It's amazing how much Dallas has changed in the past ten years.. So many more high rise buildings now, just north of downtown, that are not even built yet in this video.
@DL1011 You are correct. It is a -700, as the engine mount is a square shape, and although you cannot see it in this picture, on the -300s, the flap actuators are far more pointy on the -300s and -500s.
Flew to Love Field from Houston. A few months ago in cold weather and a downpour. I think SW is one of the most reliable airlines, and those 737, though cramped, is a workhorse.
Thanks for the comment. I don't often fly into Love, but probably will have more opportunities now that the Wright restrictions are no longer in play. It's very hard to get a downtown arrival most of the year as the winds favor the south. The few other times I have been on this approach since this video, it was at night and the weather was less than optimal for shooting video.
This is the more "benign" landing. I'd like to see a video from the east or west for 13R, or 13L. Those go about 6000, or 7000 feet over DFW (15 miles away) then dive for the runway. From the ground, those approaches look awesome. Hope someone has a video of that. Great video, though. Cool downtown Dallas view.
Just uploaded a similar view, but more of a cloudy day. Nice to see what it would've looked like on a sunnier day. Would be interesting to get a view right now after the spring flooding they've been having this past weekend. Thoughts and prayers for the victims of this devastating spring "stormy" weather the past week-month.
@RickMakesGoodVideos I think I was in row 3. WN doesn't assign seats, so I don't remember exactly what it was. But it was the A-side..in the 2nd or 3rd row.
@rtfe83able The winglets can throw just about anyone off. I still have trouble instantly recognizing the series family when there are winglets involved.
@rtfe83able This is most surely a -700 series aircraft. It is most evident from the wing structure and NG engine mounting pylon for the newer engine type associated with the -600, -700, -800, 900.
LOL, I am going to record my takeoff today and I am kinda worried about what to do when I record, I don't want the passenger next to me thorwing w afit because I have it going!
I thought it was a great but short flight. If I could come back as something else it would be a B-737, What a great airplane. If you were a pilot would you prefer one long 4 or 5 hour flight or a day of jumping smaller cities? I'd prefer the later. Thanks
I'm flying into DAL next week (3/12) from San Antonio. I want to film a takeoff and landing, but I'm new to doing so. I'd like to know when you think the best time is to begin filming, if you have a minute.
If you were to sit where you were. The engine strut (holder) would go over the wing. If you sat behind the wing. You would notice the flap difference, the fairing canoes on the 300 were sharper not squarish like the 700, the 300 has the strut from the engine out, replacing the fairing. From the outside, the engine cowling of the 300 is more flat on the bottom, and the landing lights are placed on the outside fairing airliners*dot* net/aviation-forums/tech_ops/read.main/184054/
Did you video this with a phone or a camera? Would you know if it would be okay to use a phone to record the take off and landing as long as the phone is in airplane mode? I'm asking because I'm flying for the first time later this month. Thanks!
Jackson you can record with a phone or camera. Both devices are acceptable to use during all phases of flight. I'd suggest you not film other passengers or crew members.
@Renovator The problem is, the airplane flew over Southeast Dallas before it reached downtown. That part of Dallas is sparsely populated and has a lot of flood plain. It'd be a whole different story if the plane had just flown over North Dallas.
I would imagine so. However non-stop flights to Dallas Love from states that do not touch texas (x MO, AL, MS) are not currently allowed. This restriction will be lifted in October of this year when the Wright Amendment no longer exists.
Kind uv like LA.....but at least LA has a beautiful natural geography with mountains and pretty lush hills. This view of Dallas looks awful. Im from here and telling you that in a different season its more green. Lots of places to visit like the White Rock area.. This vid is 3 years old. Lots more bldgs have popped up. Dwtwn has expanded and more spread out now
+MJT Most of the building are at least 700ft+ so it appears that the plane is closer to them than it really is. There are a few spots downtown where there is no height limit and there are multiple proposals for 1000ft+ bldgs lately. Look up recent vids of the same landing. Lots more blgs now.
Currently Southwest does not fly nonstop from Chicago to Dallas. If you wanted to fly from Chicago, you would likely be routed through St. Louis or Kansas City. In October of this year, a law that was created many years ago to protect the larger DFW airport expires. When this happens, Southwest will be able to offer nonstop service to anywhere in the country from Love Field.
@@EdwinLopez-gy1oq lol fighting racism WITH racism. Classic hypocrisy! One question tho: do you know you're a hypocrite, or did you need me to tell you?
KayEffSeeMods because its made in 2002 and completed in 2005 the terminal in KDAL it was made in 2012 and finished in 2013. (I hope i did the dates right)

We love this video, especially the way they break through the ceiling in a banked turn... That's what flying is all about, nothing like it!
awesome shot of the downtown Dallas skyline!
That was probably about the smoothest touchdown I have ever seen!! Most are a good jarring at least!!
Man this is six-and-a-half years ago? Downtown and Uptown is a lot bigger (and taller) now.
Love this, My brother-in-law flies for Delta to Europe, I envy all of the pilots that get to see this view daily, Michele.
downtown dallas looks just beautiful from the air!!!!
I arrived around 0700 on Christmas Day. You are absolutely right. There was no traffic ;)
3:37 this is the city where Robocop was filmed at!!!
Worked for SWA 15 years, saw this great view many times, thanks for sharing, BTW still live in Texas
Im from Dallas and I can tell you...this is very unusual footage. So DEAD! haha. Normally the city is crawling. But this was Christmas Day.
Especially 4:30PM on a work day. It's gets CRAZY here, lol

Love the layout of Dallas!

