Oh shit. I hope I can do a little better next time then. But its been a long time setting in. To make it more movie like I think is easy. But I want to get a balance of realism in there. But at the same time I am aware that every body likes something different. So its trying to mix it a bit. Some say no music, then others are fine. But hey its a challenge. Nothing like a good challenge. But I am happy that you enjoy it. Thanks mate. Take care. Shaun.
Hi Caz, Thanks mate. But I would love to know more about photography. Problem. My head can't take it in. As you know I am away next week. But I hope to catch up soon. I think you need a big gate. Hope your hand ain't stuck in your pocket.
Hi Shaun just found your site, I am starting fly fishing again after a 10 year break, various reasons for that, things and fly's have changed a lot since my last outing, me and my son have joined ynysyfro reservoir , Newport fly fishing club, I wondered where your based. anyway enjoying what you do , keep it up.
Hi Allen I hope you are enjoying your fishing. I could not last a few days and not go fishing. Ye there are patterns coming out all the time. Every body wants to create the pattern. Most don't work. Then again most will catch a stock fish. So if you are on stock fish don't be too concerned, and get bogged down with heaps of these patterns. Most of your original patterns are still great resident fish catchers. Build up your fly box gradually. Or you could be stuck with a load of flash rubbish. We are based in Haverfordwest Pembrokeshire. And Hayscastle is our main water. Great water to learn fly fishing as its a very small catchment. And stock goes in about every three to four weeks. This means we are fishing resident fish more often. In turn we can perfect a pattern. A few of the boys have fished Port Talbot water. Think its run by Tata. They highly recommend this water. We will be heading there our selves soon. Any thing you need to know, just ask. Shaun.
@@shaunfishes101 Thanks Shaun, I may see you at Hayscaslle later in the year. as for port talbot res, I hate the place and its my local water, but each to his own. Thanks for your advice.
@@allenbrown8158 Admitted it may not be the most scenic of places. But its Exmoor stock, and apparently feeding heavy on shrimp. And in turn make them really hard fighting. Would this be your experience of fishing there. Would love to hear your feedback on this place. Be great to see you at Hays. Just let me know when so I can be there with you. It is closed for three days a week. Monday to Wednesday.
Top fishy entertainment, Shaun. Still trying to catch on your pink beaded self-tie thing. No luck at Ellerdine or Brenig yet. Going to give it an outing on the first day at Clywedog next week. It’s got to work. It just looks like a killer pattern.
Ellerdine is normally a bit coloured which could have something to do with this. Brenig I don't know the water. Clywedog. Yes. If the fish are finicky and low. Long tippet fish dead slow or a twitch now and then. Mid water I prefer long steady draws. IF High. Try Fast. Its no wonder pattern, but it's bloody good.
I got out with Justin a week or so ago on Clywedog. Thought I would give the beaded apps thing ago. Justin and myself were both confident this would pull me a fish or two, as at this point I had only netted one. Missed a few but had four. This was my first time on a boat proper, and first time Clywedog. Loved it.
@@shaunfishes101 still not made it work. It’s probably a confidence thing. I tend to go back to the patterns that work. Having said that, i might be out in Clywedog next week and I’ll give it another go if the dries aren’t doing it. Glad you enjoyed it. It’s a cracking venue.
@@ironmanmichael And I cant even help catch on it up there. I fished it, but had not a clue what was going on. Justin had us fish without the drouge. I could not believe how fast we was going. And getting contact with my fly as I am used to, no chance. A lot to learn, and I am looking forward to it. But will be made easy with Justin there. The boat champ. Was lucky to have had a good day plus watching the Osprey feed. Amazing.Oh confidence is a rally big factor in fishing.
Great video as always Shaun. Would love to know your approach to a venue you have never fished before. What homework do you do, and what patterns would you use. Seasonal depend of course. 👍
Mark check out my Ellerdine video about a year and a bit ago. Pay attention to what I say at the beginning. I go through all of what you have just asked. Important info on how to read a log book. It will make sense when I tell you. Then you will say, hell ye.
I feel your pain Shaun.. I've lost a few decent fish too of late, but I reckon it was just me being a bit too heavy on the playing side... You'll get another biggy before you know it so no worries there..
Oh ye heavy could be my middle name. That hook was iffy mind. I fished the same thing today mind, 2 hits and both to the net. The big fish in this water don't come around very often. These are not stock fish. The water gets stocked with avg of two lb fish. My last double here was around two and a bit years ago. One of the boys did have a nice 8lb fish last year. Mind some great fish of up to 5lb coming out more regular now. And boy do they scrap. Thanks for the comment mate. Shaun.
Shaun enjoy your videos. I came across your buzzer video direct contact and it mentions that there is a clip on tying the little red buzzer. Could not find it was trying to tie a few. Was wondering what your materials were especially for the white tail and white legs. I assumed the shell back was peacock heel. Thanks
Sorry Kirk it is not very obvious as a fly tying video. Its called the one fly I want on here. I think it was the video after the buzzer video. Its a slow sink buzzer, or as slow as you can get them. But honestly this fly has caught me more fish than anything. And its not only when buzzers are on the hatch. I do believe fish see this as a small bug more than a buzzer, as I fish this quite fast at times. Again on a long tippet fish it slow and deep. This then represents a blood worm. This without doubt is the most universal fly I have ever come across. Give it a go, have fun. Hope to hear some good news soon. Thanks for the comment and the watch. Shaun.

