@@Mariaaeh27 People here like to comment everything, france is not like that country that you could imagine years ago people here are just so terrible and negative, complaining about everything and stuff if you wanna study in France check private high schools, it's a bit better already
Mostly because in France we have a lot of english/american/whatever videos about French culture or Americans being in France in our "recommended" section
For people who are wondering and wants to learn a bit more about school life in France, each public school are different. Things like rules such as showing your id or the way the "cantine" works or the kind of food that is available can differ quite a lot (the sound between each class is also different for each school). In some school students are freer and therefore is some other you can have more restriction. The type of event and class available in high school can change as well. For example in my high school we could have additional classes during the vacation if we wanted to which is very rare in public school, also we were forced to have an internship during our first year of high school and had an oral presentation (while all of my friends who were from different high school, were already on vacation). Events like the carnival, the day of the music, chic day, prom night depends on the school (high school & junior high school). The speciality classes available are also diverse: some can have languages like Chinese or Russian, others might have special classes for elite athletes (mine was specialized in handball but there were also other sports) or speciality like cinema, theatre, performing art, fine arts ...
N S Thank you so much! I’m going to pin this so it goes to the top of the comments. It’s very informative and will be a good resource to those watching. I appreciate you taking the time to write all of that 🙌🏼
@@MaxReisinger You're welcome! I always love to learn those type of stuff on different countries so I thought maybe other people would be interested to learn this on mine! ☺Hope you have a great time in France with your family!
Also there's a huge difference between Private (catholic) and Public schools. Basically, first is when you pay for education, usually better, second you do not pay but have more chances to get not-so-cool facilities and teachers with random competence.
Ba je pense que dans le sud elles sont comme ça, je ne sais pas dans quelle région tu es mais dans ma ville toutes les écoles/collèges/lycées ont cette sonnerie, peut être que ça fonctionne par académie, peut être que cette sonnerie est utilisée dans les lieux scolaires des académies de Nice (dans laquelle je suis) et de Aix/Marseille (dans laquelle il est) après c'est juste une théorie... 9:12 Don't worry, in France pushing someone is very "popular" because it's taken for "a joke". Sometimes this is not the case, but otherwise it is very common. Sorry, i used Google Translate. ;-;
@@luna3226 Noooooooooooo it is not. Not sure if this is an American thing but if fail in any way instead on being supportive everyone tears you down. It's very hard for me to listen and pay attention but everyone blames me for not being responsible enough to listen. (Don't get me started on English it is literally the language we are born speaking it is very unnecessary imo) Some classes you shouldn't even be in but bad test scores basically screw you over. standardized test make kids very anxious I slept in class most days because I was to nervous to go to sleep. Also personally I think most teachers get off by creatively locking kids down.
In my old high school (I'm in college now) we didn't have hand recognition to eat lunch, we had a card where you could put money on it and the tray also dropped lmao and I loved how you sounded so happy to only have two hours of class on Wednesdays, because I know wednesdays are just like "regular" school days in the US, but most schools in France only have morning classes on wednesdays Also, easy to recognized that you were in the south of France since the second foreign language was Italian, whereas in other parts of France it's mostly going to be Spanish or German (in Alsace, some schools only teach German as their second language, sometimes there's no choice) But there are various options: for instance, in my high school, we could learn chinese as a third language, in others, there would be Italian, Japanese, etc. It's very common to see Latin as an option, too. You can usually choose Arts as an option, even sometimes as a "speciality" if you're in the L stream (filière Littéraire), if your school has it, of course. Now, specialities are related to your stream. I know S Students (Science) can choose reinforced math, informatics, reinforced chem or science. I don't much about the ES stream (Social Economics), but in L (the stream I was in), we could choose to study Arts, Drama, History of Arts, and a reinforced language (LVA, which stands for langue vivante approfondie). In my school, English was the only available option, but it's not rare to see this speciality in spanish, and I'm sure it exists in German and Italian, as well, just not in schools around me. Also, in your Terminale (so that'd be 12th grade, or Senior Year), in L, you could choose Law as a speciality, but it is only available in your senior year. But all the things I just said about the streams are no longer valid because of the new baccalaureate, but still, I think the options and things about the languages remain? I haven't really followed this reform because it was voted when I was in Terminale aha Hope you enjoy your stay in France!
Andrea Ferrero yes but you don’t have a lot of holidays right ? In France we have : - Toussaint’s holidays ( 2 weeks ) - Christmas holidays (2weeks) - February holidays ( 2 weeks ) - Easter holidays ( 2 weeks ) - summer holidays ( 2 months ) And we have a lot of special days on which we don’t work so that’s why foreigners think we don’t work a lot 😂
france “we have an hour break between each class 😊” america “you get 5 minutes to run from one side of the building to the other before the bell rings”
Actually even in France you just have a couple of minutes to go from one classroom to another. What happened is he had a free period and in senior high (from the age of 15) you're allowed to leave the school premises.
@Poppy Balfe nice in Australia it's 2 minutes and my school is spread out alot so you could go from a 3 level building rectangle back of it walk 200m to get out then another 200m to get to the entrance of the next building 4 levels laters and right or left in 2 minutes with a 1200 other student to navigate through.

An hour break between classes!! Damn.. that lunch looks so much better than school lunch here
Kÿłä Williams no it’s because sometimes when they do the schedules, they are some holes, because teachers can’t attempt 2 classes at the same time yk.. (because of the beginning of the year you have a class, and you’ll have the same classmates in every subjects not like in america, like if you have ur bff in your class, you’ll be together the whole year in every subjects) of course they aren’t an hour of break between classes usually, you barely have 5 minutes😂
not all the schools got this... so lucky. elementary gets really weird schedule where it’s both recess and lunch at the same time. 2 hours of lunch/recess and you line up at préau to go into the cantine and then our food mostly sucked.

Also there's a huge difference between Private (catholic) and Public schools. Basically, first is when you pay for education, usually better, second you do not pay but have more chances to get not-so-cool facilities and teachers with random competence.

In my old high school (I'm in college now) we didn't have hand recognition to eat lunch, we had a card where you could put money on it and the tray also dropped lmao
and I loved how you sounded so happy to only have two hours of class on Wednesdays, because I know wednesdays are just like "regular" school days in the US, but most schools in France only have morning classes on wednesdays
Also, easy to recognized that you were in the south of France since the second foreign language was Italian, whereas in other parts of France it's mostly going to be Spanish or German (in Alsace, some schools only teach German as their second language, sometimes there's no choice)
But there are various options: for instance, in my high school, we could learn chinese as a third language, in others, there would be Italian, Japanese, etc.
I haven't really followed this reform because it was voted when I was in Terminale aha
Hope you enjoy your stay in France!
