      +Blair Lovett i understand man, it was hard to see all of this happen live too and i really didn't expect them to be this torn up when they came out of the holle either i thought maybe some broken plastics and fiberglass, broken windshields maybe a bent rim or 10 and possibly one or two at the most with a really badly twisted frame but i never expected to see one that was as far gone as that Mallet Hammer or the ZR1 Spyder the rarest corvette ever made. Thankfully they are rebuilding the ones that can be and just using the couple that can't be as museum pieces.

      I am a ford fan but man I love Corvettes to this is absolutely heartbreaking to watch and also brings tears to my eyes I'm a huge fan of Corvettes and I wish I could have one. Just the view of those cars toppling down into the dirt is really is the worst thing ever imaginable Corvette fans like me I cannot disagree more of how sad this is watch.

    This has to be most complete video I have seen of the car recovery process I have ever seen. Outstanding job on chronicling this. These cars need to be remembered for what they were. I was glad that at least three of them were restored. Having been to the Corvette Museum recently, I can truly appreciate the scope of this entire event. I highly recommend making the trip to see it. Catch dinner at the Montana Grille afterwards to complete the day! You won't be disappointed! Thank you for this video!

      @@DaddytechEnt You are the only TH-cam video that shows ALL EIGHT of the cars being pulled from the hole that I could find. It really helps to understand why those last cars were in such terrible shape. They were shredding even as they tried to pull them free, up and out. Ouch.
      Is there any additional security video showing the 62 and the other one on the rack falling in? I would like to see that to understand how the 62 was not more damaged than what it was.

  • @olliegoria
    @olliegoria 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Glad they managed to restore three of them, but it's still hard. Damages went from minor paint and windshield damages on one car, to another car being reduced to a twisted chassis and a tire.

    • @DaddytechEnt
      @DaddytechEnt  6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      i think that mallet hammer got it the worst. that thing was an acordian. i don't think there was anything on that car except a few bolts and maybe 2 rims that would be able to be used again. and one of the rims that made it is probably bent because of the way they recovered those cars. the 40th anniversary car could have easiily been restored if they had picked it up differently the 1millionth corvette could have been taken out with half the damage it had if they'd have picked it up differently. but the others there really just was no getting them out without any further damage because they were buried under tons of dirt and rocks. i watched that whole rescue live on their web cams (i worked from home at the time) and it was all i could do not to get in my truck and drive up there and tell them the right and easier way to do those rescues. i'm no professional or anything either but a lot of what they did pulling those cars out just didn't make any sense whatsoever.

  • @martinpashain9222

    It was a shame that this sink hole happened, one would think that the ground was investigated before building was built to have all the weight on such a part of the collapse & putting old expensive luxury sports cars on the floor & in time a sink hole develops? One would think or say has the ground been perked to make sure this would never happen, it was smart that GM had a camera system installed in different angles to view what happened at night when the place was locked up & closed to view these happenings, It is another think that so many cars were almost lost forever. The earth under ground must have a lot of lime & chemicals to ruin these vehicles the way it did? It is nice to be able to see the recovery efforts of the people involved to this under going project. My hats off to GM & everyone involved in getting these vehicles out of the sink hole grave!

    • @DaddytechEnt
      @DaddytechEnt  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Martin Pashain yeah the ground was originally perked but a lot of other local construction has changed things and i believe some of the other construction caused the sinkhole to develop under the floor like that. this whole area is on one of the largest deep under ground cave systems in the world. What troubles me is that there wasn't more Metal mesh or rebar in the floor and that the concrete was only 4" thick personally i think it shouldn't have been any less than 6" with the metal mesh or lots of rebar in it but evidently it wasn't initially supposed to be a vehicle museum.

    How did that sink hole develop? Obviously they built the building on solid ground... right? That hole is massive!

    • @DaddytechEnt
      @DaddytechEnt  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The WKU Geologists said there was some underground caverns that developed due to erosion right underneath the museum dome. i have another video on here that shows that just outside of the dome there is a drain off basin that is pretty close to the same depth of the erosion inside the dome. my theory is that due to that run off basin and all of the blasting and heavy equipment that was being used on the other side of the interstate to build the motor sports park AND a recent 100 year flood that we had it was just a trifecta that excellerated the under ground erosion and caused the ground to give way underneath the Dome foundation which was also not built correctly because there was no re-enforcing rebar in the concrete and the floor was also not more than 3 1/2" thick in most places. take away ANY of those factors and that cave in might have been delayed to a time when the museum was being visited by people and lives would have been lost as well as the hundreds of thousands of dollars of one of a kind corvettes.

      the last one out the Mallet hammer for starters, it's an accordian now. The Black ZR1 spider is another it was a 1 of 1 experimental and to me personally the best looking out of all of them originally. The 84 Pace car was also a 1 of 1. They were also mentioning they may not be putting the 1.5 millionth corvette back together either but they weren't sure since it wasn't going to be a road worthy car if they were going to do that or not.
      here look at the live skydome 1 camera you can see all the ones they are not repairing in a pen on the left.

