Wow, this was one of the most insightful and touching pieces of journalism i have ever had an opportunity to witness. Thank you PBS and more importantly, thank you Frank Luntz. You still are a true american patriot and i will forever remember you as one. I'm appalled at the comments under this video and they represent everything Frank speaks out about. Its extremely saddening, that even after watching this, people don't wake up and realize the consequences of their destructive opinions. I'm here to build a better world, and i'll be the first to rebuild after the literal feces hits the fan.
John Smith That may be true, however I think what he had to say shed some light on what divides us and I’m a liberal. It didn’t change my opinion on Trump but I think that we owe it to ourselves to listen to our fellow citizens. Just a thought.
The greatest thing about this individual is his ability to see both sides. Most people choose a side and then dig in, completely unwilling to see the other side's perspective.
Are we are not taught in school to view or attack problems from many sides. Some are doing the same thing over and expecting change. Understanding different viewpoints. At least when I was going to school, maybe not now since the teachers seem to be pushing private manifestos.
Frank Luntz is a BS Artist to the Nth degree!! Watch his 2nd FRONTLINE interview --he has a beard and weighs about 100 pounds less. Then, tell me that he cares about everyone, especially after hearing his last 2-3 minutes: Trump absolutely knew what he was doing by sending his followers to the Capitol, but we don't need to punish Trump and the other planners of J6. We should just move on and move forward. I say we cannot move forward until we have accountability!
It's impossible to do this, as one side is so blatantly corrupt and wouldn't accept any true facts that are in any way viewed as negative against their cult leader. Your theory works on paper, Ma'am, not in today's real world.
I am 84 years old, always politically informed, and I, too, despair and have for some time. But it isn’t just politics or the news media or social media. It is the culture. Civility, manners, consideration for the opinions of others, those are things we used to have but have largely disappeared. Actually, most nations have a pretty short shelf life and in my opinion the USA is dangerously close to being over. “A house divided against itself cannot stand...”.
Dear Reta: Hang in there - do not be too cynical. There's always hope. Other societies are trying to do what is right for various groups and do not overburden their people - There's social change here and government seems out of control. We are fortunate Trump is a White Knight for the people, so things may get better.
The reason for this is that in your youth America was still a white-dominated society. The Hispanic population as much smaller, America still saw itself as a Christian country. Now a massive amount of people descendant from Christian families now see themselves as atheists. In your day they were an insignificant minority. In short, it is these changes that caused the increasing lack of social cohesion that results in the loss of a sense of shared identity and community.
P.S. Reta, Many people hadn't treated blacks and civil rights workers with respect, regard or tolerance 50 , 60 or 70 years ago. These mythological times, upon close examination, never really did exist.
there is an agenda being pushed by the world's elite and "the establishment" are compromised by them and are the avenue that agenda is pushed...layman's way to put it
@@skeeterbodeen8326 There's another interview he did a year after this one. Shortly after 01/06, but he's list a lot of weight and has a beard. He's unrecognizable.
He hits all the right notes. As a lefty who is also from the middle of the country, it shocks me sometimes how little cable news people seem to know about the heartland. Also love how harsh he was when talking about social media - it is LITERALLY rotting us from the inside. It gets worse and worse with time.
One year later and mr Luntz’ insight was a bullseye. He’s the only one who has been willing to tell it, besides Chris hedges..thx you mr luntz..and I am a huge liberal. I have not wanted to be here for the last 4 years..knowing this would/was happening before our eyes. Almost moved to Mexico, then Spain..now Canada I hope..it’s closer than New Zealand! Americans ignore things till it’s too late..
I don’t hate any fellow American. I do hate the constant barrage of lies, accusations and stifling time wasters who get rich because of their position.
You have never unfollowed someone, never wanted to not want to work next to someone whose political views are different from yours, never wanted to be friends with someone whose views are different from yours? You are not the norm but I hail you if that is true. I do not believe it though.
