The absolute panic that started in the games industry when Baldur’s Gate actually released to consumer standards really shows how ingrained these malpractices are in big game companies
@@Draconisrex1 Considering Act 3 has got lots of cut content including the multiple quests that were supposed to end companion story lines, so now some companion quests just abruptly ... stop, without any continuation. Also Act 3 is buggy to hell and back, the hotfixes didnt even put a dent to it. But anyone who knows Larian should have seen it coming, their last Act is always a unfinished mess and severely drops in quality. Atleast their definitive edition usually fixes most issues and was a free upgrade for their previous games, so heres hoping this game is actually playable in 1-2 years.
What you forgot to mention is that in the run-up to release, Rockstar released their lawyers on modders who had spent years updating and improving the GTA games so that there would be no competition for their expensive, broken, incomplete mess.

Pre-ordering made sense back when games came in boxes. There was a physically limited amount of copies, if you didn't pre-order you quite often just didn't get the game on day one. Now... just buy it on release. You know there's going to be a giant day 1 patch anyway, so pre-loading doesn't even really save you time.
The game industry and companies are getting big and greedy its like this all around like mobile industry all the big companies are removing adapters then wires in the end you should pay for a box or your phone would arrive in a plastic bag
Do you know what angers me the most? People preordering DLC! Preorder physical copy: it used to be the only way to guarantee you got the game on release day, I get it though i don't recommend it Preorder digital game: umm... I guess if you have really bad internet and want to preload the game there might be some advantage to it, maybe? Preordering DLC: WHAT ARE YOU DOING
tbh why want something limited when i can make more money specially digitally yall gotta realize times were changing and adapting the business had to do the same or they was going to sink like some others ea big was one of the company's that got shut down bc of this
@@nocomment6421 And especially being willing to refund it once it becomes clear that it is garbage. It is fair enough to give games a chance, but that means that they have to be worth what they are asking as well.

