  • We NASCAR fans are a very nostalgic set of people, and many times we do not see the good or memorable things that are right in front of us. Today I want to look at drivers, cars, and tracks that are helping to define this era of NASCAR racing that may not make it to the next one. These are 7 things about modern NASCAR we’ll miss in a decade.

Alex Bowman in the 48 hits hard. I really hope this injury doesn't affect him long-term and he goes back to winning.
It is worth considering that with 4 drivers all within 5 years of age of eachother, Hendrick will likely have to let someone go at some point even if all 4 are performing, in favor of not having to do a complete rebuild 10-15 years from now.

The last 2 hit on a personal level
Autoclub was my home track and having been to both of its last races, it was an absolute thrill, both in terms of racing and in the fan experience. I had a blast watching Larson win in 2022 and one of my greatest memories was made watching Busch win in 2023. It broke my heart seeing clips of the tracks demolition knowing we will never get that great experience back again. God I hate petty real estate companies...
Kyle Busch was the driver who got me into NASCAR. There was just something about an asshat who took crap from nobody and would still flex in their faces with wins. He is an absolute delight to watch and i don't think I could ever watch NASCAR without him

I’m gonna say Bristol dirt I know it’s gone starting next year but you gotta think that they actually tried something different and brought dirt racing back to the NASCAR cup series for the first time in over 50 years so you can’t blame NASCAR for trying, and the racing in my opinion was really fun to watch and see the different types of drivers that were going up there and battling for the lead and the wins

I'm gonna add something else. Custom built engines. Teams are more and more conglomerating on engine building and the inevitable is a universal crate. With the crate bodies and tight suspension rules, we already basically have "crate cars" out of the box.
You still have the ability to see teams shine in the engineering department, emphasizing the "team" aspect. In reality, it is becoming more and more driver individualistic.

    • @chevyblock550
      @chevyblock550 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

@johnhaas2523 I'm sure it looks like this on paper but I also believe the teams add their own parts. Ex: I worked for an ARCA team some years back. We bought engines from another team but would customize the intake a bit because the team found something that would pick up a couple extra HP.

The nostalgic thing is kinda motorsports exclusive if you ask me, because it's one of the few sports that is constantly changing in big ways. Even before the chase, the cars were a constantly evolving thing. In the 90's, we fondly remembered the 80's and missed that period. In the 2000's we fondly remembered and missed the 90's. And so on and so on. Other sports have evolution too, of course, but those sports are almost exclusively the teams/athletes. Not so much their equipment.

Well, yer probably correct -- which is more of an judgement on human nature than NASCAR, or even auto racing... The era of NASCAR I thoroughly enjoyed was back when they were welding roll-cages onto the factory frames (never mind that "frames" as such don't exist anymore). Going to a race meant camping (a tent, not a wheeled-palace) in the infield from Friday through to the race and after the race sharing a beer with the crew/driver of choice -- on cooler evenings, everyone gathered around the fire-barrels... but that's all gone -- yep, those were carbureted engines, five-lug wheels and painted bodies (not skins), but NASCAR wasn't trying to impress Europe, or open new markets in Djibouti -- wherever. Ya know what, we had more horsepower then, the racing was just as enjoyable, maybe more so, and even on our low-pay we could afford to make 6-8 races a year in person with the whole family -- my kids, now in their fifties, were raised on NASCAR infields -- at a minimum.... have things really improved?