@@sunnifreyer2759 I love my fellow Americans, I hate Socialists and SJW's. I hate anyone who is so afraid of hearing an opposing idea. I do believe you should "Judge a person by the content of their character"
@Greg Bors If you are trying to say i am contradicting myself, i am not. Socialism is not a legitimate opposing idea, it's insanity, the 100 million people who died under it in the last century proves that. SJW push a victim-hood mentality so someone else is always to blame for your life which is so wrong and so divisive, no one else is to blame for the life you have. everyone should take personal responsibility for their life. that is what freedom is all about. i don't blame anyone else for the way my life has gone so far. i am from a lower middle class family who had plenty of hardships, but i am to blame for the hardships i currently have. I could have worked harder, applied myself more, made better decisions. my fault no one else is to blame.
@D Gh that is an awfully Racist thing to say about someone you know nothing about. What if I told you I am not white, would you apologize for calling me Racist. The problem is you let other people put you in a box and give you a the title they want you to have. White or Black or Hispanic or Asian, the color of your skin really does not matter, because we are all Americans. But SJW only wants to talk about our diferences in order to divide us. United we Stand Divided we fall. Divide and conquer is the their goal. Keep us fighting and hating each other over something as stupid as skin color, so that we do not have time to see what they are doing behind our backs.
these interviews are amazing, glad they put them out unedited, they are much better than all cut up into a directors narrative spin on a "documentary series".
You think they put anything out that isnt to CONTROL WHAT YOU BELIEVE?? LUNTZ...IS A CONTROLLED ESTABLISHMENT STOOGE. BECK didnt start the Tea Party...we were around bc of ROSS PEROT...PERIOD!!
@@classiqueliberal8576 I know right ... these interviews were so amazing. I've always been against Trump and Palin, disliked the Tea Party, but have a right wing disposition from a European point of view. These interviews finally made me understand the whole decade better (except that Schimdt one, typical left idpol) I see a method to the madness of this century now, why it happened, and why it's not as horrible as it's portrayed. I still have VERY strong criticisms of Trump and the GOP, but there are also issues that were finally being addressed for the first time in who knows how long. I don't think I'll ever support Trump, but I understand it all a bit better now. But then the whole eventual documentary was such a one sided selective shitshow again. Because no matter how many crooks inundated the banks, the banks were needed, and the responsibility was put to everyone to fix it. Without the banks, this country would have failed, and I know there are some voices out there that wanted to see our country fail. There were some voices out there that wanted a “do over” and they thought by burning it all down, with the banks, and with Trump, that somehow something better would arise. That’s pure foolishness, as anarchy would have risen. Our country, with its flaws, but also with its adaptability, would have been gone. The ideal of it would have been gone, and the anarchists and dictators would have won.
@Brooklyn Medina Barack Obama won the presidency twice. Don't generalize. Winning twice doesn't seem like "white folks" didn't like him. Some white people voted for him because of his color or regardless of it.
Great interview. I'm binge watching all the videos in this FRONTLINE series. They have all been excellent---a wonderful way to pass time during the coronavirus lockdown.
It is so good you post and show these videos without commercial breaks. This is also so much better than MSM whether you are liberal or conservative. Kudos to frontline and smart comments here.
I've watched a fair amount of Frontline interviews that are used to put together the program it was a part of. Not sure I've yet seen one as profound or sobering as this one.
Jesse B I watched that and some of his points were meaningful but now I’m thinking he’s full of shit with his recent arrest. One of Bannon’s points was that corporations have lost all moral center (optimize for short term profit at all costs to society, workers, customers, future profits). He then goes and steals donor money for that stupid wall.
I enjoy these asinine non-factual opinions. Please do go on. I’m pro 2nd amendment and pro libertarian, please tell me when I’m supposed to fight and kill my neighbors for engaging in their democratic right to carry a dissenting opinion. Please do tell.
@@illuddivinus3309 The key words here: "cold war", with the emphasis being on cold. The US and USSR never engaged in a direct war. Likewise, Americans will not actually go to war. It's a contest between the two ideologies, which will most likely not turn into a full scale civil war. Why? The same reason an actual war never happened between the US and USSR, that is, too many people have too much to lose. Eventually one ideology will prevail. Hence, "COLD civil war".
mop mop lol was your Wikipedia copy and paste useful to you or me? I know what the Cold War was/is. I grew up with Reagan and Tom Clancy. For sure. I'm pretty far left leaning but this was a breath of fresh air. I can listen to Frank and understand where he's coming from and empathize with him. The way he his thoughts lacked sensationalism yet were filled with genuine emotion and concern was so great to hear. I genuinely respect this guy.
