- Ipswich Town have won promotion back up to the EFL Championship from League 1 at the fourth attempt. Here's my take on how Kieran McKenna turned around things at Portman Road and secured the clubs return back up to the second tier.

As a Plymouth fan I knew we just couldn’t slip up as this run you have had was never coming to an end. We had to be at our absolute best to keep marginally ahead. Congratulations on an amazing season. Whatever happens next week, I am happy to be back in the Championship with Ipswich.

Lose a game, win the next 6, a draw, win the next 5. Keep hold of Mumba, pull out the stocks to buy him. Don't let him go back to the unmentionables up the road. Great little player.

What has been key to Argyle's success is consistency. The anticipated and/or hoped for "wobble" never happened.

I am a chantry boy who remembers as a ten year old going on the victory parade when Bill McGarry got us promoted to the top tier in 1968
My heart is with todays young fans looking forward to their parade after an incredible season
Town will need significant additions to perform as a chamionship club but this ownership group will deliver I am sure
That victory parade I was on was a journey that led to the Robson glory years
It would be nice to think the club is at the start of another great journey......up the Town!!
My school days coincided with the Robson era. Many of the current fanbase are too young to remember the play-off final in 2000, but this week-end they have something to celebrate. The Championship will present new challenges but the club seems better prepared to deal with them than it would have been under the previous "owner".
Well done ipswich, it has been a great battle between the top 3 and I think the right 2 clubs have gotten it over the line ..
Now on to next week for the title ..

What a day, what a result! Town can only go on winning. Great news for Ipswich.
Excellent summary Ben. The financials are only a small part of the equation. The players have performed relentlessly, with very few mistakes, under our brilliant young manager. It’s worth remembering that Ramsey, Robson and Burley were all unproven managers who were given their chance by ITFC. What a great club! 💙
It's also worth remembering that Robson wasn't an immediate success at Ipswich. Fortunately the club gave him time. I hope the club continues to appoint aspiring managers but hope McKenna stays for a while yet.

Congratulations Ben 👏 am absolutely buzzing for you, looking back into the 60s and 70s like Burnley I saw Ipswich as an old school club with great support despite never being like the top clubs, and as you pointed out with that kind of money behind you so you still have to grow your success in the old school way, "ie" find the right manager who signs the right players and build it from there 😁💞😘
Difficult day for me as a Wednesdayite , but both Plymouth and Ipswich deserved to go up , Their amazing runs were as spectacular as our inexplicable lack of form and fall from grace , All 3 teams have made for an incredible season , I wish both teams well who have incredible support , At Hillsborough they filled the away end and remember for both teams its a real trip………Any way I hope and pray Wednesday go up in the lottery that is the playoffs and that we get a chance to beat them both in the Championship
We don´t give a cuss about others saying we got promotion through having more money ! We are up , that´s what matters.
Ben love your vlogs, I have been an Ipswich fan for 45 years & never thought we were ever going to achieve anything under Evans but what a turnaround super Kieran McKenna what an appointment!!! Can't underestimate what Mark Ashton has done best day as an Ipswich fan in 23 years. Hopefully we can hold our own in the championship & think more about top half & never come back to league one 😀

On balance, the best two teams in the division are going up automatically. Its a rough break for Wednesday and Barnsley to have points totals like theirs and miss out. It will be a long time before we see a division as extraordinarily competitive as this one has been. COYG!

Yes! get in...fully deserved after the last couple of months with some really consistent wins. So back into the Championship where we were for many years, but this time I reckon we have some momentum under our belt and McKenna will be looking forward to the challenge, our style of football might be more accustomed to a higher league. Great summary of our journey, still can't get over being 5:0 in the 32nd minute yesterday, this is awesome football, the last 4 home games I've been to had an aggregate score of 20:0 , promoted and theres still something to play for in the last game, it puts Lamberts last two games before locodown 0:1 defeats at Portman Road against Fleetwood Town and Coventry sitting outside the league 1 play offs, with chorus of boos to bed . The football futures bright in Suffolk again 🔥⚽️⬆️

Super video as always, even when we had a bad run you still sensed they were not out of it. Attention to detail from McKenna and staff has been nothing short of methodical. Genuinely and I am not just saying this I think we'll finish top 6 in the Championship next year, just ask Burnley. 👍
It now feels like the Marcus Evans era was a long time ago. A fascinating season; a marked contrast Town's form between the goal drought following the away game at Charlton, and the current unbeaten run in which we've seemed unstoppable. It is possible that we could finish the season with 100 goals and 100 points. Already looking forward to the games against Norwich.
A 1-0 win at Fleetwood would do that.

I'm not a ticket holder nowadays. But the shrewd managing of the club has paid off. The Championship will test nerves, though I reckon we'll need a couple or 3 years for the next level to the Premiership. We'll done!

very well summed up Ben.Jan top up really made a difference, Luongo fell into the team (sometimes u need something like that) and it just clicked from there. We looked out of it but just kept on winning. Did think the chopping and changing of the side in the first half of the season hurt us a bit but McKenna learned from it though 👍

Today at Portman Road was magic, something I will never forget. From the moment the coach arrived at 13:30, right up until we were some of the very last to leave the stadium, it was truly awesome. I didn't go on the pitch, but wished I had when the guy next to me lit and smoked a massive cigar. I hate the smell, awful, had to tel, him to move. I'm still overexcited, I'm not going get any sleep😅
What a day, what a season! My ears are still ringing, my voice nowhere to be found and my hands red raw! Congratulations to Plymouth, not many teams could have kept up as at bay during a run like this. Pleased to be going up alongside the Green Army 💚 Good luck to everyone in the play offs, it really should be Wednesday joining us after that crazy run but I wouldn't mind seeing Bolton or Barnsley come up. Sorry Derby fans, I don't think one season down here constitutes enough suffering for you to get out yet, although I'm sure Warne will have you climbing high next season 😅 Hopefully the Town can pinch the trophy at the last and seal that fabled 100 points, 100 goals season we thought was the stuff of legend 💙

As a lifelong Ipswich fan, really couldn't be happier. As Benjamin Bloom rightly points out, throwing money at a club isn't always the answer, but building a successful and competetive squad is. McKenna has dealt very well in the transfer market, identifying quality, championship level players as well as good people, to add value to the club. I feel that in order to be similarly competitive and successful in the Championship we will have to invest in players that have had premiership as well as Championship experience. Players such as Patrick Bamford, Tommy Elphick, Dwight Gayle, Tom Ince etc. But we also need good characters, so it will be interesting to see what McKenna does.
All true…just important to acknowledge with humility that all of this is easier with the biggest set of resources 😊

Not seen a better team than Ipswich this season.
Plymouth had the consistency over a full season, but I believe in the long run Ipswich will prove themselves a handful for most Championship teams next season. As a Barnsley fan, sat in the East Stand and on the half way line. You could see how Ipswich had near-perfect tactics. It was like McKenna was sat from above, moving his pieces like a perfectly executed game of chess. I thought 3-0 was harsh on us, but I also don't think Ipswich really got out of second gear in terms of ruthlessness.
