I have a theory about the 80s: It's like the top of the rollercoaster where songwriting and technology converged for the first time. The result was this explosion of creativity. Access to drums machines by Roger Linn and others + sampling technology like the Emu and Akai. To me the 80's are the absolute apex of human musical freedom. For the first time we were allowed to make the music in our heads and it was glorious. For that brief moment, it made human life more colorful and alive in ways that we're still trying to re-create.
I think you're right. There were synthetic sounds prior to the 80's, but they really stand out, like Giorgio Moroder/Donna Summer and of course Kraftwerk. It wasn't until the beginning of the decade that people really started experimenting with it... and now, it's just so ubiquitous, kids don't even know there was a different way of doing things once.
I'm so utterly grateful I grew up in the 80's. Everything about the 80's is phenomenal. Especially, the music. Nothing to this day can compare! As I tell my mother who loves Elvis " the 80's music is to me what Elvis was to you as a teen ". She understands now.
wanna know who I saw live in the 1980s in Philly at the Spectrum or in Jersey - Sugar Hill Gang, Billy Idol, The Cure, Tito Puente, Gladys Knight, Prince, Bad Brains, Butthole Surfers, Ashford and Simpson, Stevie Wonder, Stephanie Mills, Madonna, New Order, Cinderella, Van Halen, Dionne Warwick, Spoonie and the Treacherous Three, Earth, Wind and Fire, Rick James, Teena Marie, U2. we were soooo lucky, every genre had original talent
I was at a Star Trek Con right around the time this was released. Leonard Nimoy was the major guest. During his Q&A someone in the crowd asked him if he had heard this song and his simple answer was to lean close to the microphone and say, "PURE ENERGY". The crowd went nuts!

Every club in the mid to late 80’s played this tune because it emboldened the people onto the dance floor. A timeless tune. They don’t write them like that anymore. Wish you all could have seen the energy and excitement that this song generated. Enjoy!
Biggest 80's dance tune was "Blue Monday" by New Order. Think it still holds record for most singles sold. They butchered the Hell out of it remixing and remixing, but thats what sold records. For me its more personal, the original, I heard, was paying homage to former Joy Division Bandmate Ian Curtis.
You got that right! There are some songs mixed by Raja Ram that will bring people to the dance floor! Check out "Raja Ram" and "TIP World" (Psy Trance/Full on)!!!!
Secretly loved this song as a metalhead teen. I would crank it up whenever it came on the radio, as long as my friends werent around. Reminds me of another great band, the Human League
We were supposed to see heavy metal as “white devil music”, but we watched video and variety shows that had fun songs by Twisted Sister. I found out about more bands thanks to my metal head friends and Star Hits magazine 😁
As a metalhead I kind of have a soft spot for old synth pop even if not all of it has held up, I find it great and revolutionary on a level that no matter what clique or person you were we got pretty bloody good synth pop.