Yeah, but Frank is a sellout that's part of the GOP driven divide to begin with. I think he knows Trump is an idiot. He almost shows his exhaustion in GOP focus groups. He's still in it for the coin now. His soul is gone.

Long before there ads I decided Trump has to be replaced. However I now am only a quarter way through this Frontline program. I have always found Frontline to be presenters of facts absolutely zero bias or spin. I will see if Frank Luntz changes my mind in any way.

Agreed. I’m also taken back by the comments on this one. So many just pouring out anger and frustration and very few just trying to respectfully disagree, (though there are a few so there is hope).
Frank Lutz is responsible for many of the misinformation and "specialized" wording, I saw an interview with him where he said " We have killed the Goose that laid the Golden Egg" but he did not admit he own part in that division.
How about we also stop funding hammas... America should neither fund Israel nor hammas. If you believe hammas deserve funding and not Israel.. you are part of problem.
Respectfully, COVID initially had the potential to unite us, but the political forces in this country chose to weaponise this. The truth is both sides are playing the same game of “politics” as usual, and no one is paying attention. It’s a comedy of errors. No one sees the forest beyond the trees in their own back yard. What this gentleman is talking about is at the very root of all the issues facing all of us. It is the lack of proper, constructive, sincere, communication, lack of mutual respect, and a lack of personal and individual responsibility on all fronts. What he is talking about is a struggle that is not only here in the US, but is mirrored in all other countries of the world in some shape or form. Voices like this need to be heard and amplified. It is a voice that speaks to our collective humanity. Wow.
@@jackieivanovic8801 there's no "both sides" on this. One side literally called it a hoax and has done everything they can to downplay and politicize it, the other listened to scientific consensus.
@@yoshiki7757 WRONG! There are always two sides. It is imperative we have two sides in everything, because it provides a type of natural checks-and-balance. Unfortunately, to benefit from diversity of opinions requires a conversation with a second and third sentence, not just a headline, but there is no BANG in that. Example, your comment does not offer an opening to conversation. It is a statement- the other side is bad- DROP MIC. That is how we got Trump. That is why there was no "blue wave." The "other" side is still there and they are as American as you. Claiming victory or superiority, without attempt at understanding, at the expense of another will ALWAYS sustain and worsen division. That is fact for BOTH sides. Again, main topic of the piece is DIVISION.

Funny, never asked me how I'm feeling, I'm elated, knowing the 2 massive prison barges Trump had moved to gitmo before he left office are being filled up, and executions are soon to follow
Luntz has no idea what Trump is doing, who's been arrested, who's in Gitmo, charged with Treason, who's facing military tribunals, who's been taken to Tierra del Fuego to face execution, or anything else,...
all these people praising luntz must be 12 years old... if you knew whlo he was and what he did for bush and other republicans, you'd know political mercenaries like luntz are the problem in politics.
Watched Part 1, first Bannon interview, Mooch interview, now this. Will get to the 2nd part, then remaining interviews. Luntz is always very insightful.
Luntz described the Obama inaugural perfectly. He omitted to add the words of Mitch McConnell on the following day which were to effect: "Our only quest is to make sure Obama is a one-term president". McConnell tried. He tried everything and wasted eight years trying. Interesting that Frank Luntz no longer associates himself with the GOP.
This is definitely not balanced. If you understood this man’s background and the bidding he did for the Republican Party, you’d know this man is anything but balanced. For all his praising of Obama he immediately names a negative aspect of the compliment he just gave him and tries to label him (and to a greater extent the entire Democratic Party) completely out of touch. Meanwhile he gives all the praise to 45 and the one thing he says that is remotely critical of him was saying that “his greatest strength is his greatest weakness.” He makes it seem fair and honest, but that’s his job. As they say, it’s the gift of the silver tongue. One last thing to note, was his gloomy interpretation of where the country is heading. He claims the reason our democracy is going down the tube is because it’s everyone’s fault; politicians, the media, the journalists, the people. Not once does he single himself out for all the backwards progress we made in terms of climate change. You ever wonder why suddenly we went from calling it “Global Warming” to “Climate Change” and why we the common folk still even debate whether or not it’s a real thing? Look no further than this guy. He is the reason why enough people in our legislative branch, executive branch, the news organizations and the greater population in the US still are so polarized on the notion the earth’s temperature has been increasing for the past century as a result of man made activity. We are one of the few that still debate the science of it, and it’s all this guys fault. The man’s a shill and a sellout.
