      Yeah, you can have separate scene collections to do whatever you want, but keep all those sources and setups separate from other scenes you use for other things. I have one scene collection for normal streams, another for TikTok/Shorts creation, one for recording TH-cam tutorial videos, and another for hosting competitions.

    Thanks for the easy to understand and straight forward video! Just a quick question about canvas resolution since I'm a noob. Whats the diff between base resolution and output resolution? Is the base one what I see on my screen, and the output is what the audience sees when I'm streaming?
    If so, then is 1080p or 720p better to stream at since my internet is kinda slow?

    • @GameNightStudio
      @GameNightStudio  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Pretty much, yeah! And if your Internet is slower, definitely stream at 720p, probably 30fps. It's about bitrate setup too. You want to do roughly half the upload speed you have. So if you get 10 Mbps upload speed from your Internet provider, you could do about 5000 bitrate. In that case of 5000 bitrate, you should be able to do 1080p with 30fps, or 720p with 60fps, depending on your computer specs too.

      I like using OBS to set up my scenes just how I want them, so I don't have to do much video editing after the fact - just cutting the beginning/end pieces off and sticking together a couple clips or whatever.
      For video editing though, I use and love Davinci Resolve. It's free, is pretty easy to learn, and has a TON of features. Adobe is probably the best, but what Davinci has for free vs paying outrageous amounts for Adobe products is way better in my opinion.

    very helpful ! how can you set a timer on OBS which doesn't appear on the video but that records for a given duration (for ex. 60 seconds or 180 seconds - to make a TH-cam short or a Tiktok video). I've seen tutorials on countdown timers but they appear in the video. I'm just looking for something that starts and stops a recording after a given duration of time. any clews ?

    • @GameNightStudio
      @GameNightStudio  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's called Selective Recording. It's a feature that Streamlabs has, but I still don't believe an OBS plugin has been created for. With it however, you can select for each source, what you want to go to stream, what to go to recording, or what you want to show up in both.
      I don't know of a way to have either only record for a certain point of time and then stop though. I'd say just have your phone next to do and start a timer on it when you hit record, and then could make a sound when time is up or something. 🤷‍♂️

    What are the settings if I want it to record my full screen. Just the game, vertically for tiktok? I am not recording me play, just me screen. Most of the OBS settings videos for tiktok only shows how to adjust for more than one screen

    • @GameNightStudio
      @GameNightStudio  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      So you want only a gameplay window captured? All you would need to do is set up the Base & Output resolution to vertical format as explained in the video, and then you can throw in that single source into OBS. Then stretch/crop/position it however you want.
      For example, if you want the game play to take up most of the vertical screen, that would be a zoomed in window of your gameplay. So you can stretch the window outside the canvas borders to the size you want. You'll lose gameplay from the sides, but you can have it take up more of the vertical screen.
      My advice for this though would be to just record the gameplay in your normal widescreen aspect ratio. Then you can throw into a video editor (highly recommend Davinci Resolve), set that up for vertical format, and then zoom/position the gameplay how you want before exporting it. The benefit here is that you will have the entire field of view from the game play after the fact to position how you want. If something happened a little off from what OBS is capturing if you're only recording zoomed in gameplay, then you can't get that back.
      Does that make sense and help?

    My question is, let's say I have a recorded video with the normal 16:9 and I wanna edit part of that video for Reels in such a way that I can show all part of the recorded video in reels displaying my work progress. An example would be me making an art work, and I want turn that art work recorded video into reels but still want my art work progress to be displayed showing everything I did across the 16:9 recorded video. How do I show everything as reels.....please i don't know if you understand my question?

    • @GameNightStudio
      @GameNightStudio  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You would have to use a video editor for that, and you'd have two options I can think of:
      1. Put the 16:9 widescreen video into the editor, but render it in 9:16 format. The full video will show, but will only take up the 1/3 or so of the vertical screen. You could add in other images or text or whatever into the blank space so it's not just all blank space, but this would let the full video be seen in vertical format.
      2. If there is a good spot to 'cut' the 16:9 video in at some points longways, you could then stack those two parts on top of each other in the 9:16 vertical format. For instance, if you have the actual drawing taking place in one part of the screen, and then maybe a face cam, reference material, etc. duplicate the video, crop each one to the respective section you want, and then organize them in the 9:16 format.
      I use DaVinci Resolve for video editing. It's free and incredibly good. Once you learn how to do either of these, if becomes very fast to make these edits.
      Hope this helps!

    • @GameNightStudio
      @GameNightStudio  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Lucid . . . I have not heard of this problem before. So in OBS, you're going to Settings --> Video --> Clicking in Base (Canvas) Resolution, and then trying to type in 1080x1920, but it won't let you? Does anything appear in the drop down box (the dropdown should just have different scaled versions of the normal 1920x1080)? Are you able to do this in your normal scene collection, or it just doesn't work at all?
      If you're actually in Streamlabs, you follow the same steps, except you have to click "Use Custom" next to the Base & Output Resolution fields in your Video Settings. You can't type directly into that box in Streamlabs.

    • @GameNightStudio
      @GameNightStudio  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah, it changes it across all scene collections, so you'd have to change it back. I have the different scene collections to help keep my scenes in my live streaming collection a little more manageable. I guess you could use a different profile, but I think it's faster for me to change the resolution real quick than to sign out and back in between profiles. Whatever works better for you!

    • @GameNightStudio
      @GameNightStudio  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey! I added those in my video editor for this video. I had those 3 pictures (PNG or JPG files), dragged and dropped into my editor (DaVinci Resolve), and resized and moved into place into the timeline where/when I wanted them to appear.
      However, this could be done in OBS if you'd like. You would just add in a Source for "Image", select the file, resize and position where you would want it to appear. Then under Settings -> Hotkeys, you could find those sources and set them up to a hot key to appear/disappear when you want. If you have a streamdeck, set the hotkey/action on the stream deck instead
      I would generally recommend doing these types of actions in a video editor. The hotkey actions I would generally have more for something like a live stream to trigger an animation or picture I'd want to show. But if you want to do as much in OBs as possible without a video editor, and you have something like a "please like and subscribe" animation you want to use in your videos, you could have that set up in OBS with the hotkey to trigger at the right time during your recording to show up directly on your recorded OBS video.
      I hope this helps!!
