    Ashley, your willingness to surrender yourself completely to the music is such a joy to see. I have seen this epic piece of work probably hundreds of times and end up some where between choked up to complete puddles more often than not. Watching you witness it for the first time makes me feel the way I did the first time I saw it myself. I don't know "you", but I don't believe it is possible to fake being moved the way you let the music move you. It is so intimate and raw. It makes me think we are getting to see, at least in part, the real Ashley. Don't stop doing these they way you do them. You are a beautiful soul and it always brightens my day to get to see your reactions. Thank you for that.

      Absolutely, Fireworks subbing for the instrumental asteroid hits and Troy on the low whistle instead of the electric guitar/E-Bow. Not to mention Floor in her DNA outfit. Both are great performances.

    • @gsparkman
      @gsparkman 3 ปีที่แล้ว +20

      Wembley version is fine, but for me Tempere is the Gold Standard. Always a bit disappointed when a reactor’s first exposure to this opus is the Wembley performance. The appearance of Dawkins does not make up for the missing impact of the fireworks, and the heartwarming close with band. Plus Floor’s dress in Tampere lends even more gravitas to the performance.

    • @cantankeroustank6904
      @cantankeroustank6904 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@gsparkman For me it's sort of the opposite. It's really close but I prefer the Wembley version because, while it lacks the close up shots with the band and the fireworks, it shows WAY more of the backscreens which I feel are an important part of the show. The musical cues have so much more impact (for me anyway) when you can connect them to the nuclear test footage being shown (Tampere version is also missing the choir going "aaaaaaaaaaaaaaa" or whatever whenever a bomb explodes), or when you can see the peoples' faces and the various human accomplishments during the "we were here" section.

      Both versions are good of course, but I think the Tampere show had way more impact. It IS on the bands "home ground" (more or less) and it's a bigger productions and that is fitting to this song. I think that Floor also had her parents in the audience counts. It looks like she had even more energy and went all in to the very end! 😁🤘

    would love for you to watch the Tampere version as well!! it has a longer and different start, and also a longer and quite different ending, and even some of the middle parts are different as well, lol. that's the fun thing with Nightwish, they never do the same song exactly the same, constantly experimenting and trying different things to find a better experience for us.
    maybe if you turn the lyrics on, or check out the lyrics before your next reaction, it might be a bit easier for you to understand the meaning of the song a bit better. it's about the evolution of earth. all the way from the earth's creation and to beyond the end of mankind. and at the end the "We were here" is a celebration of humanity and that we were part of earth's history. and to us Nightwish fans, a celebration of being lucky enough to live at the same time as Nightwish! 😁🤘

Watching someone else be blown away by Nightwish is very satisfying, it brings a lot of fond memories of times past when listening to the songs myself for the first time. In the intro piece Troy is using an E-bow whilst playing his gorgeous PRS - its basically a pickup/magnet that is causing the strings to vibrate giving that long, endless note similar to a violin bow. Hence the name :o)

      When they perform "While your lips are still red" Troy uses the same tool because in the studio version they recorded it with violins. What I find interesting is most people comment that after listening the two versions, they prefer the sound of the guitar with the e-bow over the violin. I also think this sounds pretty cool.

    Ashley. I'm old enough to be your Grandfather, so I love you with the love of a Grandfather. You are a true spirit. We need more creatures like you on this planet.
    The total abandonment of your emotions tear at my heart. God bless you. As others have said, I feel the need to hug you. And I mean that in the nicest possible way.

    Wembley is a good version of this song, but let me just say; Tampere, Tampere, Tampere. The Tampere version will melt you. haha. Not that we want that, but it will push all the buttons. ;-)

    Thank you, Ashley, for your genuine and honest reaction...one of the best reactions I've seen to this performance. If it's any consolation, I was snivelling and dribbling the whole way through it with you...and I've watched this hundreds of times. It's what makes us human. Keep doing what you do, it's truly wonderful. Greetings from the UK

    I couldn't control my tears either. They flowed freely at about the same passages of the song as your tears flowed. That's how I know your reactions were truly genuine. Music, lyrics, everything....so universal, so wonderful and most beautiful!!!

    I’m a 44 y.o. bald guy that measures 1,99m (6’7”) and normally aren’t moved that easily by music. But Nightwish..!Damn girl, even I had a lump in my throat and tears welling up.. Especially Floor, as she has that uncanny ability to find a straight line into my soul, which is why my pet name for her is the Soul Piercer..

    While the Tampere version is the more preferred version to do, this version is pretty good as the sound mix is a little deeper (more bass) which is good.

      The Troy ebow part is a nice change of pace from the flute in the Tampere version....I think Floor killed it even more in the Tampere version... plus....syncronized fireworks!

    "In the teeth of these stupefying odds, it is you and I, in our _ordinariness,_ that are here. We _privileged_ few who won the lottery of birth against all odds - how dare we whine at our inevitable return to that prior state, from which the vast majority have never stirred. @@richardwest6358 this particular passage is a Dawkins quote - it's from his book Unweaving the Rainbow, the beginning of the section 'The anaesthetic of familiarity'.
      The one you refer to is 'There is grandeur in this view of life, with its several powers having been breathed *by the Creator* into a few forms, or into one; and that whilst this planet has gone cycling on, according to the fixed law of gravity, from so simple a beginning endless forms most beautiful and most wonderful have been, and are being, evolved.' - On the Origin of Species by Means of Natural Selection, or the Preservation of Favoured Races in the Struggle for Life

    The fact that you are willing to feel the songs so completely is a rare gift. I'm subscribing just for that. I feel these songs in a similar way and it's amazing to see a reactor feel it. This was the best reaction I've seen to this song ever. Thank you for that.