@@Fgomez3 It's even more humerous when he leaves out the National Enquirer. Yes, the National Enquirer, who's owner is a friend of Trump and is the guy, who handed over vital Enquirer's own Research results including Vox Pops, all carried out in those places this guy has stated Democrats forgot. The Enquirer knew everything about those voters (including many of their accents) that Trump would appeal to, information the Democrats couldn't get from the old ways they'd always used. That's a little largely unknown snippet from the Pollsters. Who hasn't even bought one copy of the National Enquirer in their life ? Often drawn in by the madness of the Front covers, even if it's just for a piece of a self congratulatory assurance that you're not likely to believe anything inside. You did go inside, just this once you tell yourself. This could apply to millions, and these sales might form part of their Research. Trump used the research, gave it to Jared to work with and held Rallies in the places no one else did. , Clinton didn't do this kind of research and dismissed the thought. This is where the Electoral College Votes live. This is where Trump won. Trump has called his voters White Trash and has said that he supposed he was White Trash too. The only difference Trump added is , that he's got money. He's Rich, they're not .Politics is a dirty game.
Fantastic interview and well expressed. I too feel like Frank Luntz, although a pollster who used to specialize in the Republican arena, has a great deal of insight for both sides and can both support and critique both sides very well. I ordinarily would feel a bit more hopeful than he about our future except that right now at least, he's right about social media. As long as there is nothing to stop anything and everything from getting out there as "fact" instead of at least being stamp marked as "editorial" and "opinion", we may be leading ourselves down the path to losing our status in the world. I do think from all this that having good character and civility actually makes a huge difference. What I've seen from the last two administrations is that having the loudest voice or a softer voice that ignores half of America definitely isn't what it will take to keep America truly great.
PLEASE treat others with respect. No matter what they have said about a candidate or politics. There is no excuse for being undecent simply because you disagree with someone, and if you use someone else's bad behavior as an excuse for your own you are just as bad. Why didn't some Americans like Obamacare? Because they were told they didn't like it. My personal experience with Obamacare: I was laid off from my job. For a while, I continued to pay for my insurance with COBRA, which was expensive. When I switched to the Obamacare markets, I was able to get the same level of insurance, but since I was out of work, the amount I paid was much lower. This marketplace insurance bridged me through to 65, when I could move to Medicare and make my retirement official. I never thought I would have to use Obamacare, because I envisioned working until I retired. But my experience with Obamacare was overwhelmingly positive; it was there for me when I needed it.
This is exactly what we need to heal ourselves and this great country. Dialogue with the intent to listen and not attempting to defend our opinions. I felt his emotions 4k all the way.
Great piece. Thank you for presenting both sides of these deceptively simple arguments. Thank you for providing clarity to me and giving me great, invincible wisdom...I’m crying as I write this.. I like Republicans again.
Watch Luntz's second interview on Frontline. His true colors come out in that interview. He says Trump is 100% responsible for J6 but we shouldn't punish him. We should just move on. Frank Luntz is a BS Artist. He is like the majority of the GOP. He's just better at hiding it than most of them are. He was one of the key players, along with Bannon, who worked on the "Division" that got trump elected. He one of those people that is great at giving back-handed compliments.
Watching him cry as he talked about why he got into politics was absolutely heartbreaking. I feel so much for Frank; it must be borderline impossible to live a happy life when you know so much and how fix the country, but you have nobody to listen to you who will help you get it done.
Bruh, both parties bailed out the big businesses that caused the rift. Your work and pandering to the wealthy since the 80s helped this divide. Just a reminder if you forgot.
I watched his 2nd interview 1st (bearded, about 100 pounds lighter), and his attitude that we shouldn't punish trump and those responsible for planning J6 and should instead just move on and move forward tells me he does NOT care about our country.
@@B_Bodziak I listened to enough of this guy's interview that I got a strong right-wing whiff from his rhetoric he is clearly engaging in leaa than subtle revision of History where regards Trump's Legacy and he was taking some again not-so-subtle shots at Obama. I do not regard him as being a both sides individual he definitely has strong right-wing sentiments. Every time he spoke the words let me set the record straight or words to that effect I became more and more convinced that he was a right-wing operative and I started rolling my eyes and saying I've heard enough this guy's on an agenda.
