Unboxing and first shine of TLB Mallorca Douglas Wingtip Adelaide in Old England Marron Medio

  • TLB is really packing a lot of goodness into their shoes for a surprisingly low price. I was already impressed with their Artista line and half expected the standard line to be a bit underwhelming...I couldn't be more wrong.
    The Douglas is an intriguing design with Adelaide broguing around the eyelets but instead of a typical cap toe it features a wingtip toe design minus the medallion. The Old England Marron Medio is a light to mid brown hand painted finish. Really nice depth to the color. The last shape is a rounded soft almond shape with great balance. Not too blunt and not too pointed...perfect. The leather looks and feels great. Goodyear welted with a closed channel sole. While not as narrow as the Artista line it still has a pretty narrow beveled waist and closely cut heel. Really sleek! Thats a whole lotta shoe for about 302 euros or $330 us.
    Note: I sized down half from my normal UK size and they fit perfectly.
    For reference I took the same size in TLB as I do in Carlos Santos, J. Fitzpatrick and my own brand Michael Darren Shoes. It is half size down from Carmina (Rain and Simpson) and Meermin (Hiro and Elton). Others however have found they fit true to size. If you tend to run in-between sizes like me size down, if your more consistent then your normal UK size should work which is 1 less than your US size.
    Feel free to ask any questions, I'm always open to some good shoe discussion.
    The shoes can be seen here:
    www.tlbmallorc...
    I shined them up using Pure Polish Products which are all natural and have found deliver similar results to Saphir. Really excellent and they smell like oranges:

    The handy water dispenser is from my friends at ShoeCareShop:

    Hi Michael, my apologies for being among the last to congratulate you on the purchase of the TLB wingtips. Your comments are spot in regards to the almond toe, I have been looking at this last for the past few days and lucked out finding this video. Have been purchasing mostly Yanko 915's lately due to the look of the last/shoe, perfect fit plus the bang for the buck is a nice bonus. At this point looking to branch out and test the waters of Carlos Santos and TLB. your comments on the sizing experience was a very nice touch for those of us in the dark when it comes to sizing different brands. Going to look up the artista adelaides video next. Thank you for making this video.

      Thanks and glad you liked it. I think many people will find these are true to size but for me I end up sizing down half in nearly all UK sized brands. JustinFitzpatrick, Carlos Santos, TLB, Carmina, Fugashin, and even my own brand Michael Darren Shoes. I am consistently 8.5 US in Allen Edmonds and UK 7.5 in Meermin but almost every other brand I have ever tried I need to go to 7. I may just be an odd one. I don't have much experience with Yanko but I suspect you will take the same size as you do with them. You should check with TLB first and perhaps they can advise you better. Good luck with your shoe adventures my friend.

    Hello again, I have just discovered your channel and I am catching up. Would you be so kind as to recommend a couple of high-quality conditioners for shoes? I am beginning to learn how to take care of my shoes and I want to avoid costly mistakes. Thank you very much. Regards. Claudio.

    • @mbshoedoc
      @mbshoedoc  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      My top general use conditioner is bick 4. It's cheap, it works great and it doesn't darken the leather. I also love Saphir Renovateur. Saphir is a better conditioning lotion but is considerably more expensive and I have seen it strip some of the finish off shoes before. If you wanted to just get one and done I would say get the bick 4. I also like Saphir mirrorgloss in neutral for shining the toes. I use that on everything.

      @@mbshoedoc thanks for the fast answer. Can you please tell me if the ball of the foot (widest part of the shoe) is on the same place on both measured from the heel?
      I mean, if you put the soles together on the heel, is the pinky toe hump at both at the same spot/distance from the heel?

    First time I see Pure Polish being used on video. How do you like their products? The owner has a tutorial in which he mentions a shine process called “lensing” but I haven’t looked into it.

    • @mbshoedoc
      @mbshoedoc  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I've been using pure polish interchangeably with Saphir. Sometimes even mixed them. The cleaner conditioner can strip old polish well but can strip patina too if not careful...Saphir renovateur seems a tad gentler on cleaning. The high shine wax is comparable to mirror gloss. I think for creams Saphir wins with the most pigment and nicest texture. The pure polish doesn't feel as good in the hands...has a gritty feel perhaps due to the orange oil however it works amazingly well. So I think it's a great alternative especially if you value all natural products. The smell is great 👍.

    How’d you compare these to Carmina? Look very similar

    • @mbshoedoc
      @mbshoedoc  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Excellent question. I'm having this discussion on a few FB groups right now. I think Carminas leather is a tad nicer but TLB has a narrower waist and heel. Carmina has more last options and shell cordovan, TLB has museum calf and hand dyed patina options like this pair. Finish work is similar but TLB costs a fair amount less. So bang for buck TLB would be the winner. Carmina is still an amazing brand and worth the price but TLB offers a better value I feel. Hope that helps but I wouldn't hesitate to recommend either brand.

      @@GaZzBenKo Thanks man. It's tough. While I'm polishing I am concentrating on what I'm doing and not the camera so sometimes I don't realize I've drifted until I go to edit the film later. Then sadly it's too late...can't un-shine them to re film shining them. I will improve. I'm going to zoom out more when filming then zoom in on editing perhaps 👍
