    Jordan has been at both Catholic masses and Orthodox liturgies, so who knows where he'll end up-- if either. His wife is Catholic though, and seems to have reverted back to Catholicism quite strongly after she was (miraculously) healed from terminal illness, to my understanding.

      You took Jesus's name by calling yourself Catholic(or Christian), but aren't actually trying to live the way Jesus wants us to live. Therefore you took his name in vain.

      Yeah, I think many Christian denominations have people who would 'ooh and aah' about his attendance and any positive attention he showed.
      How much would these guys' tone and attitude change if Peterson became protestant? If he had a look of awe and interest at a protestant church or a secular musical production would they care?
      I feel like there's an underlying sense of "he's a big prize!" From some people, at least. That's sorta gross, and I think some Christians _AND_ atheists are guilty of wanting to claim him to bolster their "party image".

    • @Littleflower53
      @Littleflower53 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@cliftut I can totally see where you’re coming from, and I do think there is a competitiveness among many people as to who will “win” him over. However, I do believe that so many people have tremendous respect for JP. He is highly intelligent, so well spoken, and very influential. So if he were to convert to any religion, it could gain some much needed respect toward that denomination.
      As for Catholics, they are so often misunderstood. There is so much misinformation out there about Catholics. He could be a great apologist for the Faith and help others really understand it, or, at the very least, spark some interest in whatever faith attracts him.
      Given his wife’s miraculous healing and personal devotion, I think it’s only a matter of time before he converts to Catholicism. Not a decision he would take lightly, for sure. JP doesn’t jump on bandwagons and spontaneously make choices like that. That’s part of the fascination with him. If he chooses something, you KNOW he has chosen extremely carefully, studied much, mulled it over, etc, etc, etc… He will come out the other side so well versed and 100% positive of the truth he’s found. I look forward to watching his journey.

    We must maintain reasonable hope that all will be saved.

    • @CatholicismRules
      @CatholicismRules 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

       @Bill Anderson If you believe that everyone will be saved, that everyone will ultimately choose God in the final moment of their life, and that no one will have mortally defected from God, throughout the course of their life, in a way that may -- although it also may not -- be forgiven only through the Sacrament of Confession, unless we want to presume upon God's extrasacramental forgiveness. As you can tell, I don't think a hope of this kind is reasonable. Hell is real, and the "reasonable hope" crowd seems to be soft-universalists who deter others from converting, because why bother?
      Following one's conscience is a start, but one's conscience must *first* be well-formed -- well-informed through study and well-formed in virtue. St Paul says that the good he wills (and thus knows), he does not. People don't always follow their consciences. Ignorance is not the only defect of which people are culpable.
      I don't mean to write an essay, but I think this is an important point, that the "Dare we hope" perspective is deeply flawed, and the reason why Bishop Barron believes it is because he (at least borderline) rejects the notion of incontinence, in the Aristotelian sense, that people can know the good yet choose otherwise. His position is that, because all actions aim at the good, they are implicitly aiming at God; however, this position is untrue, as St. Augustine demonstrated with his famous story of how he stole pears only for the sake of doing evil, apart from *any* apparent good.
      If you want to be charitable to people, be honest: tell them that they put themselves in grave spiritual danger to be outside the Church.
      EDIT: Regardless of your view on that, I'm sure you believe that being a part of the Catholic Church provides one with a greater chance of salvation, so we should rejoice even if you take a "Dare we hope" perspective.

    I think many Christian denominations have people who would 'ooh and aah' about his attendance and any positive attention he showed.
And therefore rationalizing what he says and does to match who they think he is or who they want him to be. (This is true in reverse for his opponents.)
    In short, I see the extra clamouring-for that famous people get as a little pharisee-like. Would they turn on him if he disappointed them?

    This channel oozes of human veneration. We should only be in awe of our Creator, not His creation. What’s more disturbing, is the host doesn’t deflect the glory man is getting onto our Lord who paid it all. Jesus is rarely mentioned ever on this site. Seems to only be about people and how “awesome” they are.
    Jesus is worthy of our praise, we aren’t.

      @@billmonteith1161 many people growing up may say things publicly that are against the Catholic church. When they decide to come back or join the Church for the first time, there is no where in the Rite of Election, or the final entrance into the Church with Baptism ( if not already baptised in a Christian faith), Confirmation and Holy Eucharist, does anyone publicly renounce a specific statement that they may have made earlier. Yes they renounce Satan etc but they do not renounce publicly any specific statement they may have made.
      They may do privately in their first Confession (if they were previously Baptised or if already a Catholic) before the final entrance ceremony into the Church.

      @@paulinewoods375 I understand. Again, he doesn't owe me or anyone else an apology. Just my input. If he comes into the Church and there is a video of him giving marital and child rearing advice to a "married" homosexual, that will be cause for scandal as that is in opposition to Catholic teaching. A lot of people(including myself) admire Jordan Peterson and I would never dream of judging his soul, but you have to admit, it's a bad optic. Just my humble opinion.

      Anyone who respects and admires Peterson, should use the same critical study of a subject as he does, before being critical of it, as both statements are untrue. Specifically regarding hell, the pope made no such statement, but is quoted as having said it to Eduardo Scalfari, the 93 year old renowned atheist philosopher, who was known for his "convenient" misquotes of the Pope.

    JP has also criticised the RC church for the clerical sexual abuse of children and how the bishops and other priests enabled the abuse to continue by covering it up and not bringing the perverted priests and nuns under the law of the land.

    If Jordan makes a pivot, millions of people who respect him will listen to why. He has taken on all sorts of difficult topics. Has it occurred to you that he may not have a good enough reason to be religious and that’s why he does it but won’t clearly state why? Leave him be. He has a gift of teaching. When he has something to share, he will. Just let him enjoy his private practices.