I'm watching this 3 years later and can't believe how much Luntz regards trump as an ordinary guy in this interview. He sounds pragmatic, knowledgable and intelligent. I didn't agree with many of his characterizations then about his observations and don't now. Here, 3 years later, my observations have proven more now than they did 3 years ago, that donald is not any ordinary guy deserving any credibility, and thats being kind. The man is a lying lunatic and has earned all the mocking that he received. You got him wrong Frank.
I can’t take Frank seriously. He cries all the way to the bank. American politics has always been rough, and it should be. People whose political passion causes them to commit crimes will be locked up. End of story.
This is one of the most unbiased and moving things I’ve ever seen on our political landscape. I also fear that my children and their children will be living through a civil war. Nobody wins in a civil war
What scares me the most here is that I have followed Mr. Luntz for nearly 20 years. He has rarely been wrong because what he shares is what his research shows. Listen close and pay attention and put your HATE aside for he will be very right. I write this Jan 31 2021, over a year after this interview and he is right on.
FloridaSun72 Trump started with the birther nonsense, the press hit him for it, he didn’t like it so he hit back, they hit back by calling him on his lies, and he hit back with the fake news and other attacks. Both sides accelerated it to what the hostility level is at now.
Some African Americans hate him for choosing to help wallstreet mortgage lenders over their communities. Jacobin did a story on that Obama administration decision. Others hate him for not scaling back NSA spying in Americas. There's much more. This guy is an establishment bootlicker.
I'm sure there's some truth to what Luntz said, but it's not the full story. He spoke about how civil and orderly Tea Party protests were. Well, I live near DC and saw some of those protests, and I remember people hanging Obama in effigy, wearing t-shirts with Obama in white face as the joker, etc. Racism was always an element of the resentment.
Ramming Obamacare down people's throats, injecting race into everything every chance he got, after running on that he wouldn't. Him letting Otto Warmbier rot, while stopping the world because a kid with darker skin took a bomb looking device to a school science fair. For getting a free pass from the media no matter what he did, and for the bailouts with no one being held accountable. For saying "black people aren't making this up" after Michael Brown..where "hands up don't shoot" WAS a made up lie. For dropping hundreds of MILIIONS OF TAXPAYERS dollars in CASH by clandestine night drop to Iran, after allowing them billions of dollars that enabled their leadership to continue to being tyrants and develop a nuclear program. For being anti-Israel. I could go all day.
I do 'hate politics as they are now' and I did 'move to NZ'. But for love and marriage, before Palin, and not to escape the nation I love. As an American I am hurting, really hurting that my home is so divided, chaotic and unjust. It's not the nation my grandfather endured a B-17's tailgun for. I dread visiting my divided family who I love but who also dread seeing me, all of it owing to identity politics. Frank , I hope you are okay. I have heard you and I care about you. Thank you Mr Luntz for your enormous ability to take it all in, analyse it, and a willingness to share your hard earned truth. We need you, and you need us from what you said. We all need our better angels. By the way, NZ isn't a panacea either. I've been here two decades and I have studied this place each day, formally and informally. But we have this problem here as well: we are populated by humans. A few selfless and generous ones, heaps of ordinary ones, and a few who could do with some reflection and repentance. Currently the latter are not leading our government. But they have and they will again. Like America, we are divided, especially on fronts of economic disparity and justice. We like to believe we are egalitarian here, and that we always were. There are beacons of truth to this belief. First to old age pensions, first to suffrage, first to public healthcare. But we have so much to answer for from our colonial past. The common argument to gloss over crimes of colonialism is that it wasn't as bad here as everywhere else during the exploitive Age of Exploration. But it was bad and the past still echos despite the popular tendency to cover up. The best way here is to be as ignorant of history as possible, then blame the disenfranchised for not trying hard enough. Much the same as the rest of the world. We have hate, we have violence, we have incarceration of minorities in private prisons, and we have a long tail of poor educational and life outcomes. We have families living out of cars. The social safety net and the strength of the middle class have retreated like our alpine glaciers. I fear we too can see the 'End of the Golden Weather.' I keep going each day, however, in hope that we humans can also improve and heal. I'm just a recent artist trying to shelter from the enormity. Perhaps I should do more to be the change I seek. I did some of that as a teacher for as long as I could. It is easier to create and be immersed in abstraction, form and colour. But the public radio or internet is often on as I cannot help but attempt to listen, observe, analyse and communicate as much as I can. But in so doing I too fall into the traps of outrage and partisanship. Sometimes I hate. When I do so I try to think to the Millenials. In going back to university a few years back I got to know many young people, the very best and brightest, and they are brighter than most of us. I did not encounter the degree of cynicism I recall from my youth despite their knowing the existential burdens they've been left to shoulder by their forebears. There is optimism and idealism. Our best hope for keeping our republics is for us to resist squashing this out of them. If the Boomers and Gen Xers can't make our society more whole, then we should step back and let them lead...so we can all keep breathing.
