We care for the game, our officials, and the communities we serve. That spirit, equal parts passion and compassion, led us to found Official Finders in 2009. In the years since we've slowly but steadily built an organization that sources and trains officials that help struggling youth sports organizations. More than filling a job for a game, our mission is helping to create work with meaning.

I have my first game tonight and it has been a while since we did our training. Thank you so much for this video and keep up the good work.

Would also highly recommend a men's athletic cup/women's pelvic protector for working behind the dish. (Doesn't hurt to wear it in the field too.)

Every time when someone ask me something along the lines of what an umpire is, I send them this.

What is this guy's name. He's a very good and he explains thing to a "T". Awesome videos. I'm 53 and I umpired a little when I was in my 20's but not for long, so I have a lot to learn and this guy is fantastic. Thanks man, great job.

Love your videos. If and when you make a new one, a video on footwork and getting into position would be great

it would be great to learn some of these for younger girls softball where rules vary and making calls is difficult due to skill level

There are some additional signals that umpires need to know, since I had watched a lot of baseball all over the years:
    1. The Beanball Warning - usually used when a pitcher hits a batter intentionally, this is where you stop play, and you point to the pitcher, and to the dugout---which is the "warning" signal, which states that if the pitcher beans the batter again, both the pitcher and the coach (or manager) will be tossed from the game.
    2. The Home Run signal - when you see the ball successfully go over the fence on a batted ball without bouncing in the field first, you raise one arm and do several circles around with that arm, to indicate a home run.
    3. Time Out - this is where you will raise both hands, so that the arms are like the "11" and "1" on a clock - this indicates a time out, and play is halted then, and you usually will say "Time!"

Also, keenly, you use the "out" signal to indicate an ejection, The way to do that is to run up to the player meriting bing tossed usually when the ball is not in play, and give the "out" signal in either two ways-----doing the signal in place, or do a sort of pivot before making the "out" signal for dramatic purposes, as they do at the major leagues.

You forgot the cup for protective gear for a home plate umpire

With the equipment aspect would I be able to wear a hockey style catchers mask(I am a catcher so it saves some money because I already have protective gear)?

Some umpires do that, the only thing you need to make sure is that it’s all black with no decals.
The other downside is that you can’t wear a hat which can give you a bit of shade on hotter days.

Since when should the umpire stand between the catcher and the batter?? This doesn't sound safe..

    • @hannahhugo8256

Believe it or not, it's actually saver than being at the other side. This is because a foul ball is more likely to go to the other side of the catcher than it is to go straight back. If you're wondering about the catcher catching or not catching, it's the same likelihood either side.

The basics of umpiring As soon as someone hurt your feelings, use your authority on the field to make bullshit calls, and ensure that the team that hurt your feelings, loses because you’re an overly sensitive baby with a god complex.

Jesus someone just lost a game to a bad ump😂 real talk though, we all have our insecurities -- some of us are simply self aware enough to recognize them and do our best to not take then out on others