@@bobturner8323 we have now fished them at Garnffrwd. They caught a lot of fish. And this when fishing was difficult. I use an intermediate and vary speeds and depths. A few of the boys used the floater with success. I don't think you will be long in working out what works on your water. But this pattern picks up resident fish and hammers the stock fish.

My kit gets a hammering, as I am out in all weathers and a lot more than most. Am I happy. Not sure. I have had issues with leaking. Air Flow did change my Bib and brace. But 2 years on and they leak. I wear them now for light showers and to keep clean. Not rain. What I have been doing lately is shopping at the likes of Mountain Ware House. I am getting better water proof gear and much better price. I would look at places like this first.
Shaun, looking to come down with two/four mates on 12th August, where do we get permits and is there a cafe fairly close (no problem if there's not), hopefully, see you then.
Brilliant. You can sort permits with me. No cafe. but lots of free tea and coffee. Would you like to fish it as I would. That's resident fish. Or would you like a few stock fish put in. A one fish kill then c/r ticket is £20. Barbless hooks or crunched down. Blues and Browns have to be returned unharmed.
@@shaunfishes101 Hiya Shaun, definitely 3 of us, we will be leaving at 5am to get there for 7:30am, we'll fish it as everyone else does, with whatever fish are in there, stockie's or resident fish. We will all fish a1 kill and C&R ticket (£20), I will have the cash ready for when we get there, no problem. Thanks for taking the trouble Shaun, see you then hopefully, 👍
Sounds like you are really getting into the tying. Good on you mate. May be you will show me a pattern or two soon. No videos on tying these at moment. Hopefully soon.
I will get to do a video on it soon. I do know its never soon enough. I wish all this videoing and editing stuff came more natural to me, so I could do more and regular. But I struggle with it. But this pattern is at the moment, very consistent. And I am sure it will be for a long time ahead.
There is a few channels I follow. And when they go ice fishing we often talk about the cold. My problem is my joints due to age, It has only become more of a problem in the last two years. Sometimes it gets to a point that I can not close my hand. I have only had this problem twice this year. But it prevents me casting and retrieving line. I had this problem two weeks ago. Had to wait till midday before I could fish. So I just sat and watched every body else fish. Wish I could take a heater like most of you ice fishing blokes. Just enough to keep the hands working. Think you’ve got the balance between them about right 👍 cheers, Jonathan. PS I’ve realised the impact of black with a blue flash of some description in flies… 💥 👌
Take care. Shaun.
@@shaunfishes101 I really think you’ve got the balance spot on. 👌 You’ll never please everyone 😂. Keep doing what you’re doing 👏 Cheers! J .
Cracking camera work 👍
Hi Caz, Thanks mate.
Shaun.
Hi Shaun, that looked great fun buddy, kept you busy didn’t it?
I would like to buy some of the black and blue lures from your last video, if possible.
Anyway keep the great entertainment coming.
Great stuff, as always.

No worries Bob mate, I am tying 2 mos and they are as good as on there way. I am doing this as I did promise you flies. Once you get them I want to hear how many fish you are getting.

That would be amazing buddy, can I pay you for them?
Keep the videos going, really look forward to watching them.

Hi Shaun
Many thanks for your envelope, much appreciated.
Will be fishing very soon and give you an update.
Thanks Shaun.
Bob.👍👍👍🎣🎣🎣
@@bobturner8323 we have now fished them at Garnffrwd. They caught a lot of fish. And this when fishing was difficult. I use an intermediate and vary speeds and depths. A few of the boys used the floater with success. I don't think you will be long in working out what works on your water. But this pattern picks up resident fish and hammers the stock fish.

Hi Shaun
Thanks for the flies and now the information, can’t wait to get out on the water to have a go with them.
Very much appreciated mate.

