It is not clear why anyone would expect the remote controller to allow the drone to fly farther when the limiting factor is the battery on the drone. A better test would be in a radio interference situation whether the additional transmitter and receiver capability allows to operate when there's interference. The RC range can be very limited in urban environments where there's interference.
A few things to add. The pro battery is 7.2 volt over the 3.6 of the rec. at similar mah capacity, that’s almost double the power. The pro transmits at 33db power vs 26 on the rc. That’s over double again. The drone distance doesn’t matter in an open space, but get around a city and you have a much better chance of keeping signal, especially behind bridges. The pro’s ability to run multiple apps does come in handy, especially when using a hotspot (think B4UFLY or LAANC).

Have you seen the comparison that those phones overheat and drop their brightness or that the combined weight is double or more? I decided to go with the RC.
Another important difference, that most people miss, is the internal cooling system. The DJI RC uses passive cooling and only has a heatsink, while the RC Pro has an active system that uses a heatsink / fan. This is very important for long flights and hot environments where the controller can overheat. When it does, the DJI RC will force dim the screen and have the exact same issue that people experience with the RC-N1 and smartphone. And as you pointed out the screen is dimmer than the RC Pro to begin with, at just 700nits or 30% less than the RC Pro. The RC Pro, on the other hand, can ramp up a fan to prevent overheating and should never have this problem. The price you pay, of course, is the extra drain on battery and weight of the cooling system.

Excelente video! One thing that is important to mention - NO LIVE STREAMING for the DJI RC Controller (not sure about the PRO). I have the Mavic 3 Classic with the DJI RC and it doesn't allow Live Streaming. Whatsoever. Nope. Nada. Maybe the Pro allows that via the HDMI out. DJI could perfectly allow HDMI out via one of the USB-C ports.
Well, Jeremy, it's 2 years later and you may have gotten additional pros for the Pro! I had the RC with my M3Pro and the range wasn't that much of an issue. Why would the controller have an affect on the onboard battery of the drone??? I fly for business in urban as well as forest areas, where buildings and trees interfere with the signal. I was shocked that the RC, lost a bar when I had to turn around from the sun, to create a shade to see the screen on the RC... When I turned towards the drone again, signal came back. So, I got myself the RC Pro, and there is not only a better signal strength, but also a faster processor, and other perks. I am more confident now getting on a job, because the signal issue has caused me to lose several Mavic 2 Pro's over the years.
''NOT A DRUG SCALE'' best scale ever seen on yt. Anyways, the RC-PRO looks more aggressive and thought built than the DJI RC but for 900$, the best would be to buy camera gear or a second drone or battery pack/accessories.
The extra antennas should not be judged on the range, as most of us are limited to VLOS, but rather the ability to stay connected in challenging situations, such as other RF interference or obstacles.
You're testing this on an open area without any terrain, hills, mountains. The $300 controller will lose your drone around a hill whereas the RC Pro (due to its directional antennas) will keep your signal intact. I lost my drone in terrain with the basic controller, but the RC Pro was able to bring my other drone back in the same exact environment.
Great review and comparison. I think in an open space it'll be nearly the same range and the pro would do much better in the city where there is more interference. That's my guess. Either way 900 is way too much.
The old DJI Phantom 3 Pro changing the module behind the Remote Control you get HDMI mini connector and I can fly with Fat Shark goggles (Used for my Racer drones and FPV planes) only I connect the cable directly to the HDMI input of the Fat Shark Goggles . The old DJI Inspire 1 already comes from the factory with the connector and it is very interesting, because when flying only seeing the mobile iPhone in hot areas and with a lot of sun, the mobile iPhone screen completely darkens and you have to return the Drone RTH, with goggles and allows you to return without problems. The question NOBODY HAS ANSWERED ME is...Will it be possible to get the signal from this Pro Remote Control to Fat Shark goggles in the same way without using RCA cables? THXS
Can you connect the dji rc to a adapter that changes it from type c to hdmi port or usb and it would still display on that secondary screen, ive done this from a phone to use for a projector
There is one difference is the right hand scroll wheel on the RC PRO can do smooth zooms and on the RC it can not do smooth zooms. It does hard incremental changes in the zoom.
The rc controller can also do smooth zooms you might have to change your scroll settings as I’m able to control zoom smoothly on my air 2s and mini 3 pro
For clarity please keep in mind the following.. 1.There are three DJI controllers with built in screens. a The DJI Pro (Mini 3 Pro compatible) b. The DJI "smart controller" early version Not compatible with the mini 3 Pro c. The new smart controller that is an option with the DJI Mini 3 PRO called the DJI RC Keep in mind that the range on the controllers A and B can be increased significantly by attaching range extenders to the antennas which is NOT possible on the new DJI RC "C" However please note that the DJI "Smart Controller" is no longer available and no longer supported by DJI and is NOT listed in the DJI Firmware support page which is worrying as this controller is currently an option in a package with the DJI Air 2S. (Currently out of stock as of today19/08/2022) This means DJI are currently selling the smart controller with the DJI Air 2S that DJI NO LONGER SUPPORT!!
your video is so incredibly professional produced and in the end u simply forgot to mention the 2 buttons on the top that the Pro has and the Non Pro has not.... and i wonder what the right button can do?
Hey Jeremy. Great video, but i have to agree with some of the fellows here! This doesn't look a real scenario world. With my mini 3 pro and the RC combo, I can't reach 3km away. It is a nightmare! They loose signal very quickly. My mavic pro 1 could do almost 3km with no problem, buildings, cliffs, trees. Mini 3 pro and Dji-Rc is kinda a joke! =/
Thanks for testing, but u forget a lot of stuff, probably u can NOT Download 4k Video from Drone to the DJI RC only RC Pro support this, also mastershot editing only on RC Pro, the booting/start time is a lot faster on RC Pro, the option to rearrange the Antennas are also very important on RC u have to face to the drone and hold the controller directly to the drone, the delay in responsive in fly is also lagging on RC the RC Pro has a much less delay in transmitting controlling signals, the video quality in live view is a lot better on RC Pro, the RC does lag in UI using a lot more - the RC PRO does this not... and so on very important things! I have both controller and can confirm this ! The RC is a great Controller BUT for Professional usecase the RC Pro is ure choice u have to go. The RC is more a good toy with some important less performance compare to the RC PRO. For daily Hobby/Flying filming the RC is a good choice! But when u first time fly with the RC Pro and recognize the less delay in controller signal transmitting and the much better quality in live stream u don't want to use the rc often anymore ;)
Question: I have a shutter lag with the Rc and a Mini 3 Pro. Seems to be between a half second and just over a second. Does the RC Pro solve that problem? I’m a still shooter and have missed moving objects because of the shutter lag. Thanks’
My natural assumption is there would be less chance of interference in crowed spaces. In open areas the battery is gonna is gonna limit you. Did you use to long range battery
People in the EU with CE certification will most likely only experience 2km. Everyone else not in the EU, with FCC certification will get closer to our results.
The range test was not a range test, but I understand no wanting to loose your drone to the wild. Perhaps flying in a area where signal strength can be affected by neighboring signals like a dense city or down town? I know for me my range noticeably drops when flying downtown
If that is the standard operating procedure of flying a drone, sending it out and never to have it return, we will gladly perform that test. But seeing that most viewers want to have their drone return to them, our test was meant to highlight what’s the difference between the two controllers during standard operation on a clear day in a wide open field. And we think that this is a much valuable information for our viewers.
@@JeremyToh lol he’s right. It was purely only a battery life test. All you confirmed is a $300 controller and $1200 controller preform the exact same within the allotted flight time. If the $300 controller cut out at 4km and the $1200 one went way further then your point would make sense but battery life limited your ability to actually test the controllers making the test pointless.

