Lyrics:
Hot steamy night alone, I wait for you
Cold brittle morning alone, and I cried for you
And when you finally call
You cloak your moves in the shadows
Those days and nights I was good to you
They must not have meant very much to you
The night I needed you the most
My cries fell on deaf ears
And I'm running so hard to find it
And I'm running so fast
And I'm telling you now to leave me
Our romance cannot last
And if someday I need to see you
I'll come back from the past
I'll come back and find you
I'll never leave you now
Those days and nights I was good to you
They must not have meant very much to you
The night I needed you the most
My cries fell on deaf ears
Now I don't want to play games with you
But I don't know what to say to you
The digits change so slowly now
I'm going it alone
And I'm running so hard to find it
And I'm running so fast
And I'm telling you now to leave me
Our romance cannot last
And if someday I need to see you
I'll come back from the past
I'll come back and find you
I'll never leave you now
I'm so utterly grateful I grew up in the 80's. Everything about the 80's is phenomenal. Especially, the music. Nothing to this day can compare! As I tell my mother who loves Elvis " the 80's music is to me what Elvis was to you as a teen ". She understands now.
Maravilhoso

I doubt there will ever be another decade as great as the 80s. For those of us who grew up then we realize just how lucky we were.
1985-1995 was freakin' awesome!
Check out Voices Of Babylon by The Outfield.
You were just young, that's all. Every generation feels that way about its music.
@@TT-fq7pl Nope. The 80s is the most beloved decade of music. The 90s was mediocre overall. 2000 until now is absolute trash. Thanks for playing.
@@TT-fq7plTrue that.
Still, there was something magical about the 1980s.
Even now, this music is phenomenal!
Ultra-phenomenal.
This song aged well.

I have a theory about the 80s: It's like the top of the rollercoaster where songwriting and technology converged for the first time. The result was this explosion of creativity. Access to drums machines by Roger Linn and others + sampling technology like the Emu and Akai. To me the 80's are the absolute apex of human musical freedom. For the first time we were allowed to make the music in our heads and it was glorious. For that brief moment, it made human life more colorful and alive in ways that we're still trying to re-create.
I think you're right. There were synthetic sounds prior to the 80's, but they really stand out, like Giorgio Moroder/Donna Summer and of course Kraftwerk. It wasn't until the beginning of the decade that people really started experimenting with it... and now, it's just so ubiquitous, kids don't even know there was a different way of doing things once.
@@CBlargh And now AI will be making all music soon. No humans needed.
@@Wowzersdude-k5c Don't get me started on AI... It's way worse than many people realise. o_O
Plus MTV - music videos were a game changer. Crazy shit happened, recordings prove it.
Not much in the way of innovation really since. So called "workstations" don't cut it for me. I'm looking for new inspiring stuff..(?)
I was at a Star Trek Con right around the time this was released. Leonard Nimoy was the major guest. During his Q&A someone in the crowd asked him if he had heard this song and his simple answer was to lean close to the microphone and say, "PURE ENERGY". The crowd went nuts!

Was one of my favorite songs in 1988. Haven’t heard this song for years and immediately was able to sing along word for word.

The guy that says "pure energy" is Leonard Nimoy from Star Trek fame. His son got him to agree to let his voice to be included in this song. The group had been trying for a long time to get his permission....he just didn't know. He loved it. He especially liked the fact that it became a hit!
And the first line "It worked so far but ain't over yet" it's from Dr. McCoy on S02ep8...
Seems the band liked this answer
Actually the 3 voices you hear are Dr McCoy, Spock, and Kirk

'66/'84 here... I feel the same! Miss those days!
Same age as u-totally remember dancing to this in clubs with that smoke machine that would hit u in the face, causing u to start coughing...
'69/Class of '86. Not a day goes by that I don't listen to at least one song from Erasure or Duran Duran... my all-time favorite musical groups. I particularly love all the music that was coming from across the pond in the '80's. The Police. The Cure. The Smiths. Pet Shop Boys. Echo and The Bunnymen. Pure awesomeness!!!!
Class of 89, we had the BEST music! Sad that those days are never returning, but at least the music remains....