“We have the right to be angry, but we don’t have the right to be poisonous.” What’s happening to this beautiful country is so sad. I love you America, I’m so sorry we did this to you. 😔
These are are very profound words of wisdom in life: "You can can only be divided if you don't understand. You can only be divided if you don't empathize. We may not agree fundamentally BUT if you have enough respect for my point of view and I respect yours, we are not divided, we simply disagree."
Keep in mind this was eleven months ago, and he's being proven right. Got the leader of Republicans in Texas openly discussing succession..... just wow
Great stuff Frank. I salute your honesty and analysis. I am half Ukrainian, so I know how you feel about your heritage. Let's start a ground swell, listen to the people and take their frustrations, concerns and ideas to the people responsible for making change happen. TH-cam is one vehicle we can use to populate the concepts and ideas to the masses. Will it be hard, hell yes, will it we difficult? Dam right, will it be worth it - YES. If not us, then who? If not now, then when? If not the peoples will - then who's' will? I am behind you 100% - Bring in Chomsky, bring in Robert, Reich, there is so much intellectual talent that can be harnessed - it can be a different America. Let’s remind the “Politicians” who pays their salary. No more Taxation without Representation! Reach Out - I am ready!
Mr. Lutz talks about his fellow citizens as if they were children who can't read a newspaper! In Europe there is much bigger emphasis on one's own responsibility and ability to think! Thank God!
A friend of mine who lives in China knows some soldiers who joke and laugh about how America is becoming more divided. Divide and conquer is one of the oldest tactics in war and we are doing it ourselves.
He gave such a descriptive description of what he saw at these different inaugurations that I felt like I was there. Trump shouldn’t of never been in office and God willing will NEVER be in office again.
I don't know about y'all but I really appreciate the depth of the interviews, and broad range of interviewees in this Frontline series. I'm encouraged by the discussions in the comment sections for the most part. Even the most staunch sounding partisans on either side (myself included) seem to realize we as a country can't go on this divided. I think Trump has been a mostly terrible President and an even worse person, but I've enjoyed listening to Steve Bannon's perspective as much as anyone toward the liberal side. Understanding each other is hopefully the first step back toward empathy and a consensus-building process in American civic and political life.
Trump is PRESIDENT because the Living God of the Scriptures has put him there. Yahweh rules in the kingdom of the children of men, and He gives it to whomever He chooses. Law and order and righteousness were trampled under foot for decades but the Lord heard the prayers of the righteous and for the moment, evil is being held off. You thinking that the President is terrible only reveals your ignorance of the Scripture, and you will rue the day you have neglected the God of the universe. The Lord rebuke you...........
@@chadlarsen7151 I do not infer that President Trump reminds me of Messiah, what I have said is that the Lord God of the universe puts powers into power and takes powers down. Read carefully what God says and Daniel writes and what Paul writes to the Romans in 13. President Trump is a human being, flawed as are all human beings, but he is in the place of leadership for this nation for a season to rebuild what has been damaged by the ungodly and godless, but it is for a season. Judgement will come to America, not because of the leaders, but because the church has become apostate and divided by the pharisees running the business of church without the Holy Spirit. On Christ the solid ROCK I stand, all other ground is sinking sand........
Mr. Luntz is brilliant. He says everything I’ve been feeling for decades and I’m 36. We need to clean up our country and the world. War is at a tipping point.