@@nevertrumpfromthejump it was unbelievable how they go after games that are a masterpiece were a Dev has put there heart and soul into a game. I can't remember a time when so many games came out in such an unfinished state and just like it's our fault as a consumer for wanting what they promised. I stop pre ordering games after mass effect 4, paid for second tier preorder then the Dev dropped it like a sack of potatoes but because it's disc you can't get your full money back it's unbelievably.
If you did what the game industry did in the hospitality, “ Hey, here’s your meal uncooked and with a few hairs in it, we will continue cooking about halfway through the meal and maybe get around to removing those hairs. here’s a roadmap”
@@ExtraMedium665 Perhaps. But the amount of people that defend shitty games is just baffling to me. "we invest in that game". Wtf are these people on about... You just payed for it not invested in it. If you were you would get somthing from the profits. You just simply wasted money on the hopes that 10 years from now maybe it will be playable. And what get my blood boil the most is when they defend a multi-billion company. I mean if they were a small indie studio then I would say I can understand it and also support it. But why defend a company that already makes so much money that they can continue for years without any additional income.
@@chernovbrichtofen4767 did you see the game at launch?… I didn’t play it but I saw a guys video (I’ve completely forgotten his name) and he went over the full story, it’s INSANE it’s actually a good watch, if you can find it I definitely recommend it. I’ll see if I can find it actually.
I actually like BF2042. I used EA Play to play it for 2 months, then again when it went down to basic EA Play, then I bought it for $20 on sale. I've spent over 500 hours in the game. It might be lackluster compared to other Battlefields but I didn't play other Battlefields. It may have had a lackluster launch and questionable design choices, but it's still the best 128 player game I've played and easily my favorite casual FPS.
Nah mate, stand strong. I whole-heartedly agree that you do not pre-order. A single person is smart, but people are stupid. Don't listen to the "people" on TH-cam who hate your content. I think what you're doing is admirable.
"A single person is smart, but people are stupid." This is how I felt EVERY TIME I had to deal with a Discord group that wouldn't be more open-minded (i.e. PvZ: Reflourished players when discussing Plant balance), but this quote put that feeling into physical words, THANK YOU
Also explains how sometimes indie devs come up with a dozen different good ideas while communities as a whole can spend ages arguing over the finer details of ONE idea.
Your statement also makes a good argument for quality control. There could be a bunch of writers in a room all throwing out tons of ideas but if there isn't something to say no to many of them you'll end up with a garbled mess.
When you pre-order, you're not buying a game, you're buying a promise. And you gotta be real damn sure of things to spend actual real life money on a stranger's promise.
A stranger who is financially incentivized by shareholders to cut corners in every way possible and deliver just enough product that you can't sue them and can be convinced to keep buying their stuff.
@@Walamonga1313somebody out there says that about every game that can be pre-ordered. You still can't play it yet. There's no difference between buying it months in advance or the day before release.
You can do with your money as you will. But remember, throwing money at people for a product. And then not holding them accountable when you don’t get a playable game on the promised date. Creates an environment where promises are not fulfilled and promised features are “given” to cover up mistakes.
Totally couldn’t have said it better myself. Don’t contribute to something that’s begging for your money, I mean, yea, I give a dollar to some homeless people I know or even buy them a sandwich like every week. But don’t contribute money to a EVEN somewhat corporate entity upfront if you don’t 100% have a money back guarantee; have an indisputable knowledge of getting what you pay for; or otherwise just want to blindly support something you really personally support bc of some very personal link to the project/game/kickstarter/etc. Yeah
Couldn't agree more. People do this throughout culture all the time. They only react to the short term or emotional instead of thinking rationally about downstream effects.
Every game i have preordered it has released playable with few bugs, CP 2077, Starfield, Hogwarts legacy, etc. Never had an issue with release on these games.
Seeing Gollum especially hurts me, as someone who has seen and played many of Daedalic Entertainments early games. Deponia is one of my all time favourite game series out there, it is full of wit and humor and it has a great, timeless art style. Occasionally I still go back and rewatch it on TH-cam when I'm bored. God knows what came over Daedalic Entertainment to make Gollum. It is the complete opposite of what they are great at doing! They are known for their great point and click style adventure games, that is what they have ample experience with and that is what they know to do best - and then they just suddenly decide to create a 3D plattformer? On one of the largest franchises in the world that, just as the cherry on top, is already extremely pissed off at how Amazon has been handling the franchise up till now and is therefore guaranteed to be extre critical? What in the world were they thinking?! Who made that decision? Honestly to me this feels like some executive put them under contract and only afterwards revealed that they were to make a 3D plattformer game, because that's what's popular with the kids these days. And then when the entire thing, expectedly, came crashing down they dumped the entire blame on Daedalic Entertainment. Or maybe I'm just trying to cope with the fact that one of my favouite indie companies from back then would make a product as terrible as this. Anyway, I hope that, if the company survives this disaster, they learn from it and stick to what they do well in the future.
Well the development part of the company was closed sadly, althought not suprisingly as it really was a shadow of its former self. The company now only acts as a publisher from what i have heared
As a German I feel compelled to tell the story of how Daedalic has already been dead, when starting to develop Gollum. There once were two young men with a passion for story-driven games, a passion for point and click adventures in particular. They founded Daedalic and created some beautiful pieces of work. The German industry noticed and Daedalic was bought by a publishing house mostly known for children's books. German officials also started subsidizing Daedalic to grow the domestic video game market. And this was how the best modern point and click adventure studio became a publisher for lesser games and projects too big to handle. One of its founders, the intelligent and creative one, went his own way, since he could not handle how the very soul of the company was sold, so that investors would bite. Daedalic was already creatively bankrupt and only a shell of its former self, when they started developing Gollum. The publishing house even sold them to some video game company in France, which had only published one mediocre final fantasy rip-off then. Under these circumstances it should've been clear Gollum would be a disaster, but the German video game journalists, who could've told us about it, probably didn't want to proactively doom one of the possibly largest (when judging by IP) German video game releases ever.
For me that was raised on borrowed and torrented games, pre-ordering seems insane. It's not like you have limited stock anymore, and waiting one day won't hurt, it might actually save you from a really bad game.
That clip of the "ex-wife" from Iron Man 2 is such a perfect analogy for the preorder subject. A weapon that was massively over sold as the ultimate bunker buster that will bust the bunker under the bunker you just busted. But when it came time to actually use it, it just bounced off and fizzled out.
I was able to get Cyberpunk some months after launch at Best Buy for like $10. Pretty good investment now. This happened to me with No Man Sky too. Shout out to Best Buy
That's the way to do it. I do have sympathy for people who want to play multiplayer games with their friends when it's new but for singleplayer games I see no reason not to wait a couple of months for a sale, or at the bare minimum wait til after release to see its reception
@@HyperVanilo No matter who you are you can take pride knowing that No Mans BS lied so much pre launch that they are single handedly through reason digital stores allow refunds. Some legacy. They got me for $80 lol never again
Looks like you're my spirit animal, 'cause that's my typical MO as well. I see no point in rushing into new releases when there are so many older interesting games I haven't tried yet. It also means I never need to go beyond mid shelf hardware, so a financial win-win all around.
