      It is actually straight forward, but you need the right tools :)

    Yeah.. I watched the vid for brake discs, went to do it myself, ofc they were all stuck, regreted the DIY decision multiple times, got it done because I could just hammer left right up down as old ones are junked anyway. But I aint falling for it again, looks easy on the video and I dont have impact gun which would be key to success here since its tight space for extension. But thanks for the vid, good to know what it takes.

      No problem, sorry to hear you had a bad time doing the discs!

    So, I've just changed both front bearings. Left one I had to take to service, to loosen axle bolt. They had to use pneumatic impact and 3/4 inch breaker bar (I broke two 1/2 inch breaker bars). Then the axle slided easily off. It seemed to me, than it was changed before, because there was copper antiseize. Right bearing was originnal. I could loosen axle bolt by myself after soaking it with penetrating oil for few days. But the axle was complete stuck in bearing. I had to use press tool to pop it out and same process for getting it in. All in all it took many days to collect tools, ideas and get the job done

      Wow that's just bad luck...
      It's always a gamble when doing repairs at home by yourself. It turned out fine for me, but I feel your pain!

      I've broken three auto parts store breaker bars: two pretty easily. Now I've got a set of decent ones through ordering them. Avoid the bars with tapered handles, generally: you don't want them to flex.

    Do you know what the torque should be on the axle bolt

    • @BjornV
      @BjornV  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No idea, sorry! At work we tighten them with our impact gun.

      You will have to check the bolt pattern in the rear. There might be 3 or 4 bolts.

    Any reason why you needed to disconnect the ball joint and push back the axle? Once the bolts are loose, can’t you just pry the bearing assembly forward, and have it come off? Seems unnecessary unless I’ve missed something

    • @BjornV
      @BjornV  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Usually the bolts are blocked by the axle. (On most of the cars I've worked on)
      And sometimes even when loosening the bolts, you're not able to slip out the bearing assembly.
      Like on the Navara d40 you need to hammer it out.

    Do all the MK6 golf TDI's have a 3 bolt layout. I have a 1.6 TDI and need to replace the driver front bearing.

    • @BjornV
      @BjornV  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      No there are 2 versions, 4 bolt and 3 bolt.
      Just turn your wheel and check the bolts in the rear ;) it's easy to spot.

      I'm unsure if you can, but taking out the cv makes your life easyer.

    I did not see him using a torque wrench to tighten the bearing from outside.

    • @BjornV
      @BjornV  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      No that's right. I do it with an impact wrench at work as well. But I know the feeling of how tight it should be.