Secretly loved this song as a metalhead teen. I would crank it up whenever it came on the radio, as long as my friends werent around. Reminds me of another great band, the Human League
We were supposed to see heavy metal as “white devil music”, but we watched video and variety shows that had fun songs by Twisted Sister. I found out about more bands thanks to my metal head friends and Star Hits magazine 😁
As a metalhead I kind of have a soft spot for old synth pop even if not all of it has held up, I find it great and revolutionary on a level that no matter what clique or person you were we got pretty bloody good synth pop.
I thought I was the only head banger that secretly did that !!!! I bet there is more out there.
Another metal head checking in, came from Darker Thoughts by Paradise Lost to this. Quite the contrast.
Totally agree!!
Every club in the mid to late 80’s played this tune because it emboldened the people onto the dance floor. A timeless tune. They don’t write them like that anymore. Wish you all could have seen the energy and excitement that this song generated. Enjoy!
Biggest 80's dance tune was "Blue Monday" by New Order. Think it still holds record for most singles sold. They butchered the Hell out of it remixing and remixing, but thats what sold records. For me its more personal, the original, I heard, was paying homage to former Joy Division Bandmate Ian Curtis.
I remember when the dance floor would go black, and the strobes would start flashing during the second instrumental! Awesome times!
I look around at the world today and I thank the Universe I had a childhood that included the 80's.
I was there, you are soooo right about that. Hollywood in the late 80s
You got that right! There are some songs mixed by Raja Ram that will bring people to the dance floor! Check out "Raja Ram" and "TIP World" (Psy Trance/Full on)!!!!

Here I am in silence
Looking round without a clue
I find myself along again
All alone with you
I can see behind your eyes
The things that I don't know
If you hide away from me
How can our love grow
I wanna know
What you're thinking
There are some things you can't hide
I wanna know
What you're feeling
Tell me what's on your mind
I know I could break you down
But what good would it do
I could surely never know
That what you say is true
Here I am in silence
It's a game I have to play
You and I in silence
With nothing else to say
I wanna know
What you're thinking
There are some things you can't hide
I wanna know
What you're feeling
Tell me…

Not to mention a sampled Dr. McCoy from Start Trek at the start of the song and sampled Mr. Spock saying "Pure Energy" throughout the song, which really made it a hit. Thanks, Leonard Nimoy!

I've said it before and ill say it again. The 80s was a musical renaissance!
Yep, was a Golden Age, of Hollywood too. Music side started in booming England economy (thanks to Margaret Thstcher) and it was called. The New Romantic Movement. Reagan, capitalism had everything to do wth it, plus Ca California still being a red state then and Hollywood not taken over by left wing wackos.
The bar was set very high...you really had to do something special to get noticed. That being said, I do think a lot of the 80's sounds and melodies have come back in modern music.

They were so tech savvy that encoded a message into one of their albums I think using some kind of binary code with another code or something crazy like that.
Clássico!!! Essa música marcou minha vida no final dos anos 80. Quando ouço ela lembro de muitas coisas boas que aconteceram naqueles anos.

