Not only the Greatest Show on Earth, but also one of the greatest songs ever written. It is all about the origins of Earth and life. The song is broken up into 5 parts: part 1 (4.6) is about the origin of the Earth (4.6 billion years ago). Part 2 (Life) is about the origins of life - ‘the tapestry of chemistry’. Part 3 (the toolmaker) is about the coming of humans and how we may eventually lead to our own extinction. Part 4 (the understanding) is the first spoken part at the end of the song and comes from Richard Dawkin’s book (also called The Greatest Show on Earth). Part 5 (sea worn driftwood) is the part spoken by Richard Dawkins at the end and is a quote from Charles Darwin’s ‘Origin of Species’. There is so much else going on here in the visuals and the little ‘Easter eggs’ in the song such as the small part that outlines the evolution of music from Gregorian chants to Bach to Metallica. This truely is nothing short of Choppy Epicness. Greetings from the Nightwish Army (Sydney Australia Division) 🇦🇺🤘

Troy Donockley is a multi-instrumentalist who worked a long time with Nightwish and joined the band officially in 2013 at the same time as Floor. He plays uilleann pipes, guitar, irish bouzouki, whistles and much more. Richard Dawkins is a famous evolutionary biologist born in 1941 (so much older than Troy, more of the Beatles generation). His 2009 book The Greatest Show on Earth inspired Tuomas. Oh, and I loved your sincere reaction. Hope the kid grows up loving this music and joins the Nightwish family

The title of the issue is taken from a 2009 book by evolutionary biologist and atheist writer Richard Dawkins, about the evidence for biological evolution. Dawkins also contributes to the album. Holopainen explained to HMV in March 2015: "I wrote him a letter a little over a year ago and explained what ideas we had for this album, mainly about evolution. Since one of the songs goes straight to one of his books, it felt like a perfect match to try and recite him on the album. A few weeks later, he sent me an email accepting the invitation."
"Later in 2014, we recorded his parts at Hats Off Studios, Oxford. This is a huge honour for us, as Dawkins is one of our greatest heroes and his writings have been a huge inspiration for the album."

Hey Sevsimo. Loved your reaction... including your son joining the show. A future Nightwish fan for sure. You figured it out. Richard Dawkins was the author and narrator for part of this song which was base upon his book. Also, Troy Donockley, is the sixth Nightwish member who plays every instrument that you can imagine. Someone once asked Troy what he can't play and he said "Hockey". He was accepted as a full member of the band at the same time Floor was, shortly after the Wacken 2013 show. He sings and plays the electric guitar with an ebow (a device that vibrates the strings of the guitar as if they were being played with a bow), the Uillean Pipes (Irish elbow pumped bagpipes), the low whistle, the tin whistle, the acoustic guitar, etc. Kai Hahto was killing on drums throughout the last two thirds of the song. Fantastic composition by the Metal Mozart, Tuomas Holopainen. Thank you for this.

It's not Emppu in the beginning of this song, but Troy Donockley, 6th member of Nightwish. Later on he also plays the Irish Uillean pipes. This story is about the origin of Earth till the present day. The 4.6 means: 4.6 billion years ago. I prefer the Tampere version

Another banger bro, thank you so much! I first heard this song after hiking into virgin Tingle tree forest, each tree thousands of years old, never been cleared nor settled since time began in the far southern forests of Western Australia. I camped on a pristine river far from any humanity where few had been, other than maybe a few blackfella's way back in the day, collecting magic mushrooms along the way which grow native in the area. Pulled my laptop out my backpack, popped a few mushies and watched the stars while hearing this for the first time, completely alone and soaking in the deep forest yet to be properly explored nor settled by white man. Truly an experience I will never forget, only roos and emus to hear the song I will never forget till the day I die. We WERE here. X

And then he reacts to Joelma in his solo career live in the Amazônia in 2022 (Block 1 and Block 2). She is considered the greatest performer in Brazil, and one of the few who don't use playback, her face is swollen because she contracted Covid 4 times and her blood was clotting, but even so she managed to record this DVD, like almost 50 years.

Thanks for the great reaction I know a, lot of people have commented. The guy with the pipes is Troy the sixth band member I don't think you have checked out any songs with him in try seven days to the wolves, I don't think you've done it but it's right up your street. Troy is British like me he's our little bit of Nightwish. Richard Dawkins is a British evolutionary biologist who's spent a lot of his life debunking the god theory so this song is about the beginning of earth. Hope you enjoyed it you seemed to, see you again for the next kne😊🇬🇧they usually end the show with this. Check out the Tampere version absolutely epic.😮

Floor: "Enter Luca" / Marko: "Enter Ionia" / Emppu: "Enter Sandman"
And yes, Nightwish songs are always too short. IMHO, starting to google something during a (music) video is not something you want. If you don't understand something, just let it go and enjoy the ride. You only experience something once for the first time. Questions can be asked later, as most reactors don't bother to do just a little bit of homework, even after 7 videos of the same band.

