I remember watching this in 6th grade and just revisited it today. I remember thinking the world was moving so quickly back then. Wish I could go back to 6th grade me and tell him he hadn’t seen shit yet.
I hope we can get an update on this exact presentation for 2022! I my young military career I sat and marveled at the facts of this show! I’m wanting a 2022!
I can't believe this comment alone is 8 years old. I remember watching this in my 6th grade shop class as part of a class exercise. Which was around 2008 I believe? Wow, times really DO change.
I think this is the best of the 'Did you know' vids. Yeah the stats are outdated now, but I think the music makes this version so much better than the others. =)
I first watched this video at work, when I was asked to help with a meeting set up for my client. I loved them and still do. They should make an up to date one though
I graduated from IT in '04 and Law in '07, and I can tell you that I am glad my university emphasized learning how to think rather than what to think. But still I can say, few things I've learned (factual and information wise) are irrelevant. Agree that first principles will never change!
My school librarian showed this to us in 6th grade and then gave a talk about why using Facebook is dangerous. Now I'm four years out of college and I have no idea why I still remember it so distinctly.
And here we are in 11 years later, MySpace long gone. CDs and illegal downloads all but gone and replaced with streaming services. iPods gone, blackberry’s gone and google searches are exceeding one hundred billion monthly.
4:08 "By 2049, $1000 computer will exceed the computational capabilities of the entire human species" It is 2023 and we have chatGPT. Which is way cheaper than $1000 and gives you accurate answer to any complex question (exceeds computational and logical capabilities of the entire human species)

Sorry to answer the question at the end, but (REALLY!): "It's not a good time to be writing songs!" (Unless you like reaching an audience indifferent to copyright law. There's that.) Seriously many of the later issues of expansion are answered by the quantity-versus-quality factor. Mass production was invented about 200 years ago, and accounts for much of this expansion... an old Victorian-era story.

ido4444: I don't know what you're talking about because venushapp never said anybody was lying. He just said that Thegamer5150 was incorrect with his assumption that 99% of people illegally download music. In addition, you don't need to do research to show that people buy music, since they obviously do.
But if that machine could gather all the knowledge from the internet, there would be no need for experience, unless you intend a supercomputer to train your dog...
Illegally downloaded songs... hmmm.... did the person who created this video bother to license the Fatboy Slim song and pay royalties as s/he is required to by law?
that's not true. many of us proudly buy music. i haven't downloaded a song illegally since 2004. And yes, there were a couple years when I did it a lot. But now I'm older, I make money, I like music, I want to support artists, so I buy stuff. I'll usually listen to streams first to make sure I'm going to like what I buy. I'd say I average about 3-4 new CD's a month, about 50 new full price albums a year. Maybe half of them I get at concerts.
@iambored678 But many families with the money to move here have honors and med students. So it's not like we're getting their unwanted extras. Not a bad deal.

the last one funny since 99% of us do it
Clearly, what it means is that once we have fiber optic cable, the number of illegally downloaded songs will really take OFF.
For your information, several ancient civilizations predicted that the world would end in 2012 WITHOUT HAVING ANYTHING TO DO WITH EACH OTHER
The spooky part is that this video came out 5 years ago.

Or
We'll just become more and more diverse as the years go by
