DJI Mavic 3 Pro Review - King of Drones with Even More Cameras

  • DJI Mavic 3 Pro has just released April 25, 2023, with even more cameras. The whole Mavic 3 line is the best drone out right now, unreal quality. So long as it has the 5.1K 4/3" Hasselblad I am happy with it. Telephoto lens has been improved and the newer medium one has a 3/4" sensor 4K 60fps.
Yes it uses the same batteries
Yes it is heavier (958g vs. 895g)
Long Zoom lens is improved and brighter aperture
No it isn't using a worse main camera
Yes uses the same props, same body, same everything except the ND Filters
    New features:
    A 3x telephoto lens obviously
A bit better connection behind buildings/trees
43 minute flight time (-3 minutes less)
    3/4" f2.8 4K sensor on 3x telephoto lens
    7x telephoto f3.4 instead of f4.4
Dlog-M has been added as halfway between DLog and Normal
1tb internal hard drive, Apple Prores, All cameras Prores, DJI RC Pro - ONLY ON CINE version
8gb internal hard drive incase you forget your crap
5.1k H.265 footage, internal hard drive (except for small 8gb)
    Hasselblad 4/3" sensor f2.8
    4K 60fps
    10-bit Dlog, HLG, Dlog-M
    20mp 12-bit RAW format photos
    Night Mode video
    Omni Directional Obstacle Avoidance
    Hyperlapse (now with preview)
    Active Track
    43 minute flight time
Same length but girthy head (958g)
Important stuff stays the same - firmware/sensor exposure balancing, beautiful m4/3 Hasselblad 5.1k Sensor, just the best you can find out there right now. Everything you like is still here, some new fun features like a telephoto lens
    5.1k Camera - 24mm lens equivalent
    3x telephoto - 77mm lens equivalent
    7x telephoto - 166mm lens equivalent
Great ISO on this drone, still usable up to ISO 800 without really noticing thanks to a larger sensor and better firmware.
This is for the person who has been waiting for the Mavic 3 but procrastinates, here is your reward. A Mavic 3 Definitive Edition with all the kinks out the way and some neat bonuses.
    $2199 USD Drone + RC
$2999 USD Drone + RC Combo
$3889 USD Drone + RC Pro combo
$4799 USD CINE Drone + RC Pro combo
    click.dji.com/AClchSDRvdrmk6I...
Just get a second battery and ND filters and you'll be fine. REALLY suggest the DJI RC smart remote too, wildly helpful to the experience. Makes it way more fun, either smart remote is great just get one.

3x lens is 70mm. Original Mavic 3 with two lenses isn't available anymore on DJI website. There is no need to have a full frame camera on a compact drone. The quality of the lens is what matters the most. For example OM-1 has a micro four thirds sensor and the image quality is stunning. I rather that a good MFT lens than a bad full frame lens, any day

You will never see full frame on a Mavic body. At a push they may be able to go up to aps-c but at this point its diminishing returns and extra focal lengths are more useful for most photographers and cinematographers than a slightly larger sensor. But you knew this when you said it and it got me to comment so you sir are a genius 😂 great vid

I share videos with my children and their families and having the videos running on the large digital frame in my home. But I love to fly as much as I like to capture images, and as a result, I want “just one more drone” before the angels come to take me away. (Age 74 and still quite agile.) An Air 3 this year, or if it does not appear, a Mavic 3 Classic. Cheers, young man.

Hi bro. It's worth noting that there's an important difference between the Mavic 3 Pro and the other Mavic 3's, and that's the label. It has a C2-label instead of C1. That's here in Europe anyway. It means that I can't fly over people with the new Mavic 3 Pro, but I can with the other Mavic 3's. Anyways, I love your videos. Bye.

So it looks like the lineup is the Mavic 3 Pro and the Mavic 3 Classic. With the pricing starting at $2199, it appears that DJI just replaced the original Mavic 3 line.

