- The Lakers struggled in the early 1990s. It was not until 1996 when the team traded for the draft rights to Kobe Bryant and signed star center Shaquille O'Neal that the Lakers returned to dominance during the early 2000s.
The superstar duo of Bryant and O'Neal, along with coach Phil Jackson, led the Lakers to 3 consecutive championships between 2000 to 2002, securing the "three-peat."

I disagree that they would have swept. I believe shaq would have been motivated from the rockets series to not get swept . Shaq is the only player he doesn't have a winning playoff series against. They both have 1 series win a piece. Rodman antics would not have worked as well as it did against Malone. I do believe Jordan still would have won so don't get that twisted I just don't think it would be a sweep.
