How to Install a Pond Net to keep out animals - easy, fast and looks great

  • How I installed a pond net over a 20' by 15' Koi pond to prevent birds and other animals of prey, as well as leaves and other debris from entering the pond. One person can do this alone. It took one afternoon after I had gathered the parts. You can modify the parts you need based on the size of your pond. The end result is good looking and most importantly, has kept raccoons, heron, possums, and other prey-seeking animals out of the pond.
    Parts I used:
    20' by 30' pond net (bought online for about $60
    6 pieces of 2' long rebar as anchors (from big box home store)
    6' of 1-inch PVC pipe, cut into six 12" sections
    50 foot, UV resistant rope
    3 fiberglass tent poles, 18' long (bought online for $16 each)
    Because the poles in my case are about three foot longer than distance across the pond, it provides for the height I desired. The edges of the net are stretched down and secured with rocks that I had lining the edge of the pond. If you don't have rocks, you can anchor the net with the plastic stakes that are typically included with the net when you buy it.

    This is an absolutely brilliant idea, non obtrusive & allowing space for plants to grow & a completely natural appearence to the pond surface, thankyou so much for sharing your expertise, it will keep our wildlife safe from drowning,🐍🐁🐇 😁👍⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐♥️😁

    Awesome video. Curious how you have the pond lily together in a circle. How did you get that done? Do you mine sharing a video on that.

      Hello Allen, I used a piece of sprinkler tubing and PVC connectors to glue the ends together. The air inside the tubes keeps it floating. I tied a piece of rope to the tube and attached it to an edge rock to keep it from floating towards the skimmer. The koi do pick at the roots a bit, but I have a nice supply available to replace the floating plants once or twice a year.

    Hi, my pond is a circle, 12' wide. Im assuming id only need 2 poles and criss cross them right? How long would I need and how big of a net? It would mean the world to me if you helped me with this. Ty

      I would use a rope or string to measure. Anchor one end where you would place a pole, pull it across to where the other end of the pole would be, then using a long stick or pole, raise the center of the rope to the height that you would like the net to be. Then measure how much rope it took end-to-end to reach that height and length. You would need two poles as close to that length as they sell. I’m guessing that would be about 15-16 feet. While installing them in the PVC as I did in the video, I would tie or wire them together where they cross to keep them in place. The net should be at least 3 feet longer than the poles so that you can anchor the edges under rocks or use the anchor pegs that come with some nets you find online. So probably a 20x20 foot net.

      The price appears to have increased since my post 2 years ago, now showing at about $24. I got them from Amazon here: www.amazon.com/Replacement-Fibreglass-Camping-Repairs-Sections/dp/B00MA54JNC/ref=sr_1_1?dchild=1&keywords=Surepromise+Replacement+Fibreglass+Pole+Kit+Camping+Tent+Awning+Repairs+5.5m+x+9.5mm+11+Sections&qid=1612818171&sr=8-1

      I find the "clear" netting is too reflective and noticeable for my location.

    BLACK OR WHITE NETTING BEST ???

    • @GregBito
      @GregBito  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Armand. Black netting is easier to see through. In my testing, a white net reflected any light/sun and made it harder to see the pond and fish, you end up seeing just the net. So, go for the black net.