I love these song march 12 2022 I still learning these beautiful music
I miss the 80's....songs were so innocent and energetic!!!
Tina M Music was real and now it’s pc fake shit! I hate millennials! They would have gotten their azzes beat in the 80’s! We beat their azz at the poles! MAGA! You can’t kill an idea! 😂
Jolt Cola instead of Red Bull?
80s songs also have a prophetic, romantic quality, almost as if they were yearning for a future brave enough to never turn it’s back on it’s own years of struggle.
Me acabava dançando essa música !!!!
Que saudadessss... Só nostalgia !!!🎶🎵🎼🎶🎵🎼🎶🎵🎼
Brasil !!!!!!!✌❤👏👏👏
When I was a little kid in the 90s, I use to love it when this song came on the radio. My mom would always turn it up for me.
Amo essa música 🇧🇷🇧🇷
Amanda bonita vc 🤩
@@claudemirfagundes6602 sempre tem o gado kkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk
His vocals are awesome, and the beat is so good.
Não há o que se falar dos anos 80, sem essa banda incrível.
Here because we love the 80s music.
Em plena pandemia, ouvindo esse clássico nos anos 90 ❤❤🇧🇷🇧🇷👍👍
1988 o ano dessa musica amigo
Também gosto muito dessas músicas antigas...
Meu tio me ensinou a ouvir essas músicas!! Da hora, né!😉
Bons tempos,adorooo👋👋😂🥰
Isso como outros gêneros, não veremos nunca mais, pode ter certeza disso.
The 80’s... Where time should have stopped!
Yet.
We wouldn't have youtube though.
shmikeyify you tube won’t last better decentralized options coming. No corporations control
Dj Crazy J Oh f*ck yeah, you've got that right!!!! 🖤🖤🤘🤘💯💯🤟🤟💜⚡💡
Maybe if we play enough of these songs, the 80's will come back?
My god this song is brilliant.
Their entire first album was brilliant :) Not so much afterwards, though. I mean, it was OK, but just OK.
@@cryogeneric brilliant observation. Afterwards. Bad management. But they continued throughout. That's what true talent will do for you. Great song, great times, by far the best time to be alive.
Vocals are so much like the Human League, it’s wild ❤
Lets go see them in concert in santa barbara calif and in Inglewood come on we meet each other we are 80'$ billion dollar kids
@@rogerleon9325 Sadly I’m in the U.K. and unable to travel, but I hope you have the BEST time at the gig! ✨
best years of my life I'm 49 I still rock though
I still love this song, i used to play it all the time.
I am 54 and still loving this, like always. They dot make music like this anymore!!
49 here also.👍
@@salvadoramaya8642 me too at 48
manolis boutsina I am 48, I don’t see me like the 48 year olds back when I was 20. Anyone else here feel the same? I cannot even phantom becoming 50. Maybe our generation is aging differently?
Man I thought they were British but come to find out they are from Minneapolis. I love this song!
@@se1775 Yeah they are from Minneapolis Minnesota here in the US.
I also thought they were British. To me, the lead singer's voice sounds remarkably similar to Depeche Mode.
LOL same here!
I'm from Minneapolis and most people here don't know they were from Minneapolis.
That's cuz Minnesotans talk different than the rest of us. They have their own unique accent. I had a bad experience with a Minnesotan which made me naturally not want to like any of them but I'm sure they're not all bad.
This song hits hard in the right sound system. Still relevant today. Pure energy! Love it.
Number #3 on Billboard's pop chart in 1988 great stuff!
Essa música é a música que eu nunca vou cansar de ouvir. Sempre ouvia e dançava nas danceterias. Hoje estou bem mais velha ainda gosto de ouvir.
Very different kind of 80s song. Very original and creative. Definitely one of the best singles of that decade.
yep
Ahead of their time, that was my Era, great sound, have loved them since the beginning!!!
Wow. I just checked into this song, and you just posted an hour ago. Yeah definitely ahead of it's time. I subbed to Kurt Harland Larson's channel here on youtube.
Actually the arrangement and style is very early to mid 1990s electronica. It was ahead of it's time and very un80s.
the sounds are very 80s-sounding, but unlike this song, 80s music is almost always incredibly happy (like Depeche Mode's first albums, Erasure, Sandra, etc.) It's a bit hard for me to find an 80s song like this one (not too happy sounding)
Grew up as a kid in the 80’s ✨🖤🔥 I remember my older sister blasting this song in her room while getting ready for her date.. 😊
I don't know what it was, but getting ready to go out on the weekends and blasting 80s music (back then) seemed to put you in a good mood. I know it did me. Blasting music and a cocktail while getting ready was a blast. :)
T this makes me feel a good
Who's listening late 2024??
Eu Brasil aqui 😁
Eu 😍👋🙌
Clássico!!
I am lol

This was sadly the very last Billboard-charting new wave song of the Eighties, in my opinion. It was definitely the very last one I remember seeing played on MTV. A worthy American finale to what had been a fantastic mostly British musical era. 1981-1988. RIP new wave genre :(
I would disagree and say that "The Promise" by When in Rome was the last new wave song of the Eighties.
It's back...and it came riding in with car culture. #radwood
Yup. When in Rome and Information Society. I remember thinking at the time that they were heralding a "synthpop resurgence", but I was wrong... they were replaced by 'alternative dance' like Jesus Jones and then, BAM: Grunge! I checked the Billboard 100 1989 and both Love & Rockets and Duran charted that year, although not sure "So Alive" and "I Don't Want Your Love" are really New Wave songs.
Heather Ferreira well spoke !
Heather Ferreira thought they were Brits?
This song is one of the many examples of why New Wave is awesome and timeless music. These bands were rarely played on mainstream radio! They combined dance music with rock. Outstanding!
This came out too late to be New Wave. New Wave was roughly 1977-1984. Post-1985, we had synth pop and alternative rock
Some called it progressive new wave, and some called it alternative.
Definitely has the new wave sound
Sooo many labels! How about we just call it "Great Music?????"
Not a hit? The song peaked at #3 on the US BILLBOARD Hot 100 chart.
That is complete nonsense, this song spent 6 months on the Billboard Hot 100, and it peaked at #3. It sold half a million copies.
It’s 2022 and I’m still loving this song. 😊 I miss the music I grew up with. Today we don’t have many good singers. 😔
it's all auto tune today lol
I'm only 28 and i come back to this song constantly
Dont you mean any? The music todays sucks balls... cant hang with this time... and they used their own voices too ... imagine that!
You cannot compare the music from the 80's and 90's with nowadays music, not even close! It's not about the singers, it's about the music style! Today's music sucks big time!
It's all over produced and crap... no real musicians anymore
Sampling Spock always was brilliant!
I'm 54 years old, listened to this song hundreds of times, and never realized that was a Spock quote until I just read your post, and now I can't unhear Leonard Nimoy's voice LOL
