Deicide, Opeth and Nightwish definitely stood out to me with their new releases this year, looking forward to the new Arch Enemy album in March, hoping that one is just as good as Decievers as that was my favourite Arch Enemy album with Alissa so far 🤘
My top 10 personally: 1. Blood Incantation - Absolute Elsewhere (no explanation needed) 2. Eidola - Eviscerate (like a darker, proggy, slightly heavier Dance Gavin Dance) 3. Swallow The Sun - Shining (Controversial pick, but I think it's a great catchy goth metal album. It's like a better version of HIM) 4. 200 Stab Wounds - Manual Manic Procedures (one of my favorite current death metal bands for a reason) 5. Fulci - Duck Face Killings (one of my favorite current death metal bands for a reason) 6. Leprous - Melodies of Atonement (lots of great song, even though it's not of my favorite leprous albums overall) 7. Bilmuri - American Motorsports (a really fun catchy mix of pop, country, hard rock, and djenty guitars. Super fun band to see live as well) 8. Tribulation - Sub Rosa In Æternum (one of the most consistently great bands. Their songwriting is killer no matter what they try) 9. Spectral Wound (Wasn't listening to a lot of black metal this year honestly, but I always check out Spectral Wound because they always give me what I want out of black metal) 10. Fit For An Autopsy - The NothingThat Is (my deathcore pic. I like deathcore, but very few deathcore bands can make whole albums that i don't get bored of about halfway through. FFAA is one of the exceptions) Honorable mentions: Poppy - Negative Spaces Vola - Friend of a Phantom Fellowship - The Skies Above Eternity (My power metal pick, this was close to making it to top 10) High On Fire - Cometh the Storm Full of Hell - Coagulated Bliss Nails - Every Bridge Burning Thrown - Excessive Guilt Jeris Johnson - Dragonborn (another one a lot of metalheads definitely would hate, but i thought it was fun. Haven't liked anything else he has done, but this was like a mix of Avenged Sevenfold, Nickelback, and trap music with Skyrim/viking inspired lyrics, and I get down with it)
I don't wanna shit on your picks, dude. But you mentioned Him, so I had to check out new Swallow The Sun's album. And I don't get how it can be a better version of Him. The clean vocals are just meh, nothing like Ville Valo, the growls are pretty generic compared to Akerfeldt for example. Have you listened to Venus Doom? I think it's much more interesting and catchy than this album. So it would be fair to say that Shining is like a heavier version of Him, but not better. Btw, have you listened to new Thy catafalque album? Clean and extreme vocals sound really great there.
@nik8113-5 @nik8113-5 I meant HIM more as a whole. Venus Doom is probably better, though. That album is great. Sleep Walking Past Hope is easily my favorite HIM song. Haven't checked out Thy Catafalque yet, I'll give it a listen.
*Blood Incantation - Absolute Elsewhere. *Ingurgitating Oblivion - Ontology of Nought. *Bedsore - Dreaming the Strife for Love. Lmao theyre all real, not all of them are metal but theyre all real. Blodwracu by Heafodban is a raw war metal, DSBM, blackened neofolk band. The first half of the record is beautifully melancholic but raw and aggressive at the same time. The second half is sparse and ambient while also being folky and rustic. Der Bose Geist by Nimbifer (German black metal band) is a raw melodic black metal record with tons of sinister atmosphere. Super well written and performed. Geordie Greep is a british guitarist and singer who was the frontman of black midi. This is his first solo record that experiments with latin jazz, progressive rock, jazz rock, and jazz fusion. Its an awesome record. PS Thou's new record was absolutely brilliant and heavy as fuck... loved it Aquilus was also brilliant

I was dreading year end lists putting Opeth so high. It's like saying 72 Seasons was AOTY. It's a mediocre record. We get it, he growls again. Might be their 8th best album in their catalog, hardly a top 20 album of the year. Saying that as a fan since 96 and seeing them live 6 times in their prime and twice in the fall off.
"Swallow the Sun - Shining--get the fuck out, worst album of the year" As an avid STS fan, I felt that, and I was so disappointed with it overall. The only good song was the last one, I'll die on that hill. Garbage ass album.

I love Swallow The Sun too but yeah this album is average .
Bruce Dickinson’s solo album sucks ass, good to see JP killing it and Blood Incantation was great.
Hippotraktor
It's a real shame for Deicide. It's a solid album, but the AI album art is embarrassing. Album art matters Questy, you said so yourself.
It does matter but I still love dance of death and other albums with bad art it’s mainly for new bands where it hurts them the most
@@Questformetal It's just sad that a great old school band like Deicide would be so lazy about the album art. It sets the wrong tone.
@ yeah agreed
@@Questformetal it is not about bad art, it's about AI art
Ai art rules and is the future bro 🐐🐐🐐
Questy, I swear, I´m french and the video you´ve watched to get the pronunciation of Paysage d´hiver is wrong as fuck. Just use google translate.
Brodequin is overrated. It's just a try hard "extreme" style that sounds monotonous. Lacks dynamics.
Vaguest criticism imaginable right here
@@anony-moon Alright. Explain to me in specific detail what is so amazing about droning cookie monster Brodequin metal?
I absolutely agree with you!
Yeah not a fan of constant barrage of noise
I liked the dirty production of the older material and the new album doesn't have nearly as much of that
Not one Aara mention or the top of the top; Abhorration's Demonolatry. My god what community is this.
Aara is great
Aara is my #10
