Currently in Flight Engineer training for c130s, dying to put in a few years and transfer to a combat rescue unit as an eng/gunner on Pavehawks. Really hope I get there
129th HH-60 Pavehawk Crew Chief 2001 to 2019. Before joining the 129th, was a Harrier Plane Captain in the Marines for 10 years. Grew up in Mountain View, so was great to finish and retire in my hometown.

Hey dude so yeah Air Force and general SW classifications can be super confusing. Some of the clips in this video are of PJ’s/SMA however the army, marines, and navy also have CSAR units. PJ’s do fall under SOCCOM/AFSOC and are basically the ultimate CSAR unit designed specifically for Pilot and crew recovery however they are obviously a bit less specialized now and operate in pretty much any rescue role on the civilian or military side as well as performing as the medic for 24th STS and other ODA’s.
Yes and no ig umm lately the NAVY SARCs have been being used in more SOC operations because they have more training than what PJs do but yes PJs are AFSOC
This is a combat rescue unit(s), so the guys jumping out of airplanes are PJs, the pilots are CSAR pilots, the aircrew are SMAs (Special Missions Aviators - gunners/flight engineers)

The PJs are still and always gonna be apart of SOC but they’re being replaced sort of if that makes sense
