  • Torticollis is a condition in which a baby's head is "twisted" or turned to the side and tilted to the opposite side. Here the babies have their head tilted to the left and rotated to the right. It can also happen in adults but this playlist is dedicated to the treatment of torticollis in babies. I would like to thank Bode's family who allowed me to come into their home for 6 hours at a time to film him starting when he was 1 month old. ...And then to return and do it again. Wow! Bode does not have torticollis. Bode was quite tolerant of being turned and stretched this way and that. I hope you find these videos useful. If you believe your baby has torticollis, consult your doctor and a pediatric physical therapist with experience treating a child with torticollis for a program specifically designed to address your specific child's recommendations. Do not delay. Earlier treatment is predictive of better outcomes and shorter treatment.
    Here are the clinical guidelines for treatment of congenital Muscular Torticollis:

      A 7 month old is likely to be less cooperative. You will need to consult with a local therapist to determine what is best for your child

      Hey friend, you need intervention asap as from the reading I've done it extremely difficult to make much improvement at all by the time they get to teens without intensive longer term interventions and the kid/adult has to be a active willing participant who is being self aware and actively trying to constantly correct it all the time... this seems to get more and more true pretty quickly even in kids so early intervention is your best bet for the fastest resolution. Get a referral from your doctor for physical therapy and/or occupational therapy and advocate for your child endlessly to the point of being annoying. My sister dropped my nephew with me as a infant and I've been his primary Caregiver since then and he was showing signs of being different as a baby. All the doctors were constantly telling me "some kids are just late bloomers" or "well he's meeting most of his milestones technically on time just the late end of normal" (nevermind that I tell them 100 Times that I had to work with him constantly to meet these milestones that come naturally to most children), or "let's wait and see. We don't like to be alarmist about this it's most likely nothing to worry about"... fast forward a few years and endless battles to get him into a child psychologists for a formal evaluation and diagnosis (maine has few specialists for children and it's a triage sort of situation where the most severe kids jump the line) and he get diagnosed with autism. Fast forward another few years of almost no services, support, or even education on what to do to help him succeed and he starts school. School means access to specialists and people trained to help such kids. They were astonished at how well he was doing. With his diagnosis and original evaluation they assumed he would be a challenge (although not as difficult as so many who have more prominent autism and extreme learning disabilities too). They ask many times if I had paid for private care or treatment like aba, but I just couldn't afford such things. I told them the truth I spent years reading everything I could find on ways to work with David and help him. I joined Facebook groups of parents of and adults with autism and talked to all of them about what worked for them and sometimes shared what worked for me. I had many a sleepless night and everyday as a toddler was a battle but we did it anyway. David is a amazing kid and all the studies show the same thing, early diagnosis and intervention means a HUGE difference in the long-term outcome of kids. This applies almost universally yet we still have so many medical professionals that are "wait and see" then when it's a total disaster is finally when you get some intervention. No! Advocate for your baby, tell the doctor what is going to happen don't ask or wait for them to suggest something. Read up on the issue and the treatment and do as much at home as possible as often as possible. Don't stop advocating for your baby until you get the best outcome possible for them.
      Good luck friend and to all the other people who might have needed to hear this.

    Is it ok to do the exercise when the baby is sleeping? Does a sleeping baby have any impacts on its muscle being relaxed and the exercise effectiveness?

    • @pediatricPTexercises
      @pediatricPTexercises  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Some families tell me it is easier to perform the stretches when their baby is asleep and some tell me it simply wakes up their baby. I don’t believe there is any research on the answer to your question about the stretch effectiveness relative to whether the baby is awake or asleep. I do know that there is no research in general on which stretch is the best stretch for Torticollis.