Hi Shaun, I see you wear the Airflow kit and was thinking of investing in the bib & brace to help keep out the cold - any views please?
My kit gets a hammering, as I am out in all weathers and a lot more than most. Am I happy. Not sure. I have had issues with leaking. Air Flow did change my Bib and brace. But 2 years on and they leak. I wear them now for light showers and to keep clean. Not rain. What I have been doing lately is shopping at the likes of Mountain Ware House. I am getting better water proof gear and much better price. I would look at places like this first.
Oopsie Daisy 😂😂😂
I think the boys were lying to me.🙄
Shaun, looking to come down with two/four mates on 12th August, where do we get permits and is there a cafe fairly close (no problem if there's not), hopefully, see you then.
@@mikejames663 where are you based Mike.
@@shaunfishes101 Senghenydd, Caerphilly, a two hour + drive, but that's not a problem.
Well done mate looks like you all had a great days fishing. Is there a pattern for tying that nymph or your little bluey . ? Stay well buddy .
Sounds like you are really getting into the tying. Good on you mate. May be you will show me a pattern or two soon. No videos on tying these at moment. Hopefully soon.
@@shaunfishes101 how do I send a picture mate?
@@graymain Post man knows more about that than me mate. You will need a stamp.

How do you tie that little olive nymph mate
I will get to do a video on it soon. I do know its never soon enough. I wish all this videoing and editing stuff came more natural to me, so I could do more and regular. But I struggle with it. But this pattern is at the moment, very consistent. And I am sure it will be for a long time ahead.
He’s complaining about the cold when I’ve just spend all winter in 0° weather ice fishing lakes and fly fishing river systems. Hahaha
Thanks for the comment. Take care, keep warm. Shaun.
@@shaunfishes101 That makes a ton of sense! I’m sorry for the issue. Time really does seem to have its way of slowing us down while it keeps bulldozing forward, haha.
Where are you located? I’m in the Rocky Mountains on the Canadian/USA boarder.
Finally starting to thaw out here.
@@DylanWOWilliams No problem mate. The good thing is that not every one as they get older will have this problem. We are West Wales. Small but wonderful country joined onto England UK. On the edge of the Atlantic. It does not get cold like you have cold. I have so many friends that have visited Canada and the Rocky Mountains. And they all loved it. Its somewhere I would love to go. But my wife hates flying and boats. Every thing we do is on our main land. I am fine with this. My late Mother was Canadian. My youngest daughter has inherited Mothers genes. She is dark skin and dark eyes. An old friend of my father Mike Davies has written a book on the Rocky Mountains. He spent If I remember correctly 2 months back packing on his own. His stories are amazing. And at one point he went about a week or so and did not meet any body. But what a place.
@@shaunfishes101 Yes! I love Wales. My fathers descendants came to America from Wales in the late 1700’s(my mother is from a tribe in what is now Los Angeles). I used to live in London and the in Glasgow area, once upon a time. I loved it, but the mountains kept calling me back home.
If you ever get a chance to head over here, I’m a licensed guide and outfitter here in Idaho and I’d happily take you for some native Cutthroat and Bull Trout. I understand not wanting to travel without your wife. My wife is my absolute best friend and I quite love her company. Haha.
Thanks for sharing those stories. I loved read them.
Heres a man taking time to bring us a nice video and is shot down by you! Nobody asked where you've been all winter🙄
Do you have any of these lures for sale?
Not at the moment. We are trying to find a third party to help sort. I will hope to do a tying vid soon if that helps for now. Sorry and thanks. Shaun.

HI SHAUN LOVING YOUR STUFF LEARNING A LOT .
I'VE JUST BOUGHT A HARDY WRAITH 7# WHICH HARDY REEL WOULD YOU RECOMMEND TO MATCH IT WITH 🤔
Spoke with Justin on this one. He has more fishing time with so many different reels. When he said Ultra light ASR, I would totally agree. The drag system is amazing. A few clicks and you will have control of the strongest of fish. It is smooth. Just what you would expect from Hardy. And a spare spool is really well priced. Nice rod by the way. Lucky boy. Have fun. Shaun.
You're a grown man. If you swear, it's fine. It happens. No worries.
Sorry its been so long to reply Kyle. I have been away for a week. FISHING. Yes it was great. We hear certain words blasted on the water from time to time. But I have had a few comments about the realism. I could have edited it out. But then thought why not, its how it happened. Mind I will not make a habit of it. I ain't the next Gordon Ramsey. Nice to hear from you Kyle. Thanks mate. Shaun.