      Yes. And sinkholes can develop many years after a building is built on solid ground. Certain types of geology are more susceptible to sinkhole development, and that is often indicated by the geotechnical engineer's report. But as with any type of disaster, it's a matter of statistics. Millions of buildings are built on sinkhole-susceptible earth and will never see one develop beneath them. This building just got lucky.

    GM design team has and is rebuilding all of the cars and are trying to use as much of the original material as possible. They debuted one of the rebuilds at the Detroit Grand Prix at the Camaro club car show a few days before the race. It might inspire them to come up with new vehicle designs in the future by looking at some of the stuff from the past.

    I did the tour of the museum last month. Had about 12 Vette's in the entry for people purchasing one and picking it up there. Yes cost extra from what I can tell about $8,000 extra. Of those at least 8 were Z06's. Youngest person picking up one and there were about 4-6 people picking them up was guessing 60yo. Funny that these people in their 60's and up are buying Z06's. Then I hear a story of a 70 something year old dieing in his Vette cause he couldn't figure out which button on the door to open the door. Makes you wonder.

    like corvettes as a sports car.i owned a 79 pace car but hate 90% of the douchebags that own them. I mean seriously ...buy a high performance car then do 30mph in a 45mph zone...fucking brilliant. I out drove one in my 02 Subaru impreza wagon for Christ sake...owner didn't know how to handle his high horsepower in the twisty bits. here is a suggestion for all you folks that don't truly know how to handle a car like this...buy a prius. just because you can afford a 80k sports car don't mean you deserve to own one

Anyone who dreams of a Corvette their entire life and for whatever reason is unable to get one until they are in their 60s or 70s, deserves to drive it however they wish. Life got in the way for me for 50 years but I finally got mine a month ago. I'm 63, and yes, I can handle it, 7-speed manual transmission and all, but sometimes it's nice to just go slow and savor it.

      no this whole area is bedrock and there are caverns and caves all under it so just any minute you might see people's homes or cars or whatever just disappear because the dirt has worked it's way loose or one of the caverns shifted and opened up a hole here. i personally believe this was caused by all of the work being done across the highway from the museum at the motor sports park (corvette racetrack) it was just being built when all of this happened and i don't think the two things happening at the same time are just a coincidence.

      Do you not realize some of these cars are one of''s they can't simply be replaced. some of these rare cars are never going to get repaired because the museum has to pay for them to be repaired. it was at 5:30 am that it happened of course no one was hurt it just hurts me when I see some one not realize that these were some ones car that they donated to the museum and they aren't getting there car back or are they getting any money from it I get it yes a car can mostly be replaced unless it's a one of or experimental car. Yes I get people can't be replaced but these cars can't be replaced and people who haven't gone there before the sinkhole will only see those cars in perfect order in pictures with is sad for some because these are pieces oh history you can't just go Mack another one

      this is true too. like the 84 pace car (1 of 1) the 95 ZR1Spyder (experimental 1of1) the Mallet Hammer (could be rebuilt but it would cost a small fortune) most of the rest of them there are parts that can be used from others to fix them. BTW the Museum had insurance on all of those cars, the insurance is who pays to fix them, not the museum

      actually that's not true for the fact that they are as fast as they are they are made VERY well. that's the allure with corvettes they are fast sturdy stable on the road unless you're just being completely wreckless and built well enough to protect you in the event of a serious accident.

      Just because you may not share the same opinion as me does not make it an "ignorant statement" and all but 3 of those cars fared pretty well considering how far they actually fell. also not All of them had tons of concrete on top of them in fact only 3 were actually covered up by concrete and hard red clay. and 4 of them just went into the hole and weren't even covered up with dirt. Now what part of that is as you call it "ignorant"? Unlike you i've maintained an open mind till i hear your take on this and even if yours ends up being the ignorant opinion, i don't usually tell people that in as inconsiderate of a manner as what you just did. i'd appreciate it if you showed me and my channel at least SOME respect.