The bar was set very high...you really had to do something special to get noticed. That being said, I do think a lot of the 80's sounds and melodies have come back in modern music.
This is one of those songs that was a substrate of the 80's. No one knew when it came out or who sang it, it was always just there playing constantly at clubs & the beach or wherever people were having a good time. It felt like it had been playing your whole life and that it would play forever..
David B I turned 18 in 1981, and the music and Clubs were incredible ! I'm gonna get the same hair cut as the lead singer... The 80's can never be duplicated, there will never be another decade like the 80's.......
David B. I was 14 when this song came out and I have always loved this song, the songs today just don’t have this quality, the bass in this song is incredible! Takes me right back to a decade I miss! I have the memories at least and can always play the great music! 👍🏼
I miss the experimental mindset in music and the lack of self-consciousness. It felt like bands were encouraged to explore, and take risks, which could make for really unique and fun songs. (Sigh), I miss so much about the 80’s too.
That's cuz Minnesotans talk different than the rest of us. They have their own unique accent. I had a bad experience with a Minnesotan which made me naturally not want to like any of them but I'm sure they're not all bad.
These people knew what rocking in the 80s was all about. 80s perfection with a lyrical beat that stays in your head for days after hearing it. A home run of a song....
Saw them live the other night and the singer had me in stitches. Incredible live energy from the band and highly entertaining. Don’t sleep on this tour.
I remember when this song came out-I LOVED it !!! And still do. LOL. I'm a black guy growing up in an all black neighborhood in Philly and my neighborhood was very-BAD !!! Couldn't be caught listening to anything but rap,r & B,soul music. If you did, that was your &&& !!! So I'd listen at home with ear-phones on,pop,rock,etc,etc,..
I remember they were invited to the Rock & Rio festival and their performance was super amazing one of the best shows I have ever seen in my life. The vocalist appeared with skates and 200K people were jumping and head banging with the rythym of this song. this memory will stay with me forever.
The 1980s - a decade of amazing achievements in art, music, film, video technology, New Wave Rock, Techno, Trance... what a great time to be young and on the cutting edge of it all..."pure energy"...two words sampled from Leonard Nimoy as Spock.
didnt know that was a spock sample - just amped my appreciation of it up times 10! who ever thought of that is genius. the sample makes it sooo boss. one of my favorites songs all time - afro american hip hop dj from back in the day 80s-90s
The 80s were phenomenal when it comes to music. This brilliant song was not a hit here in the UK for some weird reason. I can only assume the record label didn't want to spend any money promoting it overseas and that was a big mistake because there was SO MUCH good music being released in the UK at the time and the only way for a new act to get their foot in the door was to come over here and compete for attention from the music industry. I've been watching a lot of these old Information Society videos recently and I would have loved Kurt in their heyday. The charisma, talent and cuteness... The camera loved him but he comes across as socially awkward, bless him. I wouldn't be surprised if he was/is on the autism spectrum. My nephew has Asperger's Syndrome and I can see the same sort of behaviour in him.
Possibly or just a bit eccentric. Not uncommon with songwriters or musicians in general. Kurt's still alive and kicking though and busy with music and audio engineering. Mainly video games. Which is cool.
Here I am in silence Looking round without a clue I find myself along again All alone with you I can see behind your eyes The things that I don't know If you hide away from me How can our love grow I wanna know What you're thinking There are some things you can't hide I wanna know What you're feeling Tell me what's on your mind I know I could break you down But what good would it do I could surely never know That what you say is true Here I am in silence It's a game I have to play You and I in silence With nothing else to say I wanna know What you're thinking There are some things you can't hide I wanna know What you're feeling Tell me…
And nobody pays attention to the thinly veiled satire of the shallowness of pop music. They had to be more overt in their subsequent album, "Peace and Love, Inc."
Think lyrics can help here: Here I am in silence Looking round without a clue I find myself along again All alone with you I can see behind your eyes The things that I don't know If you hide away from me How can our love grow I wanna know What you're thinking There are some things you can't hide I wanna know What you're feeling Tell me what's on your mind I know I could break you down But what good would it do I could surely never know That what you say is true Here I am in silence It's a game I have to play You and I in silence With nothing else to say I wanna know What you're thinking There are some things you can't hide I wanna know What you're feeling Tell me…
Not to mention a sampled Dr. McCoy from Start Trek at the start of the song and sampled Mr. Spock saying "Pure Energy" throughout the song, which really made it a hit. Thanks, Leonard Nimoy!
1988... Eu tinha 16 anos!
They were so tech savvy that encoded a message into one of their albums I think using some kind of binary code with another code or something crazy like that.
That bass still gives me goosebumps after too many years to mention. Yep, I'm the old fart driving through the neighborhood blasting the 80s. Proudly so!
yep, remember when the new Duran Duran Hungry Like a Wolf video came on, we all hit the fuckin roof singing our faces off and then came YO MTV Raps and Special Ed, Monie Love, Grandmaster Flash, Big Daddy Kane, oh it was sooooo good, add Bowie, Annie Lennox...special times
I initially thought that Information Society was a British band, until I found out later that they were from Minneapolis. This song sounds like it came from across the pond.
Yes, I agree Alexander. I thought the same, I thought that they must be British, or somewhere in Europe at least. When I discovered a bit later they were from the United States, and Minneapolis of all places, I was really surprised! Good you mentioned this. I thought initially it was either a Duran Duran song or a Depeche Mode song!
The good memories I have from listening to 80's music makes me wish we could all choose our favorite decade and go live in that time forever. I choose the 80s, with parachute pants and jelly shoes and Walkman players and cassette tapes and Streetside Records and Tower Records and Golden Girls and big hair and awesome music and every other glorious thing about it. Man, those were some great times.
80s music videos were wild. We had no idea what should be in a music video. People making them had no idea what to put in them and the audience had no idea what to expect. Everything was on the table
This song is one of the many examples of why New Wave is awesome and timeless music. These bands were rarely played on mainstream radio! They combined dance music with rock. Outstanding!
Kkkkkkk Que louca! Kkkkkk

This is one of those songs that was a substrate of the 80's. No one knew when it came out or who sang it, it was always just there playing constantly at clubs & the beach or wherever people were having a good time. It felt like it had been playing your whole life and that it would play forever..
The Children of the 80's thank you for posting!
Yeahhhhhhhh
David B I turned 18 in 1981, and the music and Clubs were incredible ! I'm gonna get the same hair cut as the lead singer... The 80's can never be duplicated, there will never be another decade like the 80's.......
David B. I was 14 when this song came out and I have always loved this song, the songs today just don’t have this quality, the bass in this song is incredible! Takes me right back to a decade I miss! I have the memories at least and can always play the great music! 👍🏼
You are welcome !
Ken Bray wait till 2080.
This is clearly one of The Greatest Songs of the entire 1980's. No question about it man.
In the 80s, we wondered what was on people's mind.. since the invent of social media.. we wish we didn't know!
@Mastema where they to destroy the internet how would you access these great videos?
Dam right on that one.. I'm tired of hearing all the crap on peoples minds. lol Lets go back to the 80s and dance and battle our differences out..lol

