What an amazing thing to learn. Being out on the water is always a big treat for me, and I've only driven motor boats...sailing is a whole other animal !! Bravo.
Good grief, what a wonderful new adventure. I can just see us getting videos from you as you sail around the globe singlehandedly 😉. And just look at that beautiful blue water .....
You have your port and starboard tacks reversed. The tack direction is determined by what side of the boat the wind is coming from. So if the right side then the starboard side it is the starboard tack and port the port side. It doesn't really have to do with the sails orientation as much as the winds direction. Even if you are going almost straight down wind if the wind is coming from your right side (You facing forward) Over your right shoulder you would be on the starboard tack. The starboard tack has right of way. So boats sailing upwind (Tacking) Should give way to boats on starboard if they are on port. Also in a sailing race the leeward boat has right of way to the windward boat on the same tack if his mast is forward of the windward boat . So the leeward boat can head up into the windward boat and force him to give way or tack. But other than that you have learned you terms correctly.
Welcome to the sailing community. We have an Aloha and sail/camp with it in the Thousand Islands of Ontario. If you're ever up this way, look us up and we can take you out. You can camp on an island.😂 It sure didn't take long to see I am going to love your channel.

Thank you. Yeah, I’ve wanted to learn to sail for a very long time. Love being on the water too.

Thanks. Well, we'll see. Not sure about single-handed around the world but you never know
Wow, that looks awesome! Even tho it looks like fun I would have to think that it is a lot of work. Enjoy!
It is both. Great fun but also a lot of learning and busy days.
