Hi Alex, You got the retaining walls on the edges wrong, they should be on the sides of the lower hall not the upper hall (just the first bay from the entire lenght). Think about the ground profile, you need retaining wall on the sides to create the lower hall space.

My solution is actually cut and fill, so I cut the earth on the lower hall side and fill it under the upper hall (I fill the gap between existing ground profile and the floor of the upper hall). I think the examiner's report for this question also mentions following this profile. A retaining wall on the lower hall side would be possible, but then you may have a retaining wall blocking the window on the north elevation.
