  • Our Offgrid caravan finally becomes offgrid! I Install a huge 300w panel on the roof of the poptop, and start the long (multivideo) task of wiring all the fun stuff up. Also make a few changes to the plumbing and sink as it was still leaking :$
    We sold our little Jayco dove and bought this run down Windsor Windcheater in need of some love! The is the fourth episode on the makeover of our little beast and the good times she'll give us. This will be an off grid home away from home, as we also live in an off grid tiny house!

    I know this is probably a little late but you can pull the knobs off the cooktop and there is an adjustment in there for low flame setting, pretty much just screw them all the way in and back off 1/4 turn.

    Really enjoying this series. After living in Ballarat and now back in Brisbane, I'd forgotten what cold and rain was. :)

      Haha yeah I was hanging for the heater install part where I could work in the warmth that's for sure!

      Thanks for watching and for the feedback! I've spent a lot of time inside the caravan so far, and it hasn't even left the driveway :)

      Yeah we did the same thing we turned our caravan from a 2 person van into a 5 person van and I found once I started I wanted it perfected before I used it but totally worth it our kids love it your kitchen came up unreal my wife loves the colours and wants to do the same to ours now.

      @@bradcheshire8243 haha, just to watch the kids rip it apart :) yeah I can't wait to get out and about, and I wish I could take credit for the kitchen colours, but my better half chose that colour scheme.

    Like your vids. We have a 2000 Windcheater, bought it new, it's been a great van. Looking at doing a few mods to legally increase road clearance and strengthen for dirt roads without effecting towing stability. Would like to see what you have planned.

      Thanks for the feedback! Yeah i towed it back empty from Newcastle all ok, but she's a bit heavier now. This axle has been flipped so she's pretty high off the ground and has a bit of clearance currently. This needs to be beefed up however and I've been looking at a stronger solid axle and leaf springs. Obviously I'll record that process when I get to it! :)

      @@lifeoffgrid9508 Ive also been toying with flipping the axle but don't want to do it myself. Also worried about the axle not contained within the springs if I do. Who did yours and have there been any issues at all? Cheers

    Lovely informative vid mate, much appreciated, just wondering what Sika you went with? and how has it held up? Ta

      @lifeoffgrid9508  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I just used sika 11FC, it's held up really well, just some discolouration around the window I fitted, but yeah solars still rock solid. So with no screws, I'm very impressed with the sticking power.

    Hi, great video. Just wondering where you sourced the solar panel and fittings?

    • @lifeoffgrid9508
      @lifeoffgrid9508  ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry for the late reply. Generally all this stuff came of eBay. I noticed they still sell the panel atm on eBay, and it has held up very well for us!

    Loving the vids mate! Just purchased a similar style van have started a reno on it similar to yours! What brand and size water pump did you end up going with after the first one wasnt any good?

    • @lifeoffgrid9508
      @lifeoffgrid9508  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey there. Yeah the first one was a shocker. You'd wake the whole caravan park up and have to fight your way out of there lol
      The second attempt was much more researched and I ended getting a shurflo 4009. It's so quiet and has the ability to run down to quite low without having the surges the cheaper pump had. It's been a game changer and well worth the extra $$. I paid $128 for mine, possibly get it a tad cheaper if you hunt around. Cheers for the feedback!

    Hey mate how’s the solar panel handled it over time ? Any tips ?

    • @lifeoffgrid9508
      @lifeoffgrid9508  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Solar panel has been more than enough for us, living in an off grid house with 15kw of solar I thought the 300w wouldn't be enough. But yeah its been great and the battery charges extremely quickly from it. That said we don't generally use a heap of power when free camping, so if your running a tv or coffee machine etc , maybe more panels would be required.

      @@lifeoffgrid9508 how did you go through the roof with the cable just drilled your own hole ?

    • @lifeoffgrid9508
      @lifeoffgrid9508  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@uckfay2626 yeah essentially. I drilled from Inside the van so got the positioning correct, and then fed the cable down the existing conduit we had for the lighting