My first ever preorder experience was with Need For Speed 2015. And while the launch wasn't disastrous in comparison, it certainly was for me personally As someone who was always a big fan of the franchise, back in 2014 after years of no NFS game about illegal street racing and car tuning and Need for Speed World shutting down. I was extremely hyped when I saw NFS 2015 being teased, especially when they said the game would have no DLCs, only free content uprates. Which was amazing by EA standards. And When I heard that the 70$ deluxe edition would include the iconic player car from Most Wanted, 14 year old me saved up all the money in the world to pre-order the deluxe edition using a non-refundable payment method due to a lack of bank account. Without playing a demo or the beta (because those were console only and I pre-ordered the PC version) A few weeks after my preorder, a blog post was released that the PC version of the game would be delayed for a whole 6 MONTHS, all just to remove a frame rate limiter. Something that usually wouldn't take more than a week. And so the game launched for PS4 and XB1 with a 30 FPS lock and as the 6 long months passed and the PC version finally released, I had 0 hype left for the game, it was buggy despite a 6 month long extra development time and by that time the game had a whopping 2 minor content Updates. A week after the PC launch a third one was dropped which added 2 cars and after that nothing else. After this I told myself to never preorder anything again unless it's like the game of the century. So fast forward 4 years and the only other game I would ever preorder in my life was Cyberpunk...
Also, it’s just better to wait since you’ll get full gameplay and reviews to check if you want the game in the first place. The game will likely be on a big sale if you wait a year or so too. If you do this for all releases, you can just chain games and always be steadily drifting behind each game.
Yeah. Especially nowadays, trailers are often just misleading and barely ever show gameplay, and even when it does show gameplay, it's often gonna be different and usually for the worse. That is if it's even real gameplay, like Anthem. Plus it's triple A in modern times. They care about the money, not your enjoyment of their games. Hell it's not even games for players to them, but product for customers.
I don't play many games anymore (and I honestly don't remember the last time I paid full price for one), but I always take this stance on virtually any piece of media, even if it's practically free. Basically, I hear about it, and I'll see if it fills some amount of arbitrary interest quotas for me to check it out. For example, if there's a new TV show on Netflix that a lot of people are watching, I'll wait 6 months-ish to see if people are still talking about it positively to give it my time. I'm honestly such a min-maxer and penny pincher when it comes to buying something or spending my time, it's just how I was raised. Like, if I think a 5$ sandwich is too expensive, I'll just stay hungry.
Your video essay is well-structured and engaging, and your humor is part of its charm. I have seen both videos, and I encourage you to keep doing this because you seem to be a natural at all the necessary requirements for entertaining videos. I suggest that you expand on this style of video editing and explore other factors of the gaming world that influence and affect us as the consumers. Best of luck to you!
biggest problem is that even the big trusted good track record companies are giving out low bar games. Even TT with Lego, instead of vast amounts and combinations of puzzles that we need specific characters for (like the regular lego formula) we got 5 classes that make everyone in that class the exact same and levels that make us do nothing but wait, saber fight and shoot.
Ignore the haters, preorder idiots are indeed morons who are fucking it up for both themselves and everyone else, and need to aggressively and repeatedly be told not to. Thank you for doing the lord's work 👊
They do ruining the games for everyone and they behave like you want to hurt them when you told them to not preorder. They behave like the corporations are their best friends who are the second comming of Jesus.
I think one of the scummiest new practices is the whole “play the game early if you preorder the special edition!” It prays on FOMO and makes it so that you cant cancel your preorder or return the game if you dare actually play it
And then it doesn't even work, like a ton of people who preordered the upgraded version of Starfield and didn't even get to play early like they were told.
Yeah that's even worse when it's single player, it makes sense if its online (getting a headstart if its a beta you already liked) it doesn't belong in single player at all. The worst is when the servers are fucked even before proper release, its so stupid. Tbh I've only bought a few games that have done this, most of them online coop games like vermintide and dadktide.
They have a right to preorder and all that but we also have the right to call them out for being morons propagating the downward spiral of the gaming industry. You keep doing you and call out these plebs my G
This mindset needs to be more widespread… It’s very disheartening to keep seeing releases that are money-pits or straight up dont work, or both. We dont have to accept these half-baked jobs. No blame to devs, usually, almost always towards these companies(corporations, now)
@@polocatfanKinda sad to see Daedalic drop the ball on Gollum after releasing banger point-n-clicks. At least they still publish decent games like Barotrauma.
I remember Battlefront 2 at launch, it was a broken piece of shit and right as EA abandoned it and told the devs to just do what they want until they assigned them to another game, they got hard at work at making it a good Star Wars game, these companies rush the devs to take shit out of the oven when it’s still raw and uncooked
Meh, I'm not that disheartened. There are plenty of good games coming out every single week. I've got more games to buy than I could ever afford because of that. Really, the only people getting hurt that badly are the folks who are loyal to a brand. Maybe the devs get hurt too, but honestly hard to tell when they keep getting paid to make more games, or get transferred or bought out by some other company to make yet more games.
The Copium in those comments are too much. Imagine being so pathetic that you have to make a war speech to declare your loyalty to a corporation and this must be proved to "TH-cam Haters".
Corporate daddy buy them stuff and yes he hit them sometimes but it is not corporate daddy's fault, it's their fault because the blow job wasn't satisfying enough. Corporate daddy promissed he will not hit them again. You are just a hater who want them to end up alone.
I'm a fifty year old, part time gamer. I learned back in the 80s not to buy video games until I knew, either by playing a mate's copy of a game, or magazine (!) reviews. Saved me a fortune over the years.
Pre-ordering games has become a common practice in the gaming industry, but it's essential to stay informed about the potential drawbacks. This video serves as an excellent reminder of why we should think twice before hitting that pre-order button. Bug-Ridden Launches: It's frustrating to buy a game and encounter game-breaking bugs or performance issues on launch day. Let's demand developers prioritize quality over rushed releases. Unfulfilled Promises: Pre-order bonuses can be tempting, but remember, sometimes these incentives don't live up to the hype. We deserve the content we were promised. Incomplete Games: Developers may release games in an unfinished state and patch them later. We should encourage a commitment to delivering complete experiences from the start. Impulse Spending: Pre-ordering can lead to impulsive purchases that we might later regret. It's wise to wait for reviews and gameplay footage to make an informed decision. Supporting the Right Practices: By being cautious with pre-orders, we can encourage the gaming industry to focus on player satisfaction and ethical business practices. Let's keep these reminders in mind and strive for a gaming industry that consistently delivers top-quality experiences to its players. Thanks for the insightful video! 🎮👍 #GamingCommunity #PreOrderAwareness
Watching the Battlefield section reminded me of the one good thing about these failures. When Battlefield let down so many people, they started looking around to get their fix. This gave smaller/less well known developers a moment to shine and games like Squad got a huge bump. Still hurts my heart though to see so many trusted developers trash good IPs for cash grabs.
"I'll do whatwver i want with MY money!" Gotta grasp that false sense of having power before it flies away. Love the Bane clip, though. Thats exactly what I think of when people spit out these power statements.
@@benjaminaswad6486 You are attempting to mock people that choose to spend their money as they please, insinuating that you yourself do not choose how you spend your money. Simple logic.
@photobackflip nope. Read it again. I was mocking the power statements. It doesn't mean I disagree with them. Keep making those leaps, and your life is REALLY going to suck. What leaps, you may ask? The, "if you say this, you must also believe this." That kind of leap.
@@benjaminaswad6486 Right, so you agree with the people you are mocking? Sounds kinda stupid. But hey, you do you. Also heed your own words. Telling someone their life is going to suck if they keep leaping to conclusions is itself jumping to a conclusion. But hey at least you are being consistently stupid, points for that.
To follow up on the previous video and how this one started: I personally think the issue with No Man's Sky was the audience allowing themselves to get overhyped. Like you said, it is on us to not get suckered by marketing speech and keep some level of skepticism. "If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is." That's not to say a lot of these were 100% on the developer, though. I think Redfall and Gollum were the best recent examples. I personally never looked at them and was like, "yeah, those sound amazing" but I saw other people online raving about how cool they sounded. I even tried to give Redfall a chance, and there is a framework of an ok game there...but it will need a lot of work and I doubt Microsoft has any interest in saving it.
I'll never understand why people WILLINGLY defend release it now, fix it later. They're AAA studios. They have the money and manpower to get it right on day one. They're just lazy. I remember the massive disappointment I felt with Pokémon Scarlet and Violet...