Awesome video. The traffic in Dallas seems to be non-existent on this particular day, strange to see. Must have been a Sunday!
Thanks for the video!
Awesome filming !!! Fantastic view of downtown Dallas from the sky at 3:30 !!!
I love Southwest.
Nope. This is a Boeing 737-7H4 (B737)
Me to
Taylor Haney they’re awesome.
the "hole in the engine" is the reverse thrust. It helps slow down the aircraft on landing.
this is amazing. im not good with flying but id love to see Dallas from the air. i fly from oakland to Dallas so i hope our approach is like that
I’m a big fan of Southwest Airline
Nice Cat 2 approach
very smooth landing
Awesome, thanks for the info Travis.
TONS more highrises today in 2015. I wish someone could do an updated flyover.

How about from 1979. When there was just reunion tower. And nothing else.
you can see the american airlines center at 3:54.
Cool video. Would have been better if the Dallas TV Theme began when the city skyline makes its appearance.
great view of dallas
@Iluvbadgers It was a -700. Note the engine mounting pylon and wing shape.
Looks like a good sized town down there.
Smooth landing. Cool video.

It looks better now that we have the Museum Tower. Its missing here but you can see it under construction.
southwest has great pilots and flight crew

Great Video
EN ESTA AEROLINEA HE VIAJADO A DALLAS!!!
Great video coming out of the fog and a great close up of Downtown BIG D! That plane looks like a 737-300 though?
well i made it back!! sadly, i set right over the wing, but our approach was EXACTLY like that.
dude i fly very week because my dad flys for southwest nice video
SO clooosssseeee to the buildings !
excellent quality. What camera were you using?
NICE!!
I stand corrected!

didn't the flight attendant say to power off all electronics? how come or how did you film this with you powered camera
Are you sure the dalls ?
By the way, what seat number were you in, if you remember?
Cheers!
Didn't it snow on this exact date in Dallas. On Christmas Day is 2010??
Awesome
awesome
I actualy live right in frount of the airport on left side were some houses are located
Do you know KB Polk elementary i used to go there
Usually if you just start typing a time in a comment, it will automatically prompt you make it a link.
Why is the terrain so god damn barron
@rtfe83able this is a -700 just look at the spoilers the very far one always comes farther up than any of them.
Is this an Airbus?
WillScaryForCandy It’s a 737. That is all SW Airlines uses I believe.

Travis Tilley I was just wondering because they tell you to turn off your devices. Would you recommend keeping airplane mode on?
Is that a normal flightpath going just above the downtown skyscapers?
james baker that is the normal arrival path when the airport is in a north flow.
Hey, can I ask your permission to use the audio in this video for my project?
goldilocks zone Sure, please cite my work accordingly.
I just realized how small of a downtown that dallas has for a city with its population
@Renovator The problem is, the airplane flew over Southeast Dallas before it reached downtown. That part of Dallas is sparsely populated and has a lot of flood plain. It'd be a whole different story if the plane had just flown over North Dallas.
not a huge fan of love field because of traffic and layout, but that landing view just might make it worth it lol
It's more fun if you land over Bachman Lake.
love field compared to the el Paso airport and Houston
Can I fly from chicago to love field airport with a valid guatemalan passport and no visa? Safe?
I would imagine so. However non-stop flights to Dallas Love from states that do not touch texas (x MO, AL, MS) are not currently allowed. This restriction will be lifted in October of this year when the Wright Amendment no longer exists.
Just look at the wing, it's a dead give away ;) Boeing redesigned the wing when they made the NG.
I would of got nervous because of the hole in the engine
The airport is right next to the plane museum.
man I love this!😂👍
Daa, da daaaaa... da da dada dahhh....

flying so close to downtown like that looks like a disaster in the making.

Travis Tilley thats not cool. austin and san antonio are tiny airports too.
+Andrew Rattle now they.do I have a nonstop flight to Chicago tomorrow
Empty streets like a ghost town...
it's Christmas morning, no one is out.
Chancellor Merkelisms wtf? mexicans are the first ones up ;)

Great landing, but I do agree that Dallas is in one of the most geographically featureless, ugliest regions in the country
how many illegal things can you do before they come back
seat #
why the hell am i watching this.... cool though
Dallas Love Field is too much of a mall.
[GD] Karebu219 true
Cleb-Ster you should see terminal D at DFW that is a real mall lol
Cleb-Ster i know dude its nice inside
KayEffSeeMods because its made in 2002 and completed in 2005 the terminal in KDAL it was made in 2012 and finished in 2013. (I hope i did the dates right)
Yeah I was surprised , plus it was pretty damn big.
