Okay little fun fact about this episode: When I was about 6, the show was on Netflix but they didn't have the episodes in the right order. So we didn't know this was the series finale, we just assumed it was one of those cases of "Really dark episode were the characters have something really bad happen to them that gets undone and never mentioned again in the next episode".
I could easily see a Dinosaurs revival movie involving most of the cast's frozen bodies being discovered and revived. Imagine the Sinclair family finding themselves in our time.
@@jenisia3600 Why this premise does sound interesting. chances are in today’s movie culture, 90% of the movie would just been “lol look at how these characters react to modern Pop culture”
the one thing i wish we had in the finale was roy hanging out with the family. roy was an important character and earl's only true friend i think it would've been nice if roy and earl also had a meaningful talk about how much they're friendship means to each other.
Jim Henson was actually an environmentalist and he’s the same guy who made Song of the Cloud Forest. It wouldn’t surprise me if he approved of the finale.
I always wish Jim Henson could've lived long enough to see Dinosaurs; I think he'd be very proud of it, including the ending. Also, I have a suspicion that some of the Dinosaur bodies were repurposed for the Neverending Story 3, but that's just a theory
@@AbrasiousProductions im not saying it isn't a horrible movie, because it definitely is, but the puppets and animatronics in NS3 were all made by the Jim Henson Company, and they most likely did recycle materials and costumes. The skeleton of the Earl suit could easily have had a Rockbiter skin put over it.
@@AbrasiousProductions I don't want to disparage the puppet builders and operators, because they're not poorly made, but they just didn't have the budget to build too many new things (and it's not like they had any input on the story either, so I won't fault the Henson Co for that either, that's all on the director and studio). I think they'd be ok, if they were characters in a different, generic fantasy movie or tv show, instead of being awkwardly brought back for an unnecessary sequel film that's somehow worse than the 2 different Neverending Story tv shows.
I remember watching this when it originally aired. My family and I watched it every week. I was there with my siblings and mom, watching the episode. We had no idea it was the series finale. It wasn't the first time we had seen an episode cover serious themes, that happened fairly often, with the famous mix of seriousness and comedy this series is known for. But even with serious themes, by the time the episode ended, things usually weren't "that" bad when all was said and done. We watch this episode, and keep waiting for the last minute "fix" that was going to make everything OK again. The episode ends, and we all just are kind of looking at each other, wondering "Is that really it?" My mom is the first to speak, saying "So, that's how the dinosaurs died. Earl Sinclair did it." To this day, it is still the most memorable and unexpected series finale I've ever seen. Never expected something this dark from a fun show about dinosarus living in a modern lifestyle.
This series wasn't messing around with its satire. They made fun of Scientology LONG before South Park did, and since it was such a brief sequence and an underrated series, it went completely under the radar. These guys threatened to sue Futurama's staff for "The Church of Robotology" which had no connection or reference to that cult whatsoever. As for the "torch the franchise and run" nature of the ending, the same thing kind of happened with the 2012 TMNT. The show's TRUE finale was a multipart post-apocalyptic storyline that technically killed off everyone but the turtles by way of said apocalypse implying only mutants survived. Nick didn't want to acknowledge it as the ending, even though the opening title crawl had a "thanks for everything Laird and Eastman" dedication, and instead pushed another multipart story about the 87 version of Shredder and Krang going into the 2012 show's universe. At least they could fake it being some sort of anniversary project or something.
If it's any comfort, it was verified that in this universe Dinosaurs have an afterlife! Just imagine where Mr. Richfield went? A place "Not so Nice" I can imagine Earl's surprise that he doesn't wind up there. Mostly cause 1) he admitted his mistake and 2) loved and stuck by his family until the very end.
Thanks for discussing this. Dinosaurs isn't talked about enough. It was a brilliant show that is sadly, hardly acknowledged nowadays. Yes, I remember the series finale & how incredibly sad & dark it was. Even darker & sadder than ALF's series finale. I'll have to go back & rewatch this series, again, sometime soon. Not the mama!!!
4:31 If I were phonecalling, I would say "It's not an excuse to such a dark finale! Could you just ignore science just for this time so we don't have to make this traumatizing episode? Or maybe make someone save the day? Just... ANYTHING BUT THIS FRICKING DOWNER?"
When I found dinosaurs on D+. They put the unaired episodes AFTER “changing nature” on the playlist. But then they fixed it. Kudos to Disney for fixing. Still the saddest ending of all time
It’s really a sign that times are changing when an episode with a subject that I might’ve actually given any thorough thought at all a decade ago makes me roll my eyes so hard nowadays because of all the nuance about the situation I know now combined with the absolute lunacy of current day climate activism and the incompetence/corruption of world governments to do anything to actually help solve the problem.
Terrific ending. Gutsy. I’m sick of happy endings that make no sense. This show was memorable because of the ending. Without it, it was just a cute show with some social commentary.
Y'know, this is gonna shock many, but according to the production order, and Netflix when they featured Dinosaurs, the last episode was Georgie the Hippo! I figured they somehow bounced back after that cataclysmic episode! Felt like a funnier way to end my favorite show than accepting the seriously bleak episode.😢😅
I really thought creator Michael Jacobs was trying to quit on Dinosaurs just to move on to Boy Meets World instead. Didn't realize that ABC just didn't want the show anymore. But Dinosaurs should've stuck on Friday night's the rest of the way.

that.. that actually sounds interesting.
Ugh that sounds like fukin shit.
That’d be cool, but Hollywood don’t have a vision anymore

there was a third one?

Well, it's not every day your dad accidentally commits omnicide by playing God.
To be fair, Earl was just the puppet of a large greedy corporation. Their name gives them away The WeSaySo Corporation.

I can't handle puppet death. I felt like trash for the rest of the night after this.
Same :
I learned of it through one word: blameitonjorge.

Still the saddest ending of all time
I realized something, this episode came out 3 years BEFORE End of Evangelion.
It's crazy...
This is some advanced puppetry that's never been utilized ever again. It's a shame, really
Wasn’t the same puppetry style used on the teenage mutant ninja turtles movie made by the Jim Henson company?
@thisisachannel50 if so, that means it was too much for a TV production

Is it just me or does it seem like every puppet sitcom like dinosaurs and Alf usually don’t have happy endings
Dinosaurs writing staff just asked themselves what happens to the sinclairs when they are forced to confront the final stage of capitalism.
3:26 “Given that you don’t see them walking around Main Street”
Actually, you do. They’re just called birds now.
And Cassowaries.
The final episode of Dinosaurs was pretty depressing but still well written and a really powerful ending.
On the bright side, at least They didn't have the characters die on screen.
Well that was rather short, for a premiere. Like your other video about Dinosaurs though.
This is Month of the Minis after all.
Actually Dinosaurs are technically still around but not in a form that you would expect them to be in.

JIM WHAT DUUUU7 HELLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL OH MA GOD IM SLQP YO DUM AHIN THE GOD DAYUUUUUUUMMMMMM FACE
Some dinos in Theodore Rex look like the dinos from Jim Hension's Dinosaurs.
I would be expecting when one of the bombs also accidentally hit into the earth's core and causing continental drift and pangea split apart

The Plant episode is my favorite. I can't seem to remember why
3:27 why is a tyrannosaur fighting a STEGOSAUR 💀
As cynical as this episode can be, it is becoming more relevant every year
Dave the barbarian. WHAT!?
"my favorite show of all time: Dave the barbarian-" SKIP!
Apocalypto's end was more disturbing for me
Not the Mama!
they came back... as oil
I don’t like this show’s art style. Despite the Jim Henson company’s amazing feats to make this.
This finale was so sad and cynical