Love the use of SpongeBob references in your videos. Completely agree with your message. When it comes to new games, I’m cautiously optimistic. I guess we will have to see if starfield lives up to the hype
These games are one dimensional objects. Doesn’t matter if a game is made good after a year or …three of release. I’m not buying ‘No Mans Sky’. Because if I bought it now having been “made good” it promotes the lies, delays, mediocrity, buy now finish later and eventual unearned success of a product as a package. It’s promoting the process not the finished product just for them to do it again. Why do people keep doing this with Todd Howard? You know he lies. But after ‘76 all these drones lined up for ‘Star Field’ like the people getting food rations in ‘Half-Life 2’.
But if someone releases a bad game I would rather they fix their mistake than not. Maybe with your argument they should lower its price even after fixing it but I just don't think that leaving a broken product broken is the right choice if you have the ability to fix it.
The disastrous release of Cyberpunk 2077 is what convinced me to stop pre-ordering video games I was so excited for this one and CD Project Red dropped the ball, big time. Ever since then I have waited after release to buy a game.
Even CDPR was trying to act all hip with their marketing by saying "don't pre-order it" or something along those lines while also giving people the option to pre-order it. Companies don't remain good forever, sometimes the people who made them great retired or burn out with age and lose that creative spark they once had, or they stop caring after getting rich; or their company gets taken over by investors who crack the whip and ruin everything.
While binging your archive and watching this one, I gotta wonder just how hard you were facepalming when The Day Before came out, muttering to yourself, "I warned them all... but they would not listen..." And yet those same moths will dive bomb the next bright flame of a cash grab to announce a pre-order Collector Edition. You simply can't fix stupid, merely ensure you're not caught in its blast radius.
lol it’s usually the same cycle. Something is announced, I give a warning, people say “my money my choice”, then that Something turns out to be garbage. The next thing is announced, and the cycle continues Also hey thanks for binging 🤝
I doubt that this is the case for every single studio out there but from my very little time in the video game industry I've come to realize that it's usually not the devs fault that games are bad its typically the corporate higher ups that rush shit out the door or force devs to change their game entirely. I assume a lot of people know this information already but I figured it's interesting and important to put out there. I hope that these companies eventually listen to us. I know that I've been getting better at how I spend my money video game wise.
Graphics/ technology are also a large part to blame. Competition these days (to publishing studios) means putting out a game that looks better than other games. There was even a story back when Metro Exodus was still coming out where I think the CEO or lead developer or some high ranking person saw the live action trailer for Far Cry 5 and thought it was in-game footage and had a meltdown because Exodus didn't look as good, which I think sums this up pretty well. So this makes development very expensive which leads to execs wanting to get the game out ASAP to start making back their money, forcing devs to release unfinished broken products. Also why so many games are so heavily monetized.
@plaguepandemic5651 hard agree I definitely like when a game looks good but good dosen't mean most realistic or graphically advanced, and studio higher ups need to realize that. Good art direction is way better than the best, most realistic graphics.
It's certainly not all developers. Capcom have released 26 Resident Evil games over a 26 year time period. Everyone of them was finished, playable, enjoyable and reasonably well reviewed.
if there's many ppl like dat.. i wonder if i open a car company that sells cars with only body, interior, exhaust, 2 tires, and only engine block case and i charge it in full price i will still get many costumer and they wont complain when i said " you just bought your car, wait 3 month for the fix or you can pay additional $5000 for faster service or $10000 for extra custom " ,,,
I asked this question in numerous comment sections and forums and never got a good answer. Why do people pre-order games at all? Is there ANY advantage rather than just waiting? Or worse, why still preorder after getting disappointed/cheated/mislead numerous times already? As soon a game is a "service" rather than a "product", you have no power, the company is in charge.
Well, Poland is not an Eastern European country (not by the culture, not by the economy, not by the income, not by the development level, we don't even understand Eastern European languages), yet it's still commonly referred to as Eastern... and, frankly, there's nothing wrong with Eastern Europe per se, and people of Ukrainian or Georgian descent are cool and everything, but for some reason the phrase has very strong connotations, which are just unfairly attributed to Central European cultures. That said, I think the creator of this video meant Western as American.
@@Falaxuperculture is definitely eastern. Poland is a Slavic country. I noticed you intentionally didn't put Russians. You think the Germans will treat you better? You're they're lapdog. Go bark somewhere else
It’s difficult to tell if a preorder will be good by which developer is behind it now. Rockstar and cd project red both have some highly awarded games, yet both of them have followed in the pattern of other developers and released, buggy, unfinished and unenjoyable games that don’t meet up to what people expect. I expect in the future we are going to see more and more unfinished games being released to be patched later down the line. The focus seems to be shifting from finished enjoyable games to unfinished games that maximise profit and micro transactions.
Solution is simple: *Don't. Preorder. No matter. What.* Especially not from triple A companies. Even if you remember them fondly, they aren't same as what you remember. They are businesses often hellbent on milking out as much cash out of their customers for as little effort and/or risk as possible, and what helps them is that they are considered triple A and got tons of marketting budget. They don't care as much about making a good game, because they got marketting to sell it. It's why trend chasing is such a thing. If something works *really* well for one company, others will copy it one way or another for easy money. It happened with battle royale. It happened with open world games. It's happening with pushing graphics to the limits, screenshots and trailers that look pretty are way easier to sell to general masses for them then trying to sell the game by gameplay alone. And it absolutely keeps happening with all sorts of microtransactions, battlepasses, overpriced skins with prices you could instead use to buy some really freaking solid games with, sea of DLCs, pay 2 win mechanics, free 2 play model being used to try and justify the scummy practices, using f2p practices in fully fucking priced games, releasing buggy games with perfectly stable in-gme stores.
@@Starkor990well that surety can turn out false. Some of the examples given where of projects with general expectations to be deacent to good. They disapointed so being sure is not realy a reason to trow away waiting a day to be sure as it can still turn out disapointing flop.
and the main problem is not that they patch it later , the problem is if they decide that the sales are not expected and they end the game before properly patching it. and this should happen at least couple of times and this will teach those stupid idiots who preorder digital game ( digital game that you can buy any time you want without any hassle even on the launch day )
I agree that no IP or dev should blindly be trusted because of previous successes, but I desperately want to continue to hold onto the hope that FromSoftware might just be the one studio that understands the players and what they want. Never played anything older than Demons' Souls but everything from that point onwards has been IT.
FromSoftware are one of the few companies I do classify as relatively safe to preorder from, as they have been making games with a similar level of polish and balance for almost 30 years, long before patching a game was an option really. That combined with a culture of seemingly promoting from within, means that its unlikely they are close to losing the culture of needing the game to be mostly polished on release . Plus the fact that they usually self publish in their home region means that they shouldn't fall foul of the publisher enforcing an strict launch deadline that can sometimes cripple a game. So yeah you're probably still safe to preorder Fires of Rubicon and get the great big mech statue and art book if you want. (Not completely safe mind, remember "Steel Battalion: Heavy Armour" came out after Demon Souls, and that game was a near unplayable mess at launch and I think still is.)
As someone who rarely plays AAA games or recently-released games, this topic isn't very relevant to me (albeit I still find it interesting). My point, however, is that your insane memery editing and jokes and overal vibe made me watch a 30 min video feel like 10 minutes. Great content! I hope to see more stuff from you and I wish you solid channel growth! :)
If Arkane would have been allowed to develop Redfall as a single player vampire game, it would no doubt have been awesome. I would love Arkane to create something like Vampire Bloodlines.
One of those “things you light to heat up the green”. Wasn’t sure how YT felt about that stuff or even describing it so went ahead and censored it just in case
