I remember they recommended installing a VM inside XP Mode as well. So you would actually end up with 2 antivirus apps running when you had this setup following Microsoft's recommendations.
That I will admit is something I did not know. I did install XP Mode on my Win7 back in the day, but I never knew you could put a shortcut like that in the Win7 Start Menu to launch an app in XP mode without needing to actually start the XP VM (after obviously installing it first).
Indeed! I tried XP Mode about 2~3 years ago, but i didn't notice that feature back then, so it took me by surprise to see how smooth and seamless it worked.
I'm surprised the installer for Windows XP Mode is still up. I'd figure it'd be taken down when Windows XP ended support, but since Windows 7 is still being support I guess it makes sense. Also, just a FYI for you Michael, Windows Virtual PC and Microsoft Virtual PC are separate products. Windows Virtual PC will actually refuse to run if it detects that Microsoft Virtual PC is installed.
If it is retail Windows 95, its built-in MS-DOS 7.0 can natively run Windows 3.x without issue. If it is 95 OSR 2.x, then you need to find the proper OSR2Fix patch to the IO.SYS to do so.
I still use XP Mode for some programs that wouldn’t install on 7 properly. Programs start slowly the first time, but other than that, it’s very useful.
Dude...your channel is awesome. All these videos are so interesting and I love them. Fantastic job. Also I remember getting Virtual PC 2007 to run years ago as a kid and I felt like a king lol

I remember Windows XP Mode! Parallels offers something similar for macOS today quite surprisingly, as I migrated to macOS on my laptop and had fun with Parallels on it. Impressive.
Back when I was keeping track on Windows 7, it was one of the mode that I really wanted to try but unable to do so as this mode is limited to Windows 7 Pro/Ultimate. Maybe I should fire up a VM and try this too
Just for fun. I've just installed XP mode (WindowsXPMode-en_us.exe installer) on Linux using Wine. Then mounted its .vhd file inside VirtualBox. Installed Guest Addi(c)tions, enabled seamless mode and BOOM - Windows XP Mode on Linux :) Though it didn't want to activate. But still, worked just fine.

Hi @Michael MJD ~ I realize that this video is getting a bit long in the tooth, but we actually need to "revive" and old [expensive] 32-bit XP utility for a project. As it's been tough-sledding trying to find a decent old XP laptop, I've been thinking about VMs and Windows XP Mode, in particular. In your mind, would it make sense for us to, perhaps, broaden the search and look for either a decent Win 7 laptop or an even newer Win 10 laptop and use Windows XP Mode to run the old XP utility I mentioned? As I understand it, you used a Win 10 PC to run a Win 7 VM and, finally, used Windows XP mode - from Windows 7 - to start and use Win XP in Windows XP mode. Is that correct? Anyway, I'd appreciate any thoughts you might have on how you would approach buying an old machine, if you were in our situation. By the way, we're long-time Mac users, so we don't presently own a PC of any kind. Thank you for your help.
I've actually been wanting to do something like this for a while now, I really want to try running as many virtual machines inside of each other as possible. Yeah, I used it before briefly. You cannot really play any games on it though, as it does not support any form of scaling or whatnot. Full screen app will just shrink into a tiny window.
Good advice. I'm having odd network connections. Some pages will load without a problem and others will tell me there is a internet connectivity issue. It's doing my head in.
Hey Michael, do you know the PC emulation software called PCem? Is not a virtual machine, is a PC emulator like a videogame emulator. You can run really old operating systems which you couldn't run well otherwise with Virtual Machine software.
