S.S. Badger Arrival and Docking in Ludington
In this video, we see the S.S. Badger steam into port in Ludington, MI after its trip across Lake Michigan from Manitowoc, WI on September 3rd, 2022. It is claimed that the Badger is the only remaining steam powered passenger ferry of her kind still operating today in the country. She is also part of U.S. 10 and is a historic landmark in both Michigan and Wisconsin. Originally built in the 1950's, the Badger was originally designed to transport rail cars. Passenger service was not offered until the early 1990's when the ship was resurrected after being out of service for some time. The Badger sounds her horn as she enters the channel into the Pere Marquette River and then proceeds to do a 180 degree turn so that she can back into the dock. This maneuver takes a skilled captain to execute, as the vessel has no bow thrusters; the anchor is dropped to allow the ship to pivot 180 degrees. Once docked, the ship sounds its horn again and many people and vehicles make their way off the ship. As you can see, vehicles ranging from cars, trucks, busses, and even silage wagons make the journey across Lake Michigan on the Badger.

      No specific pattern. If one has an automatic activator for foggy operations...they will use that one. A single long blast at timed intervals while underway. BTW...the long and a short whistle at the end indicates docking completed....tie it up.

    There is supposed to be fluid in the rear tires and there might be additional weights available that hang on the rear axle. Also that engine is the same as in a 190XT gas tractor not a D19. The G was IMO the best combine of its day. The maintenance on this combine looks horrid and is why you are having trouble like you have. Combines don't like to be cobbled together like that one has. I hope you never need to do any major work on that 4400 because you will learn to hate that combine. I've worked on many makes of old combines and the 3300 thru 7700 are about as hard to work on as it gets and the gleaner without question is the easiest. Go find a nice M2 and you won't be sorry, trust me.

    The Gleaners always struck me as a very well-built and decently-engineered combine, but I guess they weren't always designed with long-term wear and serviceability in mind. Cool to see that there are still a lot of them out there being used, though. Have to love the farmer repairs done to it too...I'm particularly a fan of the I-beams welded to the rear axle. lol.

    • @SilverGleaner
      @SilverGleaner 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      All variable speeds on combines operate about the same. My R52 is similar with the variable speed corn head drive. If you are not using loc-tite and are making the pins rather than buying the right ones and you don't replace the bushings then you can expect trouble. It's like that with Deere, White, Case etc etc. Back in the G days Gleaner was number 1 in sales in the United States. There is a reason they were number 1. We've been running Gleaners since 1976. Dad ran 300 acres every year wit his E Gleaner from 1976 to 1997. The worst thing for a combine than to have some cobble artist who doesn't know what he is doing be the one doing all the repairs on it.

    • @brandonsequipmentvideos6177
      @brandonsequipmentvideos6177 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It is neat how simple many parts of a Gleaner combine are, but it’s such a pain to get parts for a G anymore. The reality is, this combine did a lot of work in its day, and it deserves recognition for it, but I was working on it more than I was working with it. The new owner is happy to have it and plans to fix the issues and keep using it!

    Thanks for the video. We love our takeuchi machines. Only dislike is the damn def/dpf related issues. But I Blame the government and environmental alarmism on those issues, since all our trucks/equipment with def have issues. One thing though, The mountain button is “high elevation mode” it doesn’t change the track hydraulics. If you’re operating above 6,000ft above sea level, click it. Otherwise forget it. I only know because I was always curious what that damn button did. Eventually I decided to study the manual since our company has so many takeuchi machines now.

    The forestry head is not designed to mulch trees over 10" that's why its bogging. Materials are over capacity. If they do this every day they will be lucky to get 1200 hrs out of the tractor. The pump in the head is an expensive repair also. Not to mention the teeth. I have to replace teeth about every 300 or so hours of mulching and they are expensive.

    • @brandonsequipmentvideos6177
      @brandonsequipmentvideos6177 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      David Pillet I think the Kubota is an overall pretty good machine for mulching. The only things are that the cab door doesn't seal up very well, the quick attach lines can get snagged if you're not careful, and the track kept falling off on one side for some reason (I think it was just this particular one). I didn't have any problems with the hydraulics overheating. I made sure to blow out the radiator every so often though. To be honest, I would prefer a Takeuchi TL12 for mulching.

    • @davidpillet7505
      @davidpillet7505 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I appreciate the reply. I'm still trying to decide. Any of these machines need to be cleaned up on a regular basis, especially where I am, with all the pine needles. I'm leaning towards the newer ASV 120's now.

    • @dvosberg39
      @dvosberg39 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      David Pillet- I have 12+ years of experience and seat time with Bobcat/ASV/CAT/ TAK and others. Apart from the (6 or so) manufacturing issues ASV had last year, they are very good machines. I’ve seen so many videos on social media; and, most negative comments on ASV are clearly from individuals who don’t know the product very well or don’t buy from a good dealer. You may want to look into the ASV 75HD or ASV 120D with the added door option if you don’t mulch full time, too. That could save some cash. Undercarriage maintenance has cost us way less on the ASV over the other machines. Plus, we don’t throw tracks on the ASV. That’s my two cents.

    Do you recommend this brand machine for a person starting in excavation ? If so what size ?

    • @brandonsequipmentvideos6177
      @brandonsequipmentvideos6177 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think Takeuchi builds a very well built and reliable machine, so I would say I recommend the brand. They are a little heavier duty than pretty much everything else I've been around. The size really depends on what you are planning on doing with it. Keep in mind that this TB290 is too big to safely move with a pickup, so you don't want to go above a TB260 if you want to move it with a 3/4 or 1 ton truck. The TB290 worked pretty well for the job I needed it for, but the 8-9 ton class to me feels like an odd in between size. It's not quite small enough to fit in places that most people would use a mini for, yet it's too small to do general excavation with. Unless you have a niche for this size excavator, I would probably either go one size smaller so I could move it easily, or go into the 13-14 ton zero tail swing class so I could do more general excavating.

Although paint chipping and paint wearing where you drag your feet is somewhat unsurprising. I am surprised you say after having a bench and going to a console that you wouldnt go back. • @jaredanthony8070
      @jaredanthony8070 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@brandonsequipmentvideos6177 you drag your foot on it worse? If you dont drag your foot it wont wear the paint. Also corners are the hardest place to get a high build up of paint as well as clear coat. Gm dips their vehicles rather than sprays them which actually leaves more paint thickness even. And if you knew you were going to take it offroad all the time (which a ton more than you expect never touch dirt) why did you get black? The color that shows the most scratches and dust compared to the others. Oh and the valance is plastic as it's been since 1999. If you hit something with a plastic valance it will damage it. In the book it tells you that there are push pins that you can remove if you are offloading and that way you will have higher clearance and be less likely to scrape or damage your valance. It's not necessarily fragile when a 6-7,000 pound truck pushed it into a stationary object. Plastic headlights have been around since the 90s on trucks and those are fragile if you hit things. Your valance tore like it did because its flexible rather than splitting apart into several pieces or shattering.

The step being out different may help avoid dragging your feet but if you get in and out without dragging your feet and without resting your foot there it wont happen. Sometimes on used cars you'll see a complete bare edge for the distance you can rub your foot that has surface rust on it because they drug their feet. They could have designed a lip protector that is a wear plate to prevent it all.

    I could listen to that all day. Can only imagine what it would sound like at a plow day.
