    I prefer the Maxxis Dissector to the Recon for the front tire. It rolls great while still providing the cornering control the Ardent does not have.

    My favourite tyre for versatility and all round use is the Hans dampf addix speed grip in the Apex casing. Will post a longer term review of the Rekons in the coming weeks. In the meantime I'd be interested to here what you're all riding and why?

    Use tires with the most grip in the front. All of your combinations have the softer compound tire in the rear

    • @trickyrickymtb5622
      @trickyrickymtb5622  ปีที่แล้ว

      No they don't, all my rears are dual compound, with my fronts being Maxxterra. Only where I'm using schwalbe do I Sometimes use the same compound front and rear, and this never when I'm riding tech.

  • @ShaunCulliss

    Good review. Have you given the Maxxis Aggressor or Minion SS a go on the rear? They have been my favourite rear tyres on my eeeb with a MM or DHR on the front.

      Haven't tried either of those, but currently running the Rock Razer / Hans Dampf on my MTB and Rekon / DHF on my Emtb. I tend not to ride in muddy conditions, so kinda feel like I've landed on two combinations that work for me

    I do not think Maxxis makes the Rekon 2.6" in that compound any more.
    I used for my (mainly) dry hardpack summer riding a 3.0" wide Nobby Nic in snakeskin/speedgrip at the rear. Speed was better that my previously used DHF 2.8 EXO MaxxTerra. Grip was not so good, esp. wet roots were terrible. However, as you noticed the number of knobs is the same between different widths, at 3.0 width the effect was ever bigger. So, not very reliable when cornering leaned over, but the tyre cleared mud very well.

    @E.T_rode_bikes_As_well 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Hey, how did the Rekons work out for you?
    Planing to run rekon 2.6 in the front, 2.35 ardent race in the back on my 120mm hardtail. 😀

    • @trickyrickymtb5622
      @trickyrickymtb5622  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I liked the Rekon but felt like I couldn't fully trust it when really leaning hard. It never actually let go on me though, so I cant really say I dont recommend it. I prefer it as a rear tyre though.

  • @SoCalkiteflier

    I had a similar experience with the ardent on the rear, now Its a great tire but yea something to be aware of... running rekon on my other bike its great.

    Longer term review of Ardent on rear available ? What is your assessment? I expect that others are also interested. Verbal response would be fine.

    • @trickyrickymtb5622
      @trickyrickymtb5622  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think the Ardent it fine as a rear tyre, it rolls fast, wears well and has decent traction on the climbs, but there are better rears in the Maxxis lineup. IMO forecaster & Reckon are better options.

      @@mddobbs I use the Rekon 3C Maxx terra on my emtb, very grippy and works well when under power. I'd go maxx speed or dual compound on a trail bike unless you were doing more gravity focused stuff in which case stick with maxx terra , or even a more aggressive tyre like the aggressor. I do like the Rekon as a rear tho.

    The Hans Dampf is a rear tyre and the nobby Nic a front. I would suggest you use it that way and the Nobby Nic rolls great

    • @trickyrickymtb5622
      @trickyrickymtb5622  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I disagree, the previous generations maybe, but the current versions do not work well that way. The HD has a more aggressive tread pattern with more consistent cornering. The NN is a decent trail tyre but does not perform well when the terrain get steeper. Schwalbe deliberately designed the new HD as an enduro tyre and you can tell in the way it rides.

      @@trickyrickymtb5622I'm with you on this one as well, based on the feedback in this video and me wanting to run wider 2.6 tires would a HD front and rear work better for more consistent cornering grip maybe a soft up front and an addix speedgrip up front?

    • @trickyrickymtb5622
      @trickyrickymtb5622  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@tonybailey89 yes that would work well and I would run it. The HD even in the soft compound doesn't rail like something like DHF but it feels more predictable in the transitions.

    • @lee.j7077
      @lee.j7077 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      trickyricky MTB there a bit softer than some other tyres so wear a little quicker but not overly fast and there not prone to punctures,I think they make a good front and rear Tyre, there’s no big channel down the sides so no dead zone when cornering

  • @dargo6998
    @dargo6998 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    I'm just the opposite. I do not like the Hans Dampf on the front at all. I have laid into a corner with a ardent. But the Hans kicks out on me. I think my favorite setup could be ground control front fast trak rear.

    maxxis assegai over magic mary anytime anyplace....its a bit slow rolling but its all forgiven u u forget about it when u go down and u just trust in it. i think its the best tire from maxxis.....
