Recommend watching Motherland: Fort Salem After the Storm as you watch each episode. After the Storm is a short video of the writer and some of the actresses talking about each episode. It offers insight into the making of the episode and also more of the backstory, it helps you get a deeper understanding of the show. I find myself appreciating the show much more, also the casts are fun. I think the show suffers a mild(really mild) case of pacing problem, probably due to the limited episodes, but you probably wont notice it cuz the writing is great.

You don't know how much I was hoping you would react to this show. Just some FYI from various interviews of cast and crew, witches are born with a second set of vocal chords that produce Seeds (shows version of magic), witches made a deal to fight the enemies of the government but are essentially slaves to them, if you look on the map in the credits you will see there are only 29 states that make up the US, the wedge you see on the map is the Cession which is one huge Indian Reservation it is where Raelle is from, most of this stuff is not in the show per se but was talked about by the show creator Eliot Laurence in an interview. Hope that helps you with some background of the world.
