Good to know. My husband has PKD but got a kidney transplant. This is great information to understand. So it sounds like the filtration process is where the problem starts. Not being able to filtrate certain things.
Glad you found the video helpful. PKD goes beyond the scope of this video, but with the damage that comes with PKD, you are losing functional tissue, meaning that there would be fewer nephrons to do the work that needs to happen. And that has all kinds of negative effects.

Yes, it can be replaced or repair through surgery. And if it can't be replaced or is damaged, that can lead to kidney damage or loss.