My dude, I can't believe your channel's grown this much, you're at almost 10k. As one of your very first subscribers I'm happy for you. You know, before this channel inevitably blows up, let it be known I was here way, way back, back when you were still doing the hentai doll reviews. Your argument that the Marie Rose doll was one of the best has forever convinced me. Let's also not forget the amazing top r34 artists lists you used to upload. Those were the days man, I still follow many of the guys you recommended.
Germany is obviously a western country....Poland is a bit more of a grey area. I used to preorder games years ago but not in a long while, I don't see the point these days, especially when I don't play anywhere near the amount I used to. I'm happy to wait till these games are sorted out
When you realize that this industry is multiple times larger than the movie and music industries combined... we need to monitor them. These are companies that are solely focused on profit (like the others) and, if they can, will sell shoddy goods, take advantage of DLC, sell all your information... anything to get that extra few cents on their quarterlies. Be happy to have any watchdog that looks after your interests and keeps these companies from losing their minds. Please don't blindly become loyal to a company that will buy and sell you given the opportunity. I don't subscribe to this guy, but he makes sense and I can see why he's getting so many subscribers.
You don't have to buy anything... that's what gets me, the people who seem to have no impulse control. Just because there's new stuff in the shop doesn't mean you have to buy it. Honestly I think I've spent around 20 bucks on gaming in my entire life. I don't buy jack shit. 😂
There's a strange sub set of the gaming community which seems to thrive on opposing people who complain about the state of the industry. It's truly fascinating and seems particularly unique to gaming. Looking at some of my other passions, if your football team isn't doing well the fans are screaming for change, people are ditching craft beer that doesn't live up to their standards, and people vote with their feet all the time with entertainment or general consumerism. There may be a few in those areas that support a brand no matter what but the scale of this issue in gaming and the whole whale issue in free to play business models just leaves me totally baffled. They would go crazy if they don't feel they are getting a full batch of fries at McDonald's but relish in telling others not to complain about half baked games and lazy practices like the Red Dead Redemption playstation port at nearly double the price for the same game on Xbox.
This is purely conjecture, it might be because of how intrinsically linked with the online sphere gaming is. Folks online will tie their entire identity to a franchise or a game to the point where it's actually become difficult to tell the difference between bots and genuine people. Couple that with the amount of money that can be sunk into gaming, and it's a recipe for disaster. Apologies for the boomer sounding rant btw.
That's the Internet. Full of contrarians who ate too much lead as children, weren't socialised and can't contemplate anything that goes beyond their monkey brain, ego-driven, reactionary ignorance.
This is not unique to gaming. There are people with that general attitude to oppose the "mainstream" view; generally to tell others that their view is unique and more valid than most of the people, therefore making them smarter than most people -- my brother is like that.
I wanna share this here too since I mentioned it on a couple other videos talking about Cyberpunk 2077. I live in poland and I knew the second I read the interviews about how the game was gonna be so much bigger, so much more impressive, so much more in every sense of the word, than witcher 3, that they would not be able to deliver and were exaggerating purely for hype that they absolutely did not need and that ended up biting them in the ass. I told my friend about it and he as usual called me a pessimist and proceeded to pre-order. He got lucky with his monster of a PC that it ran, but other than the lack of bugs there, they couldn't keep practically any of the aformentioned features. It wasn't that hard to see, people just refused to. Before release, ads and billboards for the game were practically on every bus stop, every intersection etc. After release, there was absolutely nothing, except: didn't it sell great? The other thing was the simultaneous release on every system, with the development being restarted from scratch and the pandemic they should've counted losses and released for consoles later or outright delayed until everything was resolved, but since people care more about money than delivering a working product, we got what we got.
What a surprise to see this little number of followers, watching the video I was pretty sure it was from a bigger channel. Congrats on the great work, you deserve a lot more subs, hope you'll make it to many other people mains youtube page
How are people satisfied with Cyberpunk even now? "Oh wow, the shadows under water only look half as shitty as before and they even took floating fire that randomly kills you out of the game". "Oh wow, NPCs now actually dont just ignore me no matter what". How low have the standards dropped? Cmon, you are better than this guys..
Ive technically pre-ordered TWO games this year, one of those I also pre-ordered for 5 others. System Shock remake and Baldur's Gate 3. Edit: I should clarify, Ive been keeping up with the Kickstarter for System Shock since it appeared in 2016. BG3 had an Early Access period. In a way, I KNEW what I was getting when I pre-ordered, and THAT should be the deciding factor on if you pre-order
My father in law got burned so hard by No Man's Sky. Even with FF16 this year I waited for reviews. The only preorder I ever really do is FFXIV expansions. Even with all my trust in Yoshi-P (the director of both FF14 and FF16) because of their track record... I'm still prepared to lose my money there. People shouldn't be so insecure about their preorder gambles just because some TH-camr made a video giving some solid pro-consumer advice. Wonderful list of examples yet again and shown with some entertaining quips.
It was a thing where at a point and time, it was safe to say that you were gonna get what you paid for so you pre-ordered. In the last couple of years, people acting shocked but then saying it's okay because patches is why some tend to fall back to older games because all the patches are available and the game is cheaper.
I agree. Be cautious with preorders. Spend your money how you want, but spend it wisely. And if you do preorder, don't be upset with a company for not finishing the game before release. When you paid for that product early, you let them know that they'd done enough by the time you paid them to stop working.
I commented in the last video that my burn was Aliens Colonial marines. After that I did pre-order two more games, the second Lara Croft and the second XCOM game. Both games were visually and gameplay similar, same engine, and same developers only a few years later. I didn't get burned on either of those and enjoyed them very much.
i preoreder games i want to play as im not a sheep who relies on other peoples opinions to form my own opinion. youre free to keep wasting money on games you dont actually like though just as long as someone else tells you they like it thats all that matters right? lol
@@Hugh.G.Rectionx Keep doing whatever but don't attack people and call them "sheep" for wanting to have a better idea of what they're spending money on.
@@huggabletrubbish you cant get a better idea than experiencing it for yourself first hand. needing to be told what to think by others is the mentality of a sheep.
There is precisely one game I've pre-ordered in the last 10 years - Zelda Tears of the Kingdom. I was so excited that I didn't want to miss out on opening day play, and figured that the big N was not likely to screw up a game so long in development that used a proven engine. Seems like it turned out okay.
They did not as far as I’m concerned, although Amazon did because I pre ordered it through them and didn’t get delivered until a day after the game came out 😅
@@spinosoapus8254 I also preordered through amazon and my copy came with the mail exactly on the 12th of may. I was SO nervous bc I had planned out the weekend with my sister to only play this game all the way through. But it worked out perfectly and I LOVE the game :)
I think a good rule of thumb with new releases is to take the time exclusivity approach, wait a year after release so its cheaper and more feature complete.
I totally agree on all your points. I have been asking question about why people preorder for years now and I have always been hunted with pitchforks, when I present the arguments that it does not make sense. I guess people don't like being "exposed" for doing stupid things :-). I love the picture of shaving in RDR2 - It was the exact moment where I dropped the game, so I didn't get very far. I have actually found 1 preorder that made sense - Asgard's Wrath 2 on Oculus Quest, where the full game Asgard's Wrath 1 is included on the Rift store. I actually get something - I can even complete the first game and cancel the preorder as money has not been taken yet. I also preordered Cyberpunk - through a keyseller, so there was no refund. It was the last time I preordered stuff (except the obvious deal with Asgard's Wrath).
I can’t speak for everyone, but the only games I pre-order are ones that I know for sure I’m going to play and most likely enjoy. I pre-order so I’m guaranteed a copy. For me this consists of entirely Resident Evil games. If a game catches my attention but I’m not familiar with it then I wait for reviews.
