Even if he dosnt stick with this, theese will be lessons that carry into his adult life. Like the adults are saying, he is learning communication skills, and how to have a love for a hobby. He is learning the same discipline and commitment and understanding that you would from any other competitive sport. I am a very pro youth sports person and wish him the best, whether being an Ump is something he makes into a career, or a hobby on weekend.

I umpired 10 years straight, even while in the USAF. I went into a shoe store one day and found Umpire Plate shoes that were my size. I still have my gear but I work nights. There's nothing like a freshly mowed lawn and stadium lights.
i think general consensus is that every person that plays sports on the planet hates refs, the fact that this kid is starting so young blows my mind. Maybe he can be the one to bring us together.
yo this kid umped at my game, he was nice cool and the best ump ever, thank you lathan for umping for ap baseball. One of the games you umped was anything outdoors vs. eastern. I was on anything outdoors, but even though we lost, it was very fun to have lathan as one of our umps. Lathans the BEST!!!!
It's great that he got the scholarship for Wendelstedt. I called the school when I was 27, thinking I'd attend, and they told me, "You're probably too old." Thanks.
@@lindamcdaniel2419 what I was referring to Linda was Ethan Salas who is 16 and signed to the padres so it would be cool for the mlb to sign younger umpires obviously he would have to work his way up they’d probably have him coach minor league games and as he gets more comfortable he’ll move up
