never seen the 4" version. I don't see how a 4" 5 shot revolver makes much sense, but someone must've asked for it if they built it. Good review, thanks!
I have the 3" version as well. Aesthetically I think the 3" looks the best. I got the 4" mainly for my wife and girls to shoot. The slightly longer barrel along with the tru-glo sights really help them get on target.
I thought the same thing until I put the 4" SP101 in my hand and compared that to the GP100 4"... Yes, you lose ONE round, but in return you have 11 ounces less to carry and a far more useful thickness profile. Same ballistics. It's a trade off for sure. SP101 's seem to have slightly better DA triggers from the factory than the GP100. I have tried a few.
@@krashdude1 The 3" SP101 was heavy as a brick in it's own right. I like the SP101, but im not sure what practical value it has in 2024, other than being really cool and really fun.
yes, for sure... It's more about enjoyment and pride of ownership. I have lots of semi autos that are far more efficient....being a better tool much of the time. @@Valorius
I've always had an issue with the single action \ double action thing! They should be reversed. Cocking the hammer, then pulling the trigger is 2 actions! Just pulling the trigger is 1 action. 😭
You know I never thought about it that way. If you are counting the actions taken to fire the weapon, you are technically correct. But I think it refers to the action taken by the trigger. But I could certainly see how that could be confusing 😄
Great presentation thanks for putting this together. Is there any particular ammo you prefer to put through the SP that it likes or is it a good all rounder ?
TH-cam seems to be glitching again. Responded a couple of times but they seem to disappear. I've had good luck with the 130 grain Winchester white box 38 spl. Only shot a few different types of 357 through it, and they all performed about the same. Check out the video I did comparing it to the GP100.
Nice review. The RMR is a Trijicon product though. 🥲 you should do a Burris Fastfire durability test with “How many .357 can it take” as the premise. Would be good data.
Thanks for the info! The Fastfire I have on my GP100 has done well so far. At least its weight tames the recoil a bit. Although the first time I took it out shooting I had to tighten the battery cap after a few rounds.
It's actually not that big, with heavy clothes u can pocket carry it. Yes you do feel the weight but keep in mind it's made to handle full power 357 you're probably used to 9mm.
I think the 3 inch model is the best looking of them but having those adjustable sights might be handy!

The 3'' SP is really the best looking one. But I do shoot the 4'' a bit more accurately.

LOL, I like round butts and I cannot lie. Thanks for the review. My favorite revolver for sure.
Thanks for watching! Once S&W stopped making the K frames in 357mag, the SP101 became the best next option for a smaller size revolver.

Not enough shots just 5 rounds in a gun that big and heavy is a joke
If you think the SP101 is heavy, you should hold a GP100 😁
It’s 29.7 ounces which isn’t heavy for a solid 4 inch barrel. Most revolvers that size are heavier.
You literally can't fit any more with a cylinder that thin. It's 10 Oz lighter than a 6 shot

Thanks for watching D5quared91! I think the issue is the size of the cylinder and how many chambers it can safely have.