Added to my earlier post, I should also point out how many ‘easter eggs’ there are in the visuals as well. For example, in the section that goes from chants to Bach to Metallica, the visuals playing in the background go from a snake (the creature that tempts Adam and Eve to eat from the tree of knowledge) to an image of child-like innocence (girl on a swing) to a nuclear explosion all within the space of about 5 seconds. Additionally, the skins on Kai’s bass drums has images of DNA on it, and the ‘rock’ Troy sits on while he plays his pipes has fossils in it. The whole production is a sensory feast!

🏆 In the grand tapestry of "The Greatest Show on Earth," the song further delves into the wonders of existence. From the primordial seas to the majestic landscapes, it paints a vivid picture of our planet's history. It explores the rise of civilizations, the pursuit of knowledge, and the triumphs and tribulations that shaped us.
Let us embark on a journey through time, where ancient empires rise and fall, where poets and thinkers ignite the flame of enlightenment. Witness the achievements of art, science, and exploration that have shaped our collective identity. The symphony of humanity echoes through the ages, resonating with the harmonies of progress and the melodies of compassion.
But amidst the brilliance, the song also confronts our darker nature. It speaks of the scars we've left upon the Earth, the consequences of our actions. The lyrics delve into the need for introspection, to acknowledge our mistakes and strive for redemption. It calls upon us to recognize the fragility of our planet and the interconnectedness of all life.
And now, my dear friend, as you stand at the precipice of understanding, I implore you to grasp the magnitude of our existence. Hear the lyrics of "The Greatest Show on Earth" as a plea to embrace our shared responsibility. For in this grand theater of life, we are the actors, the audience, and the directors. Our choices shape the narrative that unfolds before us.
Let the symphony of humanity guide your steps, and may the words "We were here" reverberate within your soul. Together, let us be the stewards of this precious world, nurturing its beauty and preserving its harmony. Embrace the call to cherish our collective legacy and create a future that celebrates the magnificence of all life.
So, my friend, open your heart to the epic tale of our existence, and let the music of Nightwish be the catalyst that awakens your understanding. Stand with us, hand in hand, as we embark on this remarkable journey together, ensuring that the greatest show on Earth continues to inspire and awe for generations to come.

"Richard Dawkins playing on this one"... His voice was recorded in Oxford, England, along with the band members, they got a lift back into town, in a prototype Tesla, cool!
That was actually Troy (this was like a typical Troy joke), also from England, he became a bandmember at the same time as Floor.
This Wembley version has better sound, but don't miss the Tampere, Finland 2015 version!
That piano intro gradually changing (evolving).
Floors monotone voice of the narrator.
You have a drummer in training!
    "C'mon, I'm ready for it!"
The sounds of waves and a Siren's voice.
The screen turns from red to green.
Roaring of Big Cats, screams of Chimps,
Marko, Troy and Floor growling, Ooha, Haaha, Ooha, Haha, Ooha!
Metal guitars, we know whats coming...
    Multi-gasms.
Chuggity, chug, chug, like a steam engine, literally the Industrial Revolution.
    “WE WERE HERE!”

Yeah, you are exactly right. Nightwish sees all its members as family, this difference in view is sadly also the reason they fired their original vocalist Tarja in a very ugly way, since she constantly distanced herself and started to act more and more like a visiting guest diva. So glad they have made peace with her since then
Side rant: Why on earth are people suddenly being directed to this inferior live version instead of the Tampere one, really bugs me out. Still amazing ofc, but the main version is so much better

This song must be declared then national anthem of mankind!
The Wembley version is good because of the presence of Sir Richard Dawkins. But I hear some wrong notes at the beginning. I prefer the Tampere version with fireworks.

That's odd. For me it's the Tampere version where I hear Tuomas hitting a few bum notes in the first section. I do like the fireworks though.

I'm sorry you chose the ugly verion! yes ugly version compared to Tampere's.
Reactors choose this bc it is shorter. I love your reactions but can't stand this version.

Don't be ridiculous. They're both excellent versions. The sound quality on this one is better, and Troy playing the e-bow is much better than his equivalent opening in Tampere.