Myth: this was never a NICE country. There are amazing moments or times ... there are always very good and very bad people with the rest of us in between. I am reading Fredrick Douglas ...was America nice? I spoke with Black people often on my New York buses... Rather, they decided to speak to me: "Obama is not Black enough. He don't live the black we live right here." Yup.
Fact: Unlike what your typical leftist/liberal believes, all cultures are not equal and one culture is not just as good as the other. It's a prime reason as to why leftists will never understand human nature. Though, they think they are the authority figure.
White Americans above all adore myth making. The Wild West, The American Dream, the Great Society. The US was a nice country. Yeah? I wonder if they told MLK that or James Baldwin that. Maybe that is what the cop said to George Floyd while he knelt on his neck. I nearly felt sick at his outpouring of sentimentality. Spare us!
Frank Luntz is incredible. I'm confident we're occupy opposite sides of the political spectrum. Nonetheless, his intelligence and analytic powers are remarkable . His grasp of the electorate is so broad & deep.
I wish more people would listen to this and take his advice. "What we say and how we say it can affect change. Negative comments hurt us and make us no Great"
Amazing interview by PBS !!! Frank talks politics without bias and impartial. It is scary at the end he foretells the pseudo-violence in 2020 because country is polarized and divided.
Washington forgot that work for us, that’s what we voted for. If all the experience they have worked we wouldn’t be failing our own citizens. This is deeper than Trump, he’s just the beginning.
This is one of the most sincere and honest interview I’ve seen in a long time. Frank L speaks such truth for both sides and the divide has to come to a stop now or will loose the great American experiment.
I agree with Luntz on social media. It once was seen as something positive but, of course, people have turned it into something very negative. It probably needs to be banned but that will be hard to do.
Thank you so much for this interview. The world needs to listen to the words of this man and take them seriously. America is the leader of the Democratic free world.
Mr luntz is an incredible man! He has awesome insight about the American ideals and thinking. I got a bit torn watching him almost lose his composure. I’ve been telling friends for years that we are heading exactly where he is warning against. Stand up and stay strong! I don’t like a Lot of you but I love all of you! United we stand!
The honesty was nice. And as a person who goes around our country daily our country is not as bad as these folks say. Everybody I encounter is generally friendly.
finally, a real interview! This is good. I was moved at the end. And I'm very frightened, too. People aren't getting it. They don't understand the consequences. It's terrifying. And we still play the blame game. The Constitution was our referee of decency. It's being gutted. I feel the poison, too.
Keep in mind that for years Luntz has twisted reality and sold BS to the gullible. He is reprehensible, and part of the reason you have Trump is because he has done that, and helped create a voting populace that feels threatened and fearful, and is easily sucked in by con artists like Trump.

I was wrong - and Frank, you are STILL a great American even if you are a Republican. Excellent video - thank you for posting this. You spoke for so many of us, regardless of our political affiliations.
This a brave and honest interview by someone whose opinion I have listened to before. We have a responsibility to make a choice in how we communicate with those we disagree with
You beat me to this comment. The really sad part is that, he's not evil. He believed in what he was doing, most of them do. And I genuinely feel bad for him on a human level that at this stage he's now realizing he was deluded. Losing hope is a bleak place to be. For anyone. Even if they deserve it
@@PaperRaines I love you for realizing that. It's a bad place to be when one discovers they have been part of doing such harm and knowing that you can't go back and fix it, it's broken beyond repair and you have to try and start over knowing there are other blind human beings who will make the mistakes you have and tear down what you are trying to build.
If you listen and not try to attack others you will hear he did say he was responsible. In fact he said he helped create some of the language used to divide this country. See that's actually him taking responsibility but you don't see that you just want to judge someone. Because everybody knows you're not responsible for anything right.
@@jamesmcd71 I'm going to make a assumption that you're a religious person based on your username. So that tells me that you are of the belief that simply saying "I'm sorry" absolves a person from their past, and therefore all criticism stops right there. Think you guys call it forgiveness..... well I'm sorry, that's not how the actual real world works For my part, I said I feel bad for him. I said he's not evil. I said he believed in what he was doing. The fact is, it doesn't matter. He was part of the crew that lit the matches and now he feels terrible for the fire that's out of control. His contrition is admirable, but it doesn't matter. You know how i know that? Because I did pay attention to the interview. He's the one who's sobbing in the end, because he knows nothing he apologizes for now matters. He knows where this is ending, and he knows it's his fault and the fault of many others like him So call us harsh, or judgemental, or call us whatever you'd like. In the end everyone sits down to the banquet of their mistakes. Frank Luntz isn't dealing with his well. For myself and the other liberals here who are not giving Frank a pass, we'll deal with ours. Our mistakes however, didn't end the republic.......
