Tony, you are a good teacher. All the things you say, those are easy to get. That using the old sole to protect your hands when you pulled the welt through the buffer / sander was a fantastically smart thing. Also, when you were talking about take the time to do it right, so you do not have unhappy customers because you did not clean out the footbed! Take the time to do it right. Amen. My Dad always said if a job is worth doing, do it right! He was hard over on that concept. The older I get the more I appreciate that. You do things well, right. I appreciate that. Great video and as ALWAYS, fantastic work.
This is exactly what I want done to my 1907's but with the light instead of medium. That's what I've wanted to do since the day I bought them. I just heard of you guys yesterday and have done a bit of binge watching of your videos. The passion and craftsmanship is truly amazing. You not only have passion for the boots, but also a passion for the tools and work that goes into crafting these boots! It's almost therapeutic to watch it all come together. I'll be sending you some boots soon I hope.
You are an absolute master of your craft. Thank you for the video and teaching us something. Will definitely be sending you a pair of my boots when the time comes.
I appreciate the time and skill you put into sanding the heel blocks to get the proper balance. I have a pair of expensive, hand made boots that weren't balanced and had to send them back for repair because the resulting pressure created at the heel breast caused a lot of discomfort.
I have a pair of Redwing 8890 mock toes in the Charlotte store now! Hope they come out this good! Similar rebuild taking the wedge sole off, replacing with lugs.
What a beautiful pair of boots. And what a beautiful re-craft. Those boots are fantastic. Without a doubt...those are best looking moc-toe boots I have ever seen. I really want a pair. (With the re-crafted new soles, of course). Gorgeous boots.
Absolutely beautiful boots! Love the way you guys restored these, looking much better now! Never been a fan of wedge soles, unless I'm breaking in a pair of step-down (logger) boots. I'll use the wedge boots as a "recovery" boot
These came out great. I love those wedge soles on a work boot, they are really comfortable, but they don't look good on a casual boot in my opinion. You seriously upgraded those boots, I would love to own a pair of those
Loving your videos guys. You are clearly a teaching Cobbler. I wish you were closer. I’d drop everything to apprentice under you all. Great work as always!
This has been the most informative video on replacing the soul in the work on this shoe I have ever seen on TH-cam. Thank you so very much for sharing your wisdom your experience. Keep up the good work when I need cobbler work, you will be the man that I contact thank you.
That video is very informative. He is a good teacher as well as an artist and an expert at his craft. I like to fool around with leather crafts but I will never match that guy. I can tell that is the voice of experience talking in that video. He has developed a muscle memory for that stitching and can read the feel of the leather: he works with leather as opposed to working on leather. This is by far the best video I have seen on resoling boots. I have a pair of iron rangers and when I am ready for a resole I will send it to him. Thanks for the video and again, my compliments on a job very well done.
As others have said, this is the most informative cobbler re-craft video ever! Great job, Tony. You and your team have re-crafted my 1000 Mile boots and a pair of Allen Edmonds dress shoes that I’ve owned for over 20 years. I just bought a pair of used Allen Edmonds dress shoes online. I’ll be sending them off to Tony as soon as they arrive. Shoot, I’m gonna watch this video again!
Those boots are some fine a$$ looking boots. Thank you so much for teaching us some of your boot rebuilding skills. Top notch skills. Keep up the good work!
Would love to have a grinding machine that cobblers have. Would be great for sharpening knives, lawn mower blades and anything else you need to grind.....
@@WyattDadCobblerCompany makes sense. I'd assume it adds a little warmth to the boot, perhaps at the expense of being a bit more drafty than the same panel made of leather?
Hello sir. I am very impressed with your work. I worked in a shoe factory when I was 14 and you brought a lots of memories and I thank you for that. However I live in Canada and I have two boots that I needed to get done by you, what do you suggest I should do also how much do you charge for two pairs. Please and thank you.
Amazing work! Great video. Thanks. I just had my black Iron Rangers resoled with blue midsole and lug 100's. What might you recommend for a color midsole for my Iron Rangers in copper rough color? Thanks again, you are an amazing Cobbler.
Great video like always! Is it possible to have a logger heel on a lowered 1" heel? I always see the 1" heels have a block heel like here. Was also curious if one of your locations have a drop off for the weekends when you arent there.
You do a great job I would definitely be interested in getting my iron rangers redone they are new but red wing honestly does a horrible job on the welts and soles. I sent back 3 pairs finally they at least had the uppers with matching thickness of leather. Not sure why they have gone downhill cause my first iron rangers years ago were perfect. What is the range you charge for something like that?
oh my goodness my friend what a beautiful job i mean really you are going to have a very happy customer, man i have a pair of 875 red wing moc toes and i would love to have you do mine just like that. i don’t know how to reach you.
Tony, I have a brand-new pair of Carolina 6" "Ferric," moc-toe, that have never been resoled, and have very little wear on them, but have that exact issue you described, under the ball of my left foot only. When I'm sitting down, in a car seat for example, it feels as if I have small pebbles in my boot, and it's very annoying. Having seen Weston, from "Rose Anvil," cut a similar style Carolina 8' moc-toe in half, I'm pretty sure that these do not have cork, but rather foam as part of the foot bed. Any guesses why this could be, and any possible quick fixes. I know that you're very busy, and without looking at the boot in question, would only be speculating, but any amount of insight you could offer, would be very much appreciated. Thank you, and best wishes
@@WyattDadCobblerCompany Thank you for your response. Normally I would, but I actually picked these boots up at Boot Barn as part of a mis-matched pair for $56, instead of the MSRP $230. They were a custom order pair (9.5D left, 10D right) that the customer never picked up, and they turned out to be the perfect size difference for me, as my left foot, is slightly smaller than my right. I doubt that Boot Barn would allow that. I intended on having them resoled, and upgraded to leather welts, and a "step-down heel w/ a lug out-sole" eventually anyhow. I guess I'll be sending them to you, sooner than expected. And at the purchase price, it's all the more worth it. Please keep up the great work
Simply put Oliver, Japan has always revered old school Americana. They bought up bourbon when it wasn’t popular in the 80s and 90s, bought up all the looms when Levi Strauss closed their US plants, even Yuketen founder Yuki Matsuda went to Maine and got inspiration from Quoddy in making his sought after shoes. So needless to say the Japanese have a huge obsession with Red Wing boots. There’s even magazines in Japan dedicated to all Red Wing, in particular the Heritage Collection. So needless to say Red Wing makes one offs for Japan because of the demand and admiration. I’ve been looking for a pair of these 9003 Woolrich versions for a long time. Very jealous!

The old cobbling machines are crazy. Does anyone even make them anymore? Every one I’ve seen seems OLD. Even redwings machines are old.
There are a few machines being made today, but the majority are old. They aren’t hard to rebuild and they last forever when taken care of properly
Such a cool looking boot with the wool and leather. Wonder how they hold up when worn.
Worn as a casual boot, they hold up good. I wouldn’t recommend working in them. That wool is a cosmetic feature

Yes, the heels can be lowered if you want. Our only after hours drop is mail.
Quick question, do you use just really thick shoulder leather for the midsole, or a normal outsole leather, simply used as the midsole?
We use outsole leather.
