  • I can never get tired of Japanese Beef Bowl. What's more, it's so easy to cook. Just go for thinly sliced beef meant for sukiyaki or shabu shabu and this dish will be perfect.

      Yippee! So happy to know you enjoyed this recipe. We got the beef frozen from our neighbourhood supermarket. We used frozen beef slices to be used in shabu shabu or sukiyaki. Hope this helps.

    There are no asian grocery stores where I live so I used thin sliced ribeye for philly cheesesteaks, and chicken stock instead of dashi. It was pretty good! I'm sure it would be better if I had all the right ingredients but still a nice departure from the norm. Thanks for the tutorial!

    Hi i dont have acces to mirin and daishi stock. Is there anything that i can substitute with?

      You can use white rice wine and add some sugar to replace mirin. As for stock, you can use chicken stock. Happy cooking

    Hi, great videos. I tried to follow the video with the following differences: 1. self-made dashi with bonito flakes and no seaweed 2. thin slides of ribeyes. 3. Added sugar. It tasted like boiled beef with a minor salted and sweet taste. I am missing the very sweet taste - may be sweet onion taste? What did I do wrong? Thanks. B.

    Tried this though I didn't use Japanese soya sauce. Thought the dish tasted quite one dimensional and needs to be sweeter to taste more like Yoshinoya's.

      Hihi. These are sukiyaki beef - beef cut thinly mainly used for sukiyaki. We can easily get that from supermarket in Singapore. Not sure if you can get it from your local supermarket though.

    This is so wrong. Gyudon is not fried. It's boiled beef. This may be a tasty dish but it is not the real thing.
