  • This is it!!! The last build episode before our short holiday! I'm going to revisit this series in a few months when the caravans been settled in and used. There will no doubt be a bunch of changes and upgrades to come to our little beast, and i look forwards to the challenge. But in the meantime, i just wanted to thank everyone that's ever watched the series or contributed to the comment sections, its been a blast and i've learnt a lot along the way!
    There no better time to start a new project than now, so get out there and do it!!!!
    We sold our little Jayco dove and bought this run down Windsor Windcheater in need of some love! The is the fourth episode on the makeover of our little beast and the good times she'll give us. This will be an off grid home away from home, as we also live in an off grid tiny house!

    Nice reno! BTW the ferry and camp site looks like Narrung Ferry camps site if I'm not mistaken, and then a bit of Coorong and South East SA or SW Victoria action? Looks great regardless!

    The first video of yours I watched was the MTM 62sx chainsaw video because I'd just bought one and when I searched youtube yours popped up , I've followed the caravan reno with interest and I must say I'm impressed with your multi skill ability , attention to detail and thoroughness . What a great job , I'm really happy for you and to see you already have a trip away is icing on the cake , well done .
    I hope you make many happy memories with your family with it , I'm sure you will :-)

    Can I ask why you mounted the blinds that way? The caravan looked friggan awesome

    • @lifeoffgrid9508
      @lifeoffgrid9508  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry for late reply. Do yo mean instead of mounting them on the walls of the van? I actually fit blinds for my job, so I'll always choose good fixings first over anything else, especially on a bouncing caravan. The top fix I did was screwed into 18mm mdf whereas the face fix option was just into 5mm ply sheeting that they use to clad the vans with. The chance of me lining up with a 'stud' was probably slim so I just chose the sturdier option. Hope that helps!

    Hi mate, I like what you've done, we have the same van (2000) since new. Was the axle actually flipped/rotated or did you just under sling the the axle under the spring set. Reason I'm asking is that the original axle is a step axle so the van sits closer to the road, was yours the same? cheers and thx

    • @lifeoffgrid9508
      @lifeoffgrid9508  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry for the late reply! Ha, first time someones said they have the same van as us, that's great! Yes, it was a step axle we had, It was rotated already when I bought the van so it had some lift already. I then also located the axle under the spring purchased as well, so it had quite a bit of lift. I have since deleted this setup though as we had weight issues bending the smaller axle (probably the bed frame and kitchen reno), and I have put a 3000kg axle with larger breaks on the van. This is still underselling and the van sits even higher with off-road tyres, I am currently doing a new video on all the updates we done to the van, so I've you can wait a little longer I'll address it there. We have just bought a new van and are selling this Wincheater currently, so if you can't be bothered just buy ours! :-)

      @@lifeoffgrid9508 no prob thx for the reply. I’ve just put a new straight parallel bearing axle and double eye springs set on the van. It sits high and legal doesn’t drag its backside anymore when going over ruts & driveways etc. it sits tight on the road and has added 300kg weight payload. Legal too as it’s engineered. I’ve done heaps to it, was going to sell as we were looking to buy a new van but have decided to keep it as current vans are over the top expensive and there’s to many dodgy builders. I know this van after more than 20 years so we are happy to just keep going with it, it’s strong and built in 2000 before all the over hyped up van builders these day. I met another guy in Cooktown who is rebuilding a Windcheater, seemed very pleased. Anyway we should collaborate if Interested in 4x4 travels as I have a YT ch about mostly off-road. I’ve only a few short vids as haven’t had the time for it. The vans been on dirt but we plan to do more with it soon & I’ll upload that later. Hit me up bro cheers

    Hey mate. Looking so good.
    Our van Reno is going very slowly. It’s great having it stored on a family members property but it’s about 3 hours drive away so don’t get to work on it much.
    What’s the model number for the camera at the back of the van?

    • @lifeoffgrid9508
      @lifeoffgrid9508  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey again bud! Yeah that would be tough with the drive times to get work done. I was just walking out after dinner and working late just trying to get through it all some nights. That camera was an eBay Special like most of my stuff, but while it looked ok in the vid, cops a lot of static and interference when driving most places. If possible I’d try and find with just a better looking aerial/ more money than the cheapest one on there, or hard waive the video signal under the van and car which I’m about to do to mine. They are invaluable, but mine needs to be clearer. Good luck!

      @@lifeoffgrid9508 Thanks for the reply - I thought I was going crazy, but not a browser issue - I see a total of 23 videos in the playlist, in each of 3 different browsers, one of which I wasn't logged in on. 2x 10, 2x 11 and 3 x 12. Very strange, but not really a hassle lol

    i think you really need to get mppt for solar and have the vehicle charge system seperate

    • @lifeoffgrid9508
      @lifeoffgrid9508  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Ctek is a mppt solar charger, not a pwm. I have gone through and finally found my voltage leak in the old fridge wiring. Was a nightmare to locate. Also the vehicle charge system isn't active currently as I don't have the necessary pins on the tow car wired in yet, like I mentioned in the vid I'll just have to get around to that later. The fridge runs direct on a separate circuit now via auxillary battery in the tow car. Cheers