I will forever miss The 2 Mile Auto Club Speedway. Although It’s good that they MIGHT (Key Word: Might) be building a Short Track to keep The Legacy of Auto Club, I still just wish The Auto Club Speedway would have stayed as a 2 Mile D-Shaped Oval. I said Might earlier because although It was announced The Short Track Is still on The Table, Many People still think that It might not happen because The Short Track was
announced In 2020, In a Few Days It’s gonna be 2024. (At least that’s why I think Fans are starting to doubt The Short Track). It’s also been delayed many Times as originally It was gonna debut after The 2021 Auto Club 400 and In 2022, The Short Track was gonna debut. It was delayed though because The 2021 Auto Club Race was canceled and moved To The Daytona Road Course. And In 2022 when NASCAR returned to Auto Club 2 Mile Track. Not sure why but maybe It was because NASCAR wanted to Test The Gen 7 Car at Auto Club. That’s my Theory. It was brought back In 2023, but It would be The Final 2 Mile Auto Club Track Race ever In NASCAR. And It was True as ever since Then, The 2 Mile Track has been Demolished and NASCAR still says Auto Club might be turned Into a Short Track, but we have no updates at all on The Short Track. All we have Is a Photo of what The Short Track could look like, but that might not even be what It turns out to be If It happens. If It does happen, I’d say It’d be Good for The West Coast Fans because It would be a Short Track on The West Coast. (It would also be The Only Short Track on The West Coast). As currently, The 5 Cup Short Tracks Richmond, Martinsville, Bristol, Iowa, and North Wilkesboro, 4/5 are on The East Coast and The States that The Tracks are In all Border Each Other. Those Tracks being: Richmond, Martinsville, Bristol, and North Wilkesboro. Then you have Iowa which Is just In The Middle of Nowhere and The Track Is only hosting It’s First Cup Race In 2024, but It Is actually a returning Track. The Truck Series does make a 6th Short Track market for NASCAR with The Lucas Oil Indianapolis Raceway Park. (Not The Only Truck Short Track). Which Is only a Truck Series Track, not a Cup or Xfinity Track. The Xfinity Series only races at 4 Short Tracks: Richmond, Martinsville, Bristol, and Iowa. So adding a Short Track on The West Coast would be great to expand NASCAR Short Tracks. So now I just hope The Auto Club Short Track happens. Sorry If that’s a bit of a Long way of describing The Auto Club Speedway but I had to get my Opinions out. But although The Short Track Is good for The West Coast, I’ll forever miss The 2 Mile Auto Club Speedway.

I have two things that I won't miss about modern NASCAR in a decade. The first is Fox's coverage which is absolutely terrible apart from Mike Joy. I think Fox will not renew their contract with NASCAR once the deal that begins in 2025 comes to an end mainly because they will remain all in when it comes to the NFL & college football & will do everything in their power to keep those rights. The second thing I won't miss is NASCAR being viewed as a second class series by F1 fans on social media especially ones who think the current F1 product is the greatest form of racing that has ever existed. This is because I think the F1 bubble when it comes to popularity in the US will burst soon especially when Lewis Hamilton retires, Andretti's entry into F1 gets totally rejected or if Max Verstappen keeps dominating the sport & F1 will go back to being a niche series like it was before ESPN got the F1 rights. NASCAR needs to do everything possible to be in a position to take advantage of this.

People will miss Kyle Larson when hes gone. We will miss the sound of the current engines (Hybrids are coming sooner than we think).
That being said we are in the dark ages of the sport now. Viewership is down, talent pool in the truck series is a joke. I miss the truck series of the 2000s and 2010s. It had its own identity.
That being said NASCAR should bring back the X pipe for Daytona and Talladega for the sound it created (Even if it isnt the best way nowadays).
As far as nowadays i think people will miss the racing at the intermediates, and there will be a time when Mike Joy steps down so he will be missed.

As much as I hate to say it, I think Bubba Wallace is the closest thing we have to a “personality” in Nascar right now after KyB, Denny, and Joey retire. Nobody has the pizazz and uniqueness to stand out like it was from the early 2000’s and before. You don’t even see Nascar commercials like you did then from their sponsors. I’m talking all the Coca-Cola ones, Napa and Mikey, Dale Jr and Bud, Jimmy and Lowe’s and so on. Amid all the changes to improve, Nascar is failing. Guy’s like Tony Stewart, Dale Earnhardt Sr, Kevin Harvick, Kyle Busch, even Matt Kenseth were a reason to pay attention because they were either loved or hated. Nobody has those personalities anymore, and if they did, Nascar seems to frown upon it. Let the personalities shine and the teams and sponsors need to up their game