Yeah Prores makes huge files, it's all I frames so each frame contains 100% of the information. This also makes for much easier editing because all the information is available in each frame. With 1 TB of storage you can still record a couple + hours of Prores 4K, totally worth it in my opinion. Love your videos! Cheers man 🍻

They're already in archival form, just copy the .mov files to where ever you backup. Hard drives are cheap. You either want the best quality you can get or you want the smallest file size, but you can't have both.

Your reviews are fantastic, all the meat and potatoes without the fluff.
Personally I only need a true full frame sensor for those early dawn, twilight, and night shots. I am not interested in any telephoto lenses, if I want to get a zoomed image/closer image I can just fly the drone closer to what I am trying to capture and get a higher quality image from the significantly higher quality full frame sensor.
What do you think about using the less expensive controller with a ipad for exceptional image quality and having the screen Infront of the controller where it is more intuitive vs between your wrists where your wrists may obscure part of the screen?

Great review as always - I have a Mavic 3 and I'm considering upgrading to the Pro; one thing I haven't seen answerred in reviews is wether you can use Point of Interest mode or shoot Mastershots in 5.1K with the upgraded Pro model ? With the standard I felt a bit short-changed that all the marketing pushed the 5K spec; but then so many of the intelligent flight modes and features were locked-out leading to my shooting entirely in 4K. 5K would offer more flexibility for digital stabilization and re-framing with Point of Interest orbiting shots in particular this would be ideal. If anyone could clarify this I would hugely appreciate it.

I’m still confused from what I’ve seen if the mavic 3 including these will do waypoints. Ideally Litchi would be able to fly them as it has some built in features to visualize the flight before getting out in the field. Any input on the status of waypoints? Thank you so much, you will love the mini 3, way less stressful and much quieter. They will all be pretty noisy and drive up anxiety as soon as it’s 100 feet away and you’re in public, but the mini 3 is a lot less big of a deal. And it’s photography so it really doesn’t matter as much as video, it still does raw format photos. So it’s way more up to the photographer than the equipment. I see photos posted all the time that you cannot tell that they weren’t shot on a bigger drone. Mini 3 is insane bang for the buck.

Dlog-M let’s you do ISO 100 but the sensor naturally operates at ISO 400. When you shoot DLOG you just use what the sensor is most efficient at naturally, so it just seems weird but it’s cleaner in the end that way

Would you say the inspire 3 is a good purchase? I would use all of the features, but I’m curious as to if something better will come out in the future.

Of course something better will come in the future but it won't be from DJI, anytime soon. If your business model can justify the price then go for it. If you have that kind of money to spend then maybe also consider the Sony Airpeak or Freefly to get away from geofencing. They would also give you more camera and lens options then the inspire 3.

Would it be overkill getting Mavic 3 pro for still? With that big sensor.

I can tell as long as he has the Mavic 3 Pro, he won't bother with an Inspire 3. Honestly i'm also tempted to buy this drone, it's surprisingly not as expensive as I expected it to be, I was expecting near 6 - 8k USD

Mavic 4 would most likely have a 24MP or 30MP APS sized sensor if they decide to outgrow the M4/3 sensor.

alex i just got the mavic 3 classic and in dlog its iso autos at 400 and wont go any lower. i've always color graded dlog in the 2s and mini 3 and used iso 100-200, but i can only get iso 100 in normal mode on the mavic. 400 seems silly high during the day and noticed yours was 400 in a bright day... do you know why this is? i can see why it is good in twilight but too high in daylight i would have thought. would you say shoot in normal during the day and leave dlog for night and sunsets?

When shooting Dlog you go by that sensors ISO, like what it operates at naturally. Like if a car had a gear that’s most fuel efficient
It seems funky but it’s the cleanest don’t worry.
Again you want to shoot a bit brighter on the exposure meter as well
I use normal mode all the time, dlog is for when a client requested it or a REALLY crazy lighting situation like Morter fire in the rain during sunset
Dlog takes practice too, easy to mess up coloring. I’d just stick to normal

@@QuickAssTutorialsi see... thanks for the break down. when i grade dlog i use luts at half opacity and further grade them but if i can get better results in normal with this thing then i'll do that for sure and save time and effort.