"guranteed a Copy" - dude! There are INFINITE Downloads possible today. No need to preorder anymore. And even in earlier days IT just meant to play like a day later after Launch
@nocomment6421 If you pre-order digitally, yes. However, certain games I would rather have a physical copy of. I don’t always trust stores to have it in because there have been times where a newly released game wasn’t on the shelves for weeks or sometimes months after its release. It’s rare for me to pre-order, anyway. Like I said, I keep it to Resident Evil games. I know I enjoy those games and I know that I’m going to play them no matter what, so I might as well pre-order them. I have yet to be disappointed.
@@blueflare3848 No offense but I think you are wrong here. If the phisical copy will be available later why not just wait a couple of months. The problem with pre ordering is it will slowly ruining the games for everyone. Not like one pre order can change things so I'm not blaming you I just think it is wrong to pre order. Exception is when you want something cool what comes with the pre order like a plastic helmet with dangerous mold in it or something like that.
@@Zodroo_Tint I pre-order games that I both want a physical copy of and want to play as soon as possible. A recent example would be RE4 remake. It was the first game I pre-ordered in a couple of years, and it was the first time in a long time that I've truly been hyped for a game. I thought about it for nine months straight, from the time it was announced until it was released. I didn’t care if it ended up being good or bad, I was going to play it regardless. It's one of the few times I actually didn't bother looking at the reviews first. I wanted to form my own opinion without being influenced by others. With that being said, this is a very rare occurrence for me. I'm not the type of person who pre-orders every single game that catches my interest. If it's a game or a company I'm not familiar with, I'll wait for reviews and gameplay footage. That's exactly what I plan to do with the upcoming Silent Hill 2 remake. Regardless, I personally don't see the problem with pre-ordering games as long as you do your research on the game and the company developing it. I don't pre-order often, but when I do I never regret it. The games I pre-order are good quality.
The saddest part is that a lot of people can’t afford to keep paying these outrageous prices but the games keep getting less and less finished per year. It’s almost as that the game price is just the appetiser
I know, how stupid right? I despise these practices of putting DLC in the preorder. That's actually something that pissed me off with Lollipop chainsaw. There were costumes you could get dependant on where you preordered your game, but not only that, I believe it was a random code for those certain DLC costumes. I really hate how I can't unlock every costume due to this business practice. Yep, you get exactly what you tolerate.
Every time I tell people not to trust starfield, I always give an example, usually fallout 76 and no mans sky, they always reply with “oNe oF tHeM iSnT eVeN mAdE bY bEtHeSdA” or “iT gOt fIxEd aFtEr lAuNcH” at that point I just give up. Keep up the awesome content dude ❤️
When will you find out that nobody gives a fuck about your concern. They can make their own decisions. They're not toddlers 😂 We've seen 45 minutes of the game which is more than any other game I've ever seen. I'm not trying to hear this bullshit 🤣
It is fun after currently but yes the launch had the game lagging and also running as fast as old person's life support, so don't buy it or atleast want for a review
The thing with starfield all you have to do is say the premise of the game. Space exploration with planets procedurally generated. That doesnt sound extremely boring?
0:05 people like this r the reason why game devs became so lazy and loot boxes became a thing they will buy everything and game companies know that what kind of weirdo buys a unfinished game? have some standards guys
If you're really dying to try it, pick up the good ol' pirate's hat before dumping money a company's way. If it's good, buy it! If it's not, nothing lost.
The issue with Cyberpunk 2077 was largely that stockholders and executives forced the game to be released too early. After some time of fixing the bugs (at least for me, on a decently strong PC) the game preforms great. A lot of content was cut from the game as a result of the early release but I still really like it.
players also whined fir it to be launch and also the game shouldn't have been launch on ps4 or xbox one at all they were already desuet at their mid life
@@letucetomato I think the amount of content promised just wasn't reasonable for the deadline they ended up having, and ultimately they got pressured into releasing it too early. CDPR has seemed to be genuinely remorseful and idk, i love the game, i'm excited for phantom liberty
I legit got banned from the CP2077 subreddit because I predicted the game would be a scam and we'd have to wait years for it to be playable, like we did with No Man's Sky and Fallout 76. Suffice to say I was beyond correct. I still haven't been unbanned despite my repeal requests and I wasn't apologized to by a single person who down-dooted me in the comments. What a joke of a community.
Great series. I wanted to let you know that as I was watching your video, I was wavering between putting down $99.99 USD on Starfield so that I could preload it and be able to play it during Labor Day weekend as well have access to the OST and digital art book. After watching this second video…how about no. I was drawn to Starfield because the game combines the space exploration of No Man’s Sky with the gunfights of Borderlands with the open story of Skyrim. What could go wrong? Well, your videos reminded me that EVERYTHING could go wrong. And what good is it spending $100 USD to play a game early if it’s broken? I think I’ll purchase the Cyberpunk DLC instead. It’s only $30, a safer purchase, and I can buy and enjoy some Labor Day grub while I wait for Starfield reviews. Thanks.
I am in the same boat as you with Starfield. My friends are SCREECHING about how amazing of a game it is. 11/10 masterpiece! Its the BEST GAME ever made! They perfected it all! This is a game people will talk about for decades! etc. I'm... Not buying it. No. I know Bethesda. I know them so damn well. I loved and adored their stuff since the days of Morrowind and Oblivion, but I can't forget the bad they have done. I am absolutely sure Starfield is a great game. So many people are loving it! Great! Maybe I will too, come next year in a 5-6 months time, after the "honeymoon phase" has died down a bit - and I know I will get peoples slightly more sober opinions on it. Its so easy and so dangerous to get pulled along hype trains these days - I know that too well myself. Starfield is not going anywhere. It will be there for me in half a year's time - and so will many other games to come. No rush. No pressure. Thats my mindset at least.
Really good video man, keep it up. Relating to this topic, I’ll never ever preorder a game I just don’t see the point. Also I consider myself a patient gamer, I won’t buy a game unless it’s 5 dollars or less no matter how much time I have to wait for it
You might want to check: Accursed Farms I won't buy a game at all. I did and I enjoyed owning games but slowly and steadily I changed my mind. Now I own hundreds of games what nobody can update from me but I didn't payed for any of them. I never regret my decision to be in the "bay".
@@Kavarite I saw Ghostrunner on yt when it released, bought it, 100%-ed it and I can safely say that it is one of the best games that have been released in the last 3 years.
Elden ring had a problems on launch , the open world areas had bad perfomance on launch, they fixed with patches, dark souls 3 still has stuttering problems, they make good games, but they are far from setting up standards.
@SuperKratosgamer Well, compared to 99% of games released in the last few years, I would say that the issues that Elden Ring had on launch are kinda easier to look over. Yes, the game was bad at launch, but it was far better than regular AAA games.
Great video, subscribed because of it. I haven't pre-ordered a game since Borderlands 3, and that's purely because it's my favourite franchise and it came with a really decent pre-order bonus from Game (it was a disc edition, I don't buy ANY full price game digitally.) Before and after that game, I wait for reviews, usually ACG. If he says it's a good game but broken, so wait, then that's what I do. Cyberpunk 2077 being a recent example. I didn't buy it until it had been out about a year, and by that time it was £15. I can't help but feel, those people who are offended by your first video are likely offended because deep down they know they're mugs for pre-ordering broken games. They're not angry at you, they're angry at themselves for being the idiots that allow publishers to get away with releasing glitchy, unfinished games. I see Starfield already has £100 pre-orders. That's just cuckoo given Bethesdas track record. The game won't be properly playable until at LEAST a year after release, and by that time it'll be £20 or less. When it's on Gamepass at launch, I think it's even more cuckoo people are even buying it. Just sample it first at least.
Also Starfield will be a Big Game for crackers (not white people but people who crack video games). I'm pretty sure it is a challange for them and this is their "game" not the game itself. The developers make a game, the studio forcing them to do some deffensive programming and these people racing who can crack the game first. Usually it is done within days, sometimes it is within hours. No need for preorder, the final crack will come with preorder bonusses.
...the last one my family pre-ordered was fallout 76. i may like the game now, but those maybe 5-10 hours played in total after release untell maybe a year ago tells you everything. helmet was kinda cool though.

