Now retired after 30 years of teaching at a business college I agree completely. I loved teaching but I had colleagues who hated both the teaching and the students 😂
It really depends on the institution and field of study you are in. I had a few instances where some of my professors taught like a high-school teacher let alone in large classrooms.
First of all I love Galway, particularly the Aran Islands. Second, I was following your travel channel before I became a professor. Now I am in my second year as a professor on a tenure track. Third, the best professors are education professors because the vast majority trained as K-12 teachers and gained teaching experience before becoming professors. That may sound self-promoting since I am one, but it was my experience as an undergrad and it remains my opinion today. Fourth, I do not know how it will ever change since world religions change faster than academia, but college should be about the students first. In the rest of the civilized world the customer comes first. Students are our customers, and they should be the priority. Perhaps R1 universities should have professors who do not teach, only research. But if students are involved, we need to do our best by them because they are the future of our society. (Keep posting. I will keep watching.)
Hope students who attend major universities pay attention - teaching is not going to get a faculty member promoted. Some will be good teachers in spite of its minor impact on promotion but you rapidly become aware of the fact that all the rewards are derived from you research output. Not mentioned but committee work is given lip service.

Yeah. Some were not happy campers