You ain't neva lied!
I agree with what you've said and liked the"hold a jock strap" and will be using it! Thanks!
🤣❤️
How dare you compare a jock strap to The Garbage On the Radio !!
word up
Listening to this song today in 2021 has made me so nostalgic for the 1980s that I've started to cry.
Same here
Same.😢😢
It really was special!
I totally agree. Those were the days
I miss the experimental mindset in music and the lack of self-consciousness. It felt like bands were encouraged to explore, and take risks, which could make for really unique and fun songs.
(Sigh), I miss so much about the 80’s too.
Man I thought they were British but come to find out they are from Minneapolis. I love this song!
@@se1775 Yeah they are from Minneapolis Minnesota here in the US.
I also thought they were British. To me, the lead singer's voice sounds remarkably similar to Depeche Mode.
LOL same here!
I'm from Minneapolis and most people here don't know they were from Minneapolis.
Summerfest?
I remember they were invited to the Rock & Rio festival and their performance was super amazing one of the best shows I have ever seen in my life. The vocalist appeared with skates and 200K people were jumping and head banging with the rythym of this song. this memory will stay with me forever.
The 1980s - a decade of amazing achievements in art, music, film, video technology, New Wave Rock, Techno, Trance...
what a great time to be young and on the cutting edge of it all..."pure energy"...two words sampled from Leonard Nimoy as Spock.
Generation X..the best generation!
Love this too much!!😍😍👏👏👊👊🤘🤘
didnt know that was a spock sample - just amped my appreciation of it up times 10! who ever thought of that is genius. the sample makes it sooo boss. one of my favorites songs all time - afro american hip hop dj from back in the day 80s-90s
Paul Hardcastle "19" !
@padams24 Anything pre 9-11 was awesome. Humanity became less human after that.
@@funkster007 Thanks for the info.

Here I am in silence
Looking round without a clue
I find myself along again
All alone with you
I can see behind your eyes
The things that I don't know
If you hide away from me
How can our love grow
I wanna know
What you're thinking
There are some things you can't hide
I wanna know
What you're feeling
Tell me what's on your mind
I know I could break you down
But what good would it do
I could surely never know
That what you say is true
Here I am in silence
It's a game I have to play
You and I in silence
With nothing else to say
I wanna know
What you're thinking
There are some things you can't hide
I wanna know
What you're feeling
Tell me…
No one knows what im thinking...lol
Thank you.😺
Perhaps, perhaps, in another 100-200 years, you may come across another 1980s. The best era hands down.
This song will never die...pure energy never dies.
Fun, positive, no curse words; relatable, part punk, part rock, pure genius. Feel-good therapy!
Also hit the club and dance scene. That bass still thumps⚡
They were considered New Wave. I loved all the great New Wave groups of the 80's.
fuck that

And nobody pays attention to the thinly veiled satire of the shallowness of pop music. They had to be more overt in their subsequent album, "Peace and Love, Inc."

Oi Luis Felipe vc tem a tradução dessa música?
Thanks felipe👍
Not to mention a sampled Dr. McCoy from Start Trek at the start of the song and sampled Mr. Spock saying "Pure Energy" throughout the song, which really made it a hit. Thanks, Leonard Nimoy!
This is absolutely one of my most famous videos from the period, and one of the most amazing performances and amazing performers.
1988... Eu tinha 16 anos!

If one can compare wine vintages to decades in a century . The 80’s vintage was a masterpiece.
They were so tech savvy that encoded a message into one of their albums I think using some kind of binary code with another code or something crazy like that.
Here because we love the 80s music.
That bass still gives me goosebumps after too many years to mention. Yep, I'm the old fart driving through the neighborhood blasting the 80s. Proudly so!

The 80's were the best decade for music, as a teenager in the 80's I know. God I miss the music.
Eh I would have to say the 70s actually
@steelchronicles We're talking about when the music was created, not when it became free lol
I would say the 90s personally.
Who remembers when mtv actually showed music videos

yep, remember when the new Duran Duran Hungry Like a Wolf video came on, we all hit the fuckin roof singing our faces off and then came YO MTV Raps and Special Ed, Monie Love, Grandmaster Flash, Big Daddy Kane, oh it was sooooo good, add Bowie, Annie Lennox...special times

God i remember going to the dance clubs in the 80's and they always played this song. Great song to dance to with your Big Hair girlfriend.
They sound like Heaven 17

The good memories I have from listening to 80's music makes me wish we could all choose our favorite decade and go live in that time forever. I choose the 80s, with parachute pants and jelly shoes and Walkman players and cassette tapes and Streetside Records and Tower Records and Golden Girls and big hair and awesome music and every other glorious thing about it. Man, those were some great times.
and do not forget blockbusters and game rentals.
Invent a Time machine and I will go with you and who ever else wants to cone.
Right...
This came out too late to be New Wave. New Wave was roughly 1977-1984. Post-1985, we had synth pop and alternative rock
Some called it progressive new wave, and some called it alternative.
Definitely has the new wave sound
Sooo many labels! How about we just call it "Great Music?????"
Not a hit? The song peaked at #3 on the US BILLBOARD Hot 100 chart.
That is complete nonsense, this song spent 6 months on the Billboard Hot 100, and it peaked at #3. It sold half a million copies.
What’s on my mind, is this was when music was sooooo good! This is an epic, classic. Brings back great memories from the 80s. 💜🎶