I'm so confident in Starfields release I've booked the week AFTER launch off so I can read all the reviews and they can squeeze a couple of patches out before I'll part with any money
Hope you don't regret it, cause todd's little lies and "quality" in the modders kept fixing bethesda's messes for so long now and they'll do it again for free no less.
I think it's great that more people are talking about this. I am absolutely ready for starfield to launch, be in a shitty state but then mods come out and people will be like "Dudee, this game is so good, just install a few mods and bam, GOTY."
Since you care about this topic, let me share you the story of how I feel into “the dark side”. I’ve played games since PS1, and it was the PS4 that made me go digital only. I would always go to my local gaming stores, during the PS3 era some games started adding Pre-order bonuses that you would access by giving your personal info (mail, etc) and paying. Sadly, the change happened in the PS4 era. You see gaming stores stopped being about gaming and both “small retailers” and named retailers would start selling other geek stuff alongside games. This shift wasn’t only about the product they sold but also about the quality of them acquiring games. First it was Naruto Storm 4, game took long to arrive and I had to wait cause I got a pre order bones (new characters) that I wouldn’t get online cause it was too late. Then I DID LOSE. I wanted to get Re2 Remake on a premium edition… the delay was 1 month, 1 FREAKING MONTH! CANCELLED that and now everytime I look at my PS store I get a notification about the 4 dollars I should spent to get 2 hand guns, and missed on that Leon statue. Conclusion. Online pre order does 2 great things. 1) If you follow a game, you get instant access and shouldn’t be spoiled. Most singleplayer games have IDIOTS getting their number 1 recommended video against the final boss and a spoiler. Just play and don’t touch the internet until it’s finished. 2) It is way more convenient. Like I said during PS4 era the quality of game retailers dropped MASSIVELY. Going there is not a pleasant experience anymore. So going to places like that, being offered subscriptions to their magazine and other deals that you will refuse is annoying. So I don’t feel safe giving my info to them if I want to preorder. The online store is quick and the discounts for old games are better than what I see IRL (besides second hand market… sometimes). Conclusion, pre ordering is a personal deal. There is nothing to be gained from waiting “a few days”. I don’t care nor agree with the opinions of your classic IGN game reviewer to make a purchase. And the games I choose have given me the enjoyment I seek. And if I don’t care about the game… I don’t buy. And I I do buy… it’s after a LONG TIME with a great discount and all DLCs. Obviously I won’t preorder a Battlefield, I was alive for the Battlefield 4 disaster. And console is somehow getting the best ports lately. Games like Elden Ring and RE4 Remake got a lot of Drama… ON THE PC OPTIMIZATION COMMUNITY! Since the topic is Day 1 buying, console has an unmentioned advantage cause PC ports are the latest gaming drama with games like The Last of Us Remake. And on Day 1 the mods that we all mention aren’t available for PC until some time. End of essay. This was way longer than I expected. Short version: Retailers suck and if you buy day 1, buy for your own interest, don’t buy every single game in the market.
You ever wonder if programmers made several "accidents and mistakes" while working all that crunch? Also, is it possible that investors like private equity firms pushed to enact such predatory practices?
I learned back in 2009 with Left 4 Dead 2. It's regarded as a amazing masterpiece today, but for a little kid spending $60 on what was basically a skin and map pack with 2 new infected I have never felt more ripped off.
What I have learned above all else in the last 5-6 years, is that games are not going to suddenly disappear off the deep end if I do not pre-order them or buy them at launch day. Give games time. Wait a bit. Starfield just came out, for instance. And I am keeping it at an arms length, because I KNOW just how Bethesda works. I know better than to jump on it and let the hypetrain take me all the way. Whenever new games comes out now, I always give them a month or three to linger to let that "honeymoon" phase ride itself out. If the game is still amazing and absolutely incredible? Hey, great! Maybe I should buy it soon then! But me, and many others out there, are tired of giving our money to half-baked products and overpromised things. If we want gaming to become better and climb out of the hellhole it currently is stuck in with microtransactions, scummy practices and not even half-way done games being sold for outrageous prices... Then we need to show that we do not stand for it. That we are skeptical and not taking the bait so easily. Easier said than done of course...
If you really want the pre-order bonuses and can’t help but pre-order digital, then do it and turn off automatic downloads. If the game turns out to be bad from looking at reviews, ask for a refund as they can’t say no if you haven’t downloaded yet.
I whole heartedly believe that idiots that defend and pre order every new game just so they can get some fancy little cosmetics are to Blame for how bad the gaming industry is right now
Developers, Publishers and Gamers ruining the game industry and they are egually responsible for it. Pre ordering is one of the reason Gamers are responsible but I don't think it is the only reason.
@@Zodroo_Tint I agree with you. Many reasons go with it. Early access is another reason. Selling an unfinished game and making a juicy "roadmap" that makes the game look like it's bound for greatness, only for the devs to make millions of dollars then development to mysteriously slow down a lot. People defend this and the developers like they can't take care of themselves and it is our moral responsibility to make them millionaires.
I love Cyberpunk, but everything you say is completely true. I got really annoyed when the game crashed multiple times and saves disappeared. Starfield is just such an issue.... You make great videos - awesome. Thank you very much!
It's ironic how a big theme in cyberpunk is that corporations ruin basically everything they touch. Not only did cyberpunk release in a terrible state for greedy reasons but gaming as a whole mostly started going downhill when huge corporations started getting involved in the development of video games.

