Great project and excellent engineering! I'm doing something very similar today on my pond - thank you for the ideas! I'm in the US so our materials are a little different but I'm using your idea of metal pipe inside the conduit.
Thanks, 🙂 Mine have worked well over the summer, and are now hung up on hooks on the side of the garden cabin ready for next year. I'm using 35mm multiwall Polycarbonate covers at night, now our nights are drawing in (dark at 19:00) and temperatures are dipping down to 4C at night.
Firstly your pond looks great.! copied your method today I did two frame sections but could do with a diagonal brace but then there’s more viewing obstruction plus half of the frame could have aluminium inners “just” to lighten it up a little it’s still a very durable, neat method I lost a stunning koi to a heron strangely when we had the beast from the east so you never know when they will strike
Thanks mate 🙂 Yeah, I thought about aluminium pipe too for the centres, but the galv conduit was just way cheaper and easier to get hold of. They can be a bit wobbley on the corners but mine have held up well so far. Plus it's heavy enough that a heron isn't going to be able to move it easily...👍
Great job . Out of interest do you think it is heavy enough so as not to be affected by the wind ? I have a smaller raised pond and unlike your pond which is under cover , I have no where to anchor down

10 x 10 pond and Iam going to give it a go, large tree over pond and lots of leaves in the
fall.
thats quite wide but should be ok 🙂
No one likes nets over the pond, but they solve a lot of problems...

Looking good I’ve had mine up for a year exactly the same and they have lasted 👍🏻
Thanks, good to know 😀
Good job there Dave 👍.
Thanks, 😀

with 20mm galvanised steel conduit inside the 25mm PVC conduit.
The frame is pretty heavy and certainly won't blow away. 👍