This is a Great interview he has some great insight. I appreciate his discussion of how America wants a Politician who is green & his look at ‘occupy Wall Street Vs Tea Party’ & the Health Insurance reform. And towards the end he gets real, raw and deeply honest. ♥️♥️

That may be true, however I think what he had to say shed some light on what divides us and I’m a liberal. It didn’t change my opinion on Trump but I think that we owe it to ourselves to listen to our fellow citizens. Just a thought.
The greatest thing about this individual is his ability to see both sides. Most people choose a side and then dig in, completely unwilling to see the other side's perspective.
Couldn't agree more.
Or…he’s just a rank opportunist.
Thank you for sharing your experience.
We, as a Nation, have always had divisions. The solutions to any given issue has not always been achieved without bloodshed.
P.S. Reta, Many people hadn't treated blacks and civil rights workers with respect, regard or tolerance 50 , 60 or 70 years ago. These mythological times, upon close examination, never really did exist.

Wow. This man is brilliant. I don't necessarily agree with all of his views, but to be so passionate, knowledgeable, and articulate about something is impressive. Thank you for opening yourself up and sharing with us.
This guy is an absolute IDIOT !!!!! I needed a shower after listening to this used car salesman!!!!! I felt like I was covered in thick stinking grease !!!!!!!
I agree that this man is brilliant about most things but he’s completely gaslighting about trump.
Don’t agree with this guy ideologically, but he does a great job of explaining what pro-Trump folks are feeling.
Frank Luntz is really intelligent!
Oh yea, you don’t have to agree with him to recognize he is good at his job. He has an uncanny ability read people’s feelings and gather information from it.

Thank you Frontline. Thank you, Mr Luntz-- for saying so much of what needs to be said. Especially about the toxicity of politics and social media.
all these people praising luntz must be 12 years old... if you knew whlo he was and what he did for bush and other republicans, you'd know political mercenaries like luntz are the problem in politics.
Judging from many of the comments here very few of you from either side took the time to actually listen and take to heart what was just said.

Brilliant. Love how this guy has given a very honest balanced account of the history he witnessed first-hand.
About 70% of what he said is bias. Which isn’t surprising he is a Republican pollster. But to suggest this is an balanced account is humorous.
He's Rich, they're not .Politics is a dirty game.
you must literally know nothing about politics or luntz's background... complete political mercenary who is himself part of the problem

Please. He needs to grow up.
But didn’t he help build it all?
Bruh, both parties bailed out the big businesses that caused the rift. Your work and pandering to the wealthy since the 80s helped this divide. Just a reminder if you forgot.

Spot on! Luntz talks about revisionism by others. This whole interview is an exercise in revisionism...by him.
He’s still presenting our current situation as both sides are equally at fault.
Great interview
I really felt what this man was saying
And I think he honestly cares about everyone
He cares more about the country. He sees the writing on the wall... We're saying goodbye to our Constitution. How will it survive this.
I watched his 2nd interview 1st (bearded, about 100 pounds lighter), and his attitude that we shouldn't punish trump and those responsible for planning J6 and should instead just move on and move forward tells me he does NOT care about our country.

I'm watching this 3 years later and can't believe how much Luntz regards trump as an ordinary guy in this interview. He sounds pragmatic, knowledgable and intelligent.
I didn't agree with many of his characterizations then about his observations and don't now. What a great interview. I never understood why people hated Obama. Thank you for the great explanation and I finally now get it.
Some African Americans hate him for choosing to help wallstreet mortgage lenders over their communities. Jacobin did a story on that Obama administration decision. Others hate him for not scaling back NSA spying in Americas. There's much more.

@@justinpickens3296
...and in the absence of racism, there IS legitimate criticism of Obama's policies.
Ask Frank what part he played in that?
I fear we too can see the 'End of the Golden Weather.'
I keep going each day, however, in hope that we humans can also improve and heal.