Thank you just saved me a lot of $$$
错了,DJI RC 的图传录屏分辨率是480P....
For clarity please keep in mind the following..
1.There are three DJI controllers with built in screens.
a The DJI Pro (Mini 3 Pro compatible)
b. The DJI "smart controller" early version Not compatible with the mini 3 Pro
c. The new smart controller that is an option with the DJI Mini 3 PRO called the DJI RC
Keep in mind that the range on the controllers A and B can be increased significantly by attaching range extenders to the antennas which is NOT possible on the new DJI RC "C"
However please note that the DJI "Smart Controller" is no longer available and no longer supported by DJI and is NOT listed in the DJI Firmware support page which is worrying as this controller is currently an option in a package with the DJI Air 2S. (Currently out of stock as of today19/08/2022)
This means DJI are currently selling the smart controller with the DJI Air 2S that DJI NO LONGER SUPPORT!!
I agree with the concerns about the Smart Controller. I am using mine with the Mavic Air 2s. It works great, but I am stuck with it and the 2s.
your video is so incredibly professional produced and in the end u simply forgot to mention the 2 buttons on the top that the Pro has and the Non Pro has not.... and i wonder what the right button can do?
Hello 👋 which of these controllers work over USB with tablets? I have Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 with a 12 inch display I would like to use it for flying.
Will the Pro ever be compatible with the mini 3 pro?
Thank mate for this info.
that hdmi out is very important for some people who want to cover live events,DJI knows that hence they kept the price high
amazine vid. thanks!
Thanks’
@@kevinnadeaneudaly2553 on RC Pro u will not have this lag.
It's not worth the extra money though
My natural assumption is there would be less chance of interference in crowed spaces. In open areas the battery is gonna is gonna limit you. Did you use to long range battery
How do you get 10x more distance than others who say they reach about 2km?
People in the EU with CE certification will most likely only experience 2km. Everyone else not in the EU, with FCC certification will get closer to our results.
try signal strength in a city with tall buildings, see which one looses signal by distance.
Why not get the nc controller and connect it to an iPad with some extension cable?
for the distace test why didnt you switch to sports mode ?
tks for the show!
tks!
Excellent vid.. thank you
Glad you enjoyed it
The range test was not a range test, but I understand no wanting to loose your drone to the wild.
Perhaps flying in a area where signal strength can be affected by neighboring signals like a dense city or down town? I know for me my range noticeably drops when flying downtown
This was not a range test of the controller, it was based on the battery range of the drone itself.
@@JeremyToh how about urban setting? Who will have more penetration?
@@JeremyToh lol he’s right. It was purely only a battery life test. All you confirmed is a $300 controller and $1200 controller preform the exact same within the allotted flight time. If the $300 controller cut out at 4km and the $1200 one went way further then your point would make sense but battery life limited your ability to actually test the controllers making the test pointless.
So true enough said. Battery test.
Great informative video. Really liked it 👍. Also agree it doesn't fully show the real potential differences in the controllers though