If Daedalic had made a Gollum game, but in the style of their point-and-click adventures, it could have been *so* good.
Compared to the others, the Daedalic one made me more sad than laugh. They bite off way more than they can chew.
What happened to that creative guy who left? Is he still developing games?

My first ever preorder experience was with Need For Speed 2015. And while the launch wasn't disastrous in comparison, it certainly was for me personally
As someone who was always a big fan of the franchise, back in 2014 after years of no NFS game about illegal street racing and car tuning and Need for Speed World shutting down. Without playing a demo or the beta (because those were console only and I pre-ordered the PC version)
A few weeks after my preorder, a blog post was released that the PC version of the game would be delayed for a whole 6 MONTHS, all just to remove a frame rate limiter.
So fast forward 4 years and the only other game I would ever preorder in my life was Cyberpunk...
so you never learned?
LMAO you didnt learn
I have always been too broke to pre-order games. I have never, not once, regretted just buying the games a few weeks after. Usually on a discount.

And now we have battlebit remastered added to the mix fighting for that spotlight.

Bro pay those idiots no mind, you are speaking facts. Let them mald.

The disastrous release of Cyberpunk 2077 is what convinced me to stop pre-ordering video games
I was so excited for this one and CD Project Red dropped the ball, big time.
While binging your archive and watching this one, I gotta wonder just how hard you were facepalming when The Day Before came out, muttering to yourself, "I warned them all... but they would not listen..."
And yet those same moths will dive bomb the next bright flame of a cash grab to announce a pre-order Collector Edition. You simply can't fix stupid, merely ensure you're not caught in its blast radius.
lol it’s usually the same cycle. Something is announced, I give a warning, people say “my money my choice”, then that Something turns out to be garbage. The next thing is announced, and the cycle continues
Also hey thanks for binging 🤝
Dont care who barfed out the rushed game. They made it - they suffer
It's certainly not all developers. Capcom have released 26 Resident Evil games over a 26 year time period. Everyone of them was finished, playable, enjoyable and reasonably well reviewed.
As per usual. Corporate makes everything soulless.
if there's many ppl like dat.. i wonder if i open a car company that sells cars with only body, interior, exhaust, 2 tires, and only engine block case and i charge it in full price i will still get many costumer and they wont complain when i said " you just bought your car, wait 3 month for the fix or you can pay additional $5000 for faster service or $10000 for extra custom " ,,,
Nope, gamers are a special kind of stupid.

Solution is simple:
*Don't. Preorder. No matter. What.*
Especially not from triple A companies.
@@simplysmiley4670nah, if you are sure a game will be good, you can pre order, I don't think it's automatically bad

I agree completely, but I am still proud of my amored core pre order
and the main problem is not that they patch it later , the problem is if they decide that the sales are not expected and they end the game before properly patching it.

Full of contrarians who ate too much lead as children, weren't socialised and can't contemplate anything that goes beyond their monkey brain, ego-driven, reactionary ignorance.
simply put gamers are cattle and deserve EA and Activision
Biggest betrayal from rockstar was not even remastering red dead redemption. This man speaks nothing but facts
What a surprise to see this little number of followers, watching the video I was pretty sure it was from a bigger channel.

I've pre-ordered 2, Dead Space and Starfield. Guess I'll find out Friday if I'm 2 for 2 with wins.

I love people who pre order games, we need those people to take the hit and give us the real reviews. The heroes saving me money

The moment Cyberpunk 2077 showed actual gameplay footage of the hand to hand combat was the moment my heart sank. I knew it was gonna SUUUUUUCK

After No Mans Sky I don't think I will ever pre-order again. Broke my heart and even ES6 (when it comes out in 10 years) won't trick me into doing it.
The issue with Cyberpunk 2077 was largely that stockholders and executives forced the game to be released too early.

@SuperKratosgamer Well, compared to 99% of games released in the last few years, I would say that the issues that Elden Ring had on launch are kinda easier to look over. Yes, the game was bad at launch, but it was far better than regular AAA games.
Great video, subscribed because of it.
I haven't pre-ordered a game since Borderlands 3, and that's purely because it's my favourite franchise and it came with a really decent pre-order bonus from Game (it was a disc edition, I don't buy ANY full price game digitally.)
Before and after that game, I wait for reviews, usually ACG.

I don’t usually comment on videos but this right here is pure gold keep up the good work these companies have to do better
Great presentation and commentary. I look forward to seeing your channel grow - it will
