Thanks for the video. We love our takeuchi machines. Only dislike is the damn def/dpf related issues. But I Blame the government and environmental alarmism on those issues, since all our trucks/equipment with def have issues.
One thing though, The mountain button is “high elevation mode” it doesn’t change the track hydraulics. If you’re operating above 6,000ft above sea level, click it. Otherwise forget it. I only know because I was always curious what that damn button did. Eventually I decided to study the manual since our company has so many takeuchi machines now.

Do you recommend this brand machine for a person starting in excavation ? If so what size ?

I think Takeuchi builds a very well built and reliable machine, so I would say I recommend the brand. They are a little heavier duty than pretty much everything else I've been around. The size really depends on what you are planning on doing with it. Keep in mind that this TB290 is too big to safely move with a pickup, so you don't want to go above a TB260 if you want to move it with a 3/4 or 1 ton truck. The TB290 worked pretty well for the job I needed it for, but the 8-9 ton class to me feels like an odd in between size. It's not quite small enough to fit in places that most people would use a mini for, yet it's too small to do general excavation with. Unless you have a niche for this size excavator, I would probably either go one size smaller so I could move it easily, or go into the 13-14 ton zero tail swing class so I could do more general excavating.

I was able to haul an 8 ton mini ex on my shortbed single wheel, but it was a little heavy. If you want a machine this size, I recommend getting a dually if you plan to move it.
